Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: It's Not the People Who Are Corrupt, but the Military

[Meanwhile, Sirin, who had only brought back the pseudo-Herrscher of Flame, dismissed it as a useless thing. The puppets she had created were almost completely wiped out, but Sirin's goal had been achieved. Destroying human cities had allowed her to gather enough power.

*"First—"*

*"—let's start with this continent!"*

Several towering purple pillars of light rose from Babylon Tower. At Schicksal, Overseer Otto immediately noticed the intense Honkai energy reaction in Siberia, which was expanding outwards at a rate of 200km per hour.

*"Is she planning to destroy all of Siberia in one go?"*

Overseer Otto realized that time was running out. He immediately ordered all troops to be notified. It was time to meet the Second Herrscher.]

"Is it finally time for the decisive battle?!" Kevin said excitedly.

It had been over an hour since the movie started, but the plot was so tight, with no filler, that it didn't feel like much time had passed at all.

"It looks like Overseer Otto is about to make his move," Su said. Although he understood Otto's goal, he didn't know in what capacity he would join the battle.

[Unfortunately, the movie's plot did not develop as they expected. The scene suddenly cut to one month earlier, at the B-17 military supply base in Siberia.

A young second lieutenant named Cocolia had caught Colonel Alexei for selling military supplies and stealing arms. Despite irrefutable evidence, the corrupt military high command instead confined Second Lieutenant Cocolia, while Colonel Alexei faced no consequences.

One month later, perhaps out of guilt, Colonel Alexei came to the confinement cell. He told the still-passionate young second lieutenant everything. It turned out that General Ivan, who was presiding over her court-martial, was the one who ordered the military supplies to be sold on the black market.

Cocolia couldn't stand the corruption within the military. She argued with Colonel Alexei; it was because of the country's corruption that the orphanage couldn't get enough subsidies.

*"Do you know how many orphans are starving right now, just like I was when I was a child?!"*

Faced with Cocolia's soul-searching question, Alexei had his own difficulties. He took out a pocket watch from his coat and looked at the photograph inside. He didn't want to do this either, but with his meager salary, he couldn't support his family, nor his soon-to-be-born daughter.

*"For me, to protect them, I will pay any price!"*

Just as Cocolia was lamenting that the once-upright colonel had also fallen, and that one could truly abandon their principles to achieve an important goal, the confinement cell suddenly collapsed. Cocolia hid behind a wall, watching the distant Honkai Beasts.

A weak cry for help pulled her back to reality. Alexei, buried under the rubble, was still thinking about his wife and daughter in his final moments, but he would never see his daughter born.

Cocolia found the car keys on Alexei's body, took his wife hostage, and escaped from Siberia.

*"The children at the orphanage are still waiting for me. No matter the cost, I must escape from here!"*

Ultimately, under the Great Eruption unleashed by Sirin, 500,000 Honkai Beasts rampaged across the Siberian plains, and only about a hundred people survived.]

"It's impossible to judge who was right and who was wrong."

The movie once again presented the audience with a difficult question.

Was Alexei, who wanted to protect his family, wrong?

Was Cocolia, who wanted to serve her country and protect the children of the orphanage, wrong?

If neither of them was wrong, then who was?

"They weren't the ones who were wrong. It was the corrupt military and the corrupt country that were wrong." The rational MEI settled the matter with this final verdict.

"Bronya..." Kiana called out cautiously. She hadn't expected her stinky old uncle to be so bold. He clearly knew that Bronya had never met her parents, yet he portrayed her father as a villain who sold military arms in the movie.

How did Kiana know? The signature drills in the hair of Alexei's wife were something anyone who knew Bronya would recognize in an instant.

"The niece must pay for the uncle's debts. If you want to hit me or yell at me, just do it. If this young lady even frowns, my name isn't Kaslana!" Kiana puffed out her chest, looking righteous and ready for martyrdom, but she squeezed her eyes shut in fear.

"Such spirit! Bronya, if you can't bring yourself to do it, I can do it for you!" Senti, sensing some fun, quickly came over.

"Ah, Class Rep, save me!" Kiana couldn't hold it together anymore. Others might not know, but she knew Senti all too well. Having practiced martial arts since she was a child, one punch from her could probably break Kiana's ribs.

Kiana hid behind Fu Hua, only daring to peek out with her cat-like head.

"Pfft." Bronya was amused by the two clowns and laughed.

Kiana and Senti, who had just been so lively, exchanged a look.

"Silly Kiana, Seele already told me about this," Bronya said with a smile.

"Mmph, Bro~nya, don't call me silly!" Kiana pounced on Bronya and started tickling her weak spots.

"Haha... let... let go of me... hahaha."

Watching the two fooling around again, Raiden Mei sighed and rubbed her forehead.

"Hah, they even wrote that bad woman Cocolia into the story?" Tesla was surprised.

"It's very fitting. Although Cocolia is very assertive in her decisions at the company, she is very gentle with the children at the orphanage," Joyce said in approval. "But I do wish she would stop opposing my decisions next time."

Joyce didn't know why, but every time they had a board meeting, whatever decision he made, Cocolia had only two words: no money.

Want to make a sequel to Arahato? No money!

Want to make a Homu movie? No money!

Want to produce special-effects merchandise? No money!

"Heh heh." Einstein's mouth twitched. If it weren't for Cocolia cutting off his funds, with Joyce's "do whatever comes to mind" attitude, the company would have gone bankrupt long ago.

Far away in Siberia, Cocolia sneezed.

Looking at the happy children, Cocolia's heart settled down.

"That's Mama Cocolia!" a child pointed at the large screen in the orphanage classroom.

"It really is Mama Cocolia!"

"Mama, Mama!"

Rozaliya looked reluctant but silently supported the child on her back, warning the one standing on the table to get down.

Seele was frantically trying to comfort a child who had been frightened by the Honkai Beasts.

The Olenyeva twins were acting like the kings of the kids. Though they were already 16, they were playing with the 7 and 8-year-olds.

Cocolia smiled as she watched the scene before her.

"I'm so cool! That's right, launch a fierce attack on humanity!" Sirin danced with excitement.

However, this 'Second Herrscher' was soon disciplined by Schicksal's strongest Valkyrie, who pulled her into an embrace and mercilessly kneaded her pretty face.

"Mama, don't... don't rub my face."

The would-be rescuer, Benares, was also stopped by the strongest Valkyrie, who held its head with one hand. Its little arms flailed about, but it couldn't touch its enemy at all.
