Chapter 98: The Real Schicksal
[After the elevator starts, Kiana's mind is still in a state of confusion about everything that has happened. But she soon remembers that magic spell. She can't believe it's actually real.
The two arrive at the control room. Cecilia tells Kiana to stay put while she goes to open the path to the upper floors. Kiana only thinks about staying with Cecilia, no matter how long she has to wait.
After Cecilia leaves, Kiana takes out the diary again. She thinks happily, since the magic spell is so effective, what wish should she make next?
On a whim, Kiana becomes curious about what happened to the diary's owner next. She opens the control room's computer, wanting to investigate some information, and unexpectedly finds many cruel experiment files. Living human lives are treated like cold numbers.
"{Additionally, test subject No. 51 has shown good adaptability and has been transferred to a safe house for observation. Based on the observation results, she will be arranged to go to other laboratories for in-depth experiments.}"
"{A forged death notice has been issued to the family of test subject No. 51. The family currently has no suspicions. Maintain surveillance on them. If necessary, forceful measures can be taken.}"]
"Are you crazy?!"
The script Shigure Kira saw didn't have this scene. It only said that Kiana saw what Schicksal had done in the past on the computer. Even the first movie didn't dare to explicitly write what the Tower of Babylon had done.
But now, what Yaqing wrote was treating human life as worthless, burning the bodies of the dead on the spot to cover up the crime, forging death certificates, and taking forceful measures against the families if discovered.
This could no longer be considered just slinging mud at Schicksal; it was purely blackening their name to the core.
"I'm not crazy," Yaqing's voice was flat as he glanced at the agitated Shigure Kira. "Shigure Kira, how can you be sure that Schicksal's researchers in the past didn't do these things?"
"What?!"
"I actually didn't want to break your beautiful illusion of Schicksal, but the facts are the facts."
Yaqing explained in a cold tone.
"When I first took over the research direction of Schicksal four years ago, I discovered these disgusting parasites. I was very angry, but killing them was not enough to atone for their sins. So I chose to stuff them into oil drums and sink them alive in the sea."
For a moment, the people in the first two rows of the screening hall stopped chatting.
"Aren't you afraid?"
"Afraid of what? Uncle, you did nothing wrong!" Kiana was the first to support Yaqing, hugging his neck from behind.
"Any parent with a child would not approve of what those researchers did," Mei also spoke up in support.
"Grandpa... didn't he do anything about it?" Theresa asked.
"The subsidiary industries of the Schicksal organization are spread all over the world. It's impossible for the Overseer to know every single one clearly. Besides, the Overseer has already arranged..." Yaqing trailed off, closing his mouth.
"Arranged what?" Theresa looked at him curiously.
Not just Theresa, but Shigure Kira and the others also looked at Yaqing curiously. As mid-level employees at Schicksal HQ, they were very curious about the decisions made in some of the upper-level meetings.
But to their surprise, Yaqing changed his expression and said with a playful smile, "I'm not telling you."
"So angry! I want to punch him to death!" Theresa clenched her fists, the veins on her fair skin clearly visible.
[Kiana, looking at the experiment files on the computer, calls Cecilia over in both shock and anger.
Cecilia had no idea about the private actions of the Tower of Babylon, but she quickly realizes that the Second Herrscher's coming to the Babylon Lab was probably not just for the Honkai energy reactor.
"Cecilia, haven't you dealt with the Second Herrscher yet?" Otto's communication suddenly connects to Cecilia.
"Overseer Otto?!"
"You haven't forgotten you're fighting a Herrscher, have you?" Otto's tone is light. "The Honkai energy in the Babylon Lab will make her stronger. The longer you drag it out, the lower your chances of winning."
"Of course I remember."
"There's no time to waste with you now, Cecilia. I never fight a battle I'm not sure of winning. You'd better have a way to eliminate the Herrscher," Otto's tone is still light and playful, but it carries a hint of warning.
"If even you can't kill her, I will launch a Honkai fission bomb and blow up the entire laboratory along with the Herrscher."
"What..."
"If you don't want me to do that, then bring me some good news."
"Yes..."
Otto's communication ends.
Kiana is shocked that Otto would actually launch a missile to destroy this laboratory.
Cecilia comforts Kiana, saying that as long as they speed up, she has her own plan to reach the Second Herrscher. But now she needs Kiana to do her a small favor.
"Could you please take the elevator from before and go to the underground power room to turn off the power switch there? That way I can open the path to the upper floors."]
North America, Anti-Entropy HQ.
"Cecilia is deliberately sending Kiana away. So she herself is not very confident she can win against the Second Herrscher," Einstein's coffee is never far from her hand.

[On the way to the underground power room, Kiana suddenly remembers the voice from her dream saying that during the battle with the Second Herrscher, Schicksal had launched missiles at them out of fear of Cecilia's failure. And the situation she is facing now is exactly the same.
"How could it be... could it be that Mom, she... no! I will absolutely not let this happen!"
Kiana searches everywhere in the underground power room for the location of the power switch. Time ticks by. She finds a piece of paper from the diary, but there is no power switch around at all.
"Right! The diary... I wonder if there will be a clue about the power switch in this diary entry?"
In her desperation, Kiana places her hopes on a diary page she just found in the power room. But according to the content on the diary page, this place is not a power room at all, but a safe house.
"Mom clearly said this was the power room. She wouldn't be lying to me... wait, no way..." Kiana thinks of a possibility.]
"As expected. There's no power room at all. Cecilia deliberately tricked Kiana into going to the safe house to protect her."
"What an admirable lady."
