That didn't feel quite right to Chronos, but Archivist Quillfeather might be onto something.
"Archivist if void destroys everything it touches then how is Chronos alive?" Micheal asked.
Chronos chose to speak up before their minds wandered into other directions.
"Void doesn't destroy everything. It only destroys anything that is too weak to withstand it, which is most things that exist in the physical world. There are various spells for summoning creatures that live in the void to the physical world too."
Archivist Quillfeathers feathers puffed up in excitement.
"This is an entirely new direction of research," he exclaimed. "You must help me discover the secrets of the void."
"I can't do that, I'm too busy handling my own affairs, besides I only have one void spell. It's a spell that uses the freezing chill of the void to create ice. And before you ask I only have 76 points right now which is only enough to buy one or two living void spells and I'm not going to waste it on research."
He'd already spent 150 points to buy the [Rift Spear] skill leaving him with precious few points to work with. Unfortunately, he hadn't had time to go out and earn more leaving him with the gradual accumulation that came as the days passed.
"Well, that's not fair. I don't have access to void skills in the system. You have to let me study your skills, please."
Archivist Quillfeather gave Chronos his best impression of puppy dog eyes, but Chronos wasn't moved at all. The actual puppies amongst the werewolves were much better at begging.
"No, I need my skill points for my own use. I don't have enough for other people to play with them."
"That's fair."
Archivist Quillfeather looked down, unhappy with how this was turning out but accepting that he couldn't do anything about it. Then he remembered that Chronos was a part of a clan.
"Wait, if you have these skills then others in your clan must also have them. Quick Micheal, pack my things, we're going to the Beklaedning clan as soon as possible!"
Before they could leave Chronos put a hand on the bird's back.
"Calm down. Only a few members of my clan have a chance of accessing void skills."
"How can you be certain of that?"
"My clan has an area-of-effect skill that we can train to use, it's called [Cold-Moon Pressure]. I recently discovered that it's actually a void based skill and since only a few people in my clan can use it only those members can use void power.
Since [Cold-Moon Pressure] draws power from the void it is very demanding on our bloodline. If they can't use [Cold-Moon Pressure] then they can't use any other void skills either. Within my clan there's barely a dozen of us that can use that skill."
Chronos had hoped that this would calm Archivist Quillfeather down; however, he looked more eager to leave than ever before.
"Did you hear that, Micheal? There's a dozen of them or more that can use the power of the void! What wonderful news! Haha, I can't wait to meet them. Oh, we need to pack my specialized equipment and contact other archivists, and we should invite some of the spatial mages that work on teleportation arrays to set one up."
As Archivist Quillfeather rattled off his plans Chronos raised an eyebrow at Micheal.
"Is he always this excitable?"
"No, but normally sample sizes for what he wants to research number less than five. Finding out that the sample size actually reached double digits seems to have sent him over the edge." Micheal calmly explained as he noted down everything the Archivist said.
"Huh."
Chronos still needed to speak with Archivist Quillfeather. That meant he needed to find a way to bring him back to the present rather than let him fantasize about the future.
He folded his arms for a moment before coming to a conclusion that he may have to do something drastic. He didn't know how the Archivist Tower would react to having dangerous magic cast inside of it, but he really couldn't think of another way to get him to focus on the present.
Holding up his hand Chronos cast a spell.
[Void Ice]
The temperature on the top floor dropped as an ice ball formed above his hand. Archivist Quillfeather stopped speaking the moment he saw it, staring at it with an intensity that Chronos would swear could drill a hole through the ice.
Then alarms went off throughout the tower as doors slammed shut and defensive spells activated. The Archivist Apprentices rushed behind the spells and a moment later the front door burst open as the Relic Custodians rushed into the tower.
"Well, that's a better reaction time than I thought." Chronos muttered as the Custodians ran up the stairs taking them three at a time.
One Custodian that was clearly more powerful leapt up the center hole using the banisters as a ladder to propel himself faster.
Micheal sighed, rubbing his head in frustration. "There were better ways to get his attention, you know. You didn't have to set off every alarm in the tower."
"I didn't think that creating a bit of ice would set everything off. Besides, I'm just showing the Archivist what he wants to see." Chronos tried to shift the blame but from Micheals glare he knew he wasn't getting away with it.
Then the lead Custodian, who Chronos assumed was their commander, was on their floor glaring at them.
"What happened?"
Before Micheal or Archivist Quillfeather could say anything Chronos spoke up.
"Sir, Archivist Quillfeather wanted to see a rare and somewhat dangerous magic, so I showed it to him. I apologize for causing this disturbance, but I honestly didn't think that every alarm would go off just from making a void ice ball."
The Custodian glared at him for a moment then Archivist Quillfeather's voice interrupted the tense atmosphere.
"Micheal, Micheal! Take notes, the void destroyed the air at the point of contact, but the void ice protects both the speck of void that exists and the rest of the world from the void. Chronos, I can tell that the ice is made to break but what would happen if you shattered the ice?"
Chronos glanced at him as he felt the tension slowly leave his shoulders. While he might be in a bit of trouble he had managed to succeed in keeping Archivist Quillfeather here and could ask the rest of his questions, for now.
