Keifer's Pov
Jay hailed a cab and disappeared down the street. When I returned to my room, her bag was still hanging there, as if she had forgotten it. I carried her bag by hanging it on my shoulder and went down stairs.
"Kuya, where are you going?," Keigan asked.
"Jay left her bag here," I said, holding it up as if I'd just discovered a rare artifact. "And of course, I'm the lucky courier." I hurried down the garage, hoping the cab hadn't spirited her away yet.
Without thinking, I slid into one of the fastest cars and gunned the engine, following the trail of her cab like a detective who'd just watched too many movies.
"Hold on… this isn't the way to her house," I said, gripping the wheel tighter. Maybe the cabbie had a secret side gig as a tour guide.
I followed the cab slowly, maybe she'll notice me following her.
But still I couldn't help but be worried, I tugged my phone free from my pocket, the device buzzing faintly to life in my hand, and tried calling her, each second of the dial tone sounding louder than the last.
Calling MyFutureMrsWatson.
After the fourth ring, the cheerful monotone interrupted, "The person you're trying to reach is not available." I swear, one day I'll strangle that voice. If robots can even be strangled.
I redialed, stubborn as ever, but the voice returned: "The person you're trying to reach has their phone switched off." At this point, I was beginning to feel like the robot was the only one actually answering my calls.
Switched off? Seriously?!
It took over thirty minutes for the cab to finally stop. I kept my distance, parking a little farther off so she wouldn't catch a glimpse of me. Stepping out of the cab, she started patting her pockets, her eyes widening in realization.
I was about to get out when he appeared—Clyde, handing her the cab fare. She looked puzzled, whispered a grateful "Thank God", and jealousy hit me like a punch.
Clyde finished paying and reached out his hand. She hesitated for a moment… then took it. Jealousy hit me harder than I expected.
Once the cab disappeared down the street, Clyde grinned at Jay and casually made his way to a bench. My jaw tightened without me even realizing it.
The car rolled forward, and I approached the entrance cautiously. Then I saw it: "Welcome to West Wood Park!" Of all places… Park, Clyde actually chose this one? Was he really gonna spill the truth?
-Flashback-
"Jay, you haven't ate lunch and now you don't wanna eat dinner?," I asked her.
She didn't reply, instead she went upstairs. I sighed...she usually never skips meal, what happened to her? This isn't her.
I sat on the couch, thinking what could be bothering her. Is it me..? Minutes passed, I was still trying to figure it out.
The phone vibrated in my hand. I glanced at the screen—Clyde?
📩From Idiot
[No more hiding. I am going to tell her the truth, no matter what.]
What truth?
📩To Idiot
[What truth?]
It didn't take him long to reply.
📩From Idiot
[The Engagement]
I didn't stop him.. She deserves to know the truth after all.
"What are you doing?," Jay asked me from behind. I hid my phone and turned to her.
"Nothing," I said. Its better if Clyde tells her about the engagement.
-End of Flashback-
After scanning the area for a few minutes, she brought her hand to her forehead with a sharp smack, muttering something under her breath. I let out a soft chuckle. I had no idea what she was thinking, but it was amusing.
I stepped onto the ground and approached a bench not too far from them, careful not to draw attention. "Keifer! You don't even have a disguise! What are you doing?!" I asked myself. I grabbed a newspaper from the bench I've been sitting on and covered my face with it as if disguising myself.
I saw Clyde snapping his fingers in front of Jay's face. She looked at him and smiled awkwardly, "Sorry, I was distracted," she apologized. Why apologizing, why not a smack on his face? why not a punch? why not a sarcastic reply?
"You're cute," Clyde said, patting her head. Clyde talking to her is okay, But patting her head and she's not even comfortable. Also she knows she's cute! Seriously? Stop being jealous, Keifer!
"What do you want to talk about again?," she asked him.
"Ahh that, take a seat first,"
She sat on the bench and Clyde reached for a chair and sat on it. He started his yapping, can't he just stop yapping even just for a minute? He continued until Jay asked, "Anyway, tell me what you want to talk about".
"Yeah, sorry but did you know that Keifer was engaged?," Clyde asked her and she shook her head. I'm sorry Jay.
He gave her some pictures, I couldn't clearly see the pictures but I knew it was me and Ion. Jay rolled her eyes at the pictures. I tried to control myself from laughing but I still let out a small chuckle.
"Actually, Keifer was forced to do this,"
Clyde? Are you really on my side? maybe he's just trying to get back his CEO position. Jay's eyes soften.
