Chapter 5 - Erebos

I look at the 3 requests that I picked up. I only have a day or two to complete these.

Request 1: Bring 100 Silver feathers from the Silver Falcons

Request 2: 20 Pelts of Black Wolf Fur and 20 sets of Fangs from Adult Black Wolves.

Request 3: 10 Cores from Viceris

Looking at the 3rd request, I grumble.

These creatures are hard to come by. I would need to hunt the high trees to get hold of these creatures.

I walk back to the inn as I buy some food and water for the trip, and make sure I have the correct items needed for my trip.

I talk to Herdor while I wait for my food..

"Herdor, if I may ask, is anyone selling a horse here in this town? I need to travel for a bit, and I need one."

He looks at me, placing his hand on his chin, thinking.

"Hmm, I can't think of anyone selling a suitable horse for you, Sir. I can provide an alternative. My son recently found a wild horse but has not been able to tame it. If you are able to tame him, feel free to take the horse. It's round back." He points to the door beside him, "My son should be there tending to the horses at the back."

>> Luck is in motion. <<

The words pop up again, and I grin at the sight. " Thanks."

I swiftly make my way to the door. Around the corner to a teen feeds horses in the barn.

"You Herdor's kid?"

He looks up at me, overcome with shyness, and looks down, nodding his head ever so slightly.

"Show me the wild horse."

He stands up as he leads me further down the barn, where the horse is tied up. It shakes its head, tossing its mane as it attempts to escape the chains. It's a big, wild black horse, dark as the night, and every toss to achieve freedom looks majestic.

I open the gate and step in.

"Sir, it's dangerous!"

Before the kid could stop me, I placed my hand on the horse's head. Sturdy, unwavering. The horse flings its hoofs at me, attempting to knock me back.

Using mana, I strengthen my body, shielding myself as I push him back. I take out my sword, and in one full motion, I slash towards the horse.

Chunk!

"No!" The boy screams on the verge of tears. I turn my head to look at him as I put the sword back into my sheath.

"Calm down, kid. I was just helping it."

The chains wrapped around his neck are now on the floor, cut into two. The horse calms down as it runs its big beady eyes at me.

I attempt to touch its head again. It lets me.

"Erebos, this is your name."

I pat its head and grab the reins. I effortlessly pull myself up as I sit on the saddle.

Taking out a couple of coins, I toss them at the kid. "For your troubles, and the chain."

Now, with all the necessary items, I ride out for the hunt.

----

It's deep in the forest, and I finally started to get to the border where monsters lurk.

I venture into the deep, magical forest, and the density of the magic gets heavier around me the deeper I go in.

Fwoosh!

I throw myself off the horse. A spear was thrown at me.

I seriously can't seem to get away from these damn spears.

My blood boils as I become enraged.

"Come out, you bastard. Why are you hiding and throwing spears at me? It was not the best choice, really, trust me. I am going to make you regret your choices"

For just a moment, I see the glint of the spearhead come out from the bushes in front of me. Using magic to strengthen my legs, I dash towards it, dodging the spear and taking my swords out.

I thrust my blade, sensing the moving target. I stab through their chest. It was a goblin. It means there are more.

Another drops itself from the high trees, holding a battleaxe with both hands. It swings it towards me. I tumble, dodging the attack and seamlessly thrusting one blade into its neck, instantly killing it as I stab the third running at me from the side through its eye socket.

Blood gushes out, drenching my hand. The grip on my swords loosens, but the hilt grooves allow me to hold them still. As the thick blood drips from the blade to my fingertips, making its way towards my hand, I remove the blades from the unmoving carcasses and flick my hands, getting rid of the blood.

Squelch

The blades come out without a need for force. The blade is sharp; it could slice bone like butter.

"I told you guys, bad choice. I don't like it when people threaten my life with spears." My eyes glint with spite as it reminds me of the betrayal, just for a moment.

I whistle as Erebos follows the sound and comes up to me. I take an apple out of my inventory and feed him.

"I will be back, Erebos." I take one last look at him, "Keep yourself safe." With full trust, I make my way deeper into the forest.

I am so close to levelling up. This is great, I can get more stat points.

I dash up a tree, pushing through, hopping each branch as I get higher.

There is bound to be some Viceris around here. I am going to have to get higher into the mountains for the falcon and wolves.

The trees where Viceris are normally found are massive spruce trees towering over 90m high, blocking all sun with their thick and dense crowns. I have climbed halfway up a tree and I start to sense the slithering movements.

Hissssss-

The sound gets closer and closer.

Finally, I found them.

Viceris, a magical creature, a snake that contains cores. Each core is unique from one to another and is sought after by magicians a lot, as they can imbue their magic in them and are also beautiful alternatives for magic jewellery.

They are also very deadly.

Spanning a massive length of 15-20 meters, venomous, this head can even be the same size as a human. They eat anything and everything that moves, including humans if hungry, even their own species.

They already know I am here, so there is no way for a sneak attack. These creatures find their prey through vibrations, so every surface I touch, they hear me. The only way to kill them is to run all in. No hiding, just pure face-to-face battle.

I make sure that I do not get too close, cause if they get their fangs on me, I am dead meat.

I take out the spear.

Finally, this can be of use.

As I spot a Viceris just a couple of meters in front of me, I waste no time. Gripping my spear on the left and a sword on the right, I dart towards it. I do not ever let it move from it's position as fast as lightning I spear the snake by it's chin.

Pushing magic to strengthen my jab, the spear manages to pierce through its hard steel-like scales, cracking it as the sharpened tip gushes into its flesh.

It bears its fangs at me, venom dripping from its fangs as my spear, which has stabbed through its chin to the roof of its mouth, prongs it wide open.

Swoosh!

Instantly, the head of the Viceris is chopped off.

The body and head were still twitching in a wild manner. The body falls all the way down, still squirming. I make sure that the beheaded Viceris is still at a distance as it still attempts to bare its fangs at me.
