Chapter 12 - Chapters 12 : The heart that whispers

Aanya's POV

The lecture went on, but Aanya barely heard a word.

Her notebook lay open, but the pen in her hand hadn't moved. Her eyes occasionally drifted toward the back of the classroom, where he sat—relaxed, confident, laughing softly at something another boy whispered.

He was nothing like what she imagined.

There was mischief in his smirk, ease in his posture, and a kind of charm that made him stand out without even trying.

But all she could think about… was that moment.

That silence. That eye contact.

That strange pull inside her chest that still hadn't settled.

The bell rang. Meher jumped up.

"Canteen?" she grinned.

Aanya blinked. "I… I think I'll skip."

"What?" Meher frowned. "You okay?"

Aanya gave her a small smile. "Not feeling well. I think I'll head home early."

"You sure? You look a little pale. Want me to come?"

She shook her head. "No, I just need some air. I'll be fine."

Meher sighed. "Alright. Text me when you reach. And rest, okay?"

Aanya nodded and walked away, her footsteps slow. Heavy.

But it wasn't her body that was tired.

It was her heart. Confused. Awake. Searching.

She sat by the window of the metro, the city blurring past her.

Her thoughts refused to calm down.

Who was he?

That boy… Aarav.

Was he the one who brushed past her yesterday?

Was he the one her dreams had once whispered about?

But how could she know?

They didn't even speak.

They didn't smile.

Yet the look they shared… it felt like something only souls could understand.

She touched the spot near her shoulder—where he had accidentally brushed past her the day before. Her fingers trembled a little.

"It can't be just a coincidence," she whispered.

But she didn't want to rush to believe either.

Not again

Still… her heart was whispering things her mind couldn't explain.

That night, lying in her bed, she stared at the ceiling, sleepless.

She didn't dream.

But her last thought before drifting off was simple.

"If he's the one… the universe won't let him pass by again."
