Chronos felt a shiver run down his spine.
Now he understood why Archivist Quillfeather had been so insistent on seeing him as soon as possible.
He had been worried that the system was forbidden magic of the world class. If it had been then an entire apocalypse might have attacked the world to erase the system.
Still, he felt the need to confirm it was safe.
"The system isn't forbidden magic, is it?"
Archivist Quillfeather glanced at him as he swiftly tapped on different parts of Chronos' system screen.
"Hm, it's world magic, of that I'm certain, but it's not forbidden magic. How did you gain access to it anyways?"
"Well, we'd just come out of a tear when we met a Jotun by the name of Hrólmir Snowmane. When he saw that we had a world crystal with us, he asked if he could cast magic on it. At first, I wanted to refuse but the Goddess of order spoke directly through my companion and gave permission after asking a few questions. I didn't think we could refuse at that point."
"Good thing you didn't. The system is amazingly helpful towards growth and development. I can already tell that the world's will is spreading it to distant lands. You'll definitely be blessed by the world for assisting in its creation."
Chronos had no doubt that the world's blessing would assist him in various ways, but he didn't know how it actually worked.
"How does the world's blessing work? Like does it make it easier to find treasures, or does it help with my growth or is it something else completely? And why doesn't the system record the world's blessing?"
"It depends on the person. Some people have found lost treasures while others have had sudden and unexpected growth. A few have even made monumental discoveries allowing society to develop at a breakneck pace like the principal of the Hundred Towers Mages Academy. It really depends on what you want to do.
As for recording the world's blessing it seems the system can't record such a subtle and secretive blessing. Otherwise, the world would get upset at it and harm the wielder, which is not what the system was made to do."
Chronos was pondering on the best way to use the blessing when the world twisted around him.
"Not again!" he exclaimed.
He looked around trying to identify what layer he had ended up in, but it didn't look like he'd gone to another layer this time.
Most layers would only have a single alignment at a time, such as Dream or Vitality, but the space he was in right now looked like a very deep section of the library on the top floor.
Looking around he watched as the bookshelves gently shifted then began moving faster until they were whizzing past him in a blur.
They continued rushing past him for nearly 5 minutes before slowly coming to a stop. In front of him was a book that looked like it had been through a fire dug up from the ashes then buried and dug up again before ending up on this shelf.
Knowing that the library would shift to help you find a book that you needed he gently picked it up and began reading it.
Most of the pages were burned, torn, or smudged with dirt and the title was completely unreadable but from what he could make out it talked about something called the first hunt.
In this story a wolf as large as a moon chased something across numerous worlds. Then it landed on a world with three continents, one of which looked slightly familiar to Chronos.
Unfortunately, the next few pages were too damaged for Chronos to tell what happened next.
The next readable page showed the wolf howling at the sky's three full moons before lifting its claws and tearing a hole in the sky. Through that hole the book said that weird gray matter floated like flying balls.
Chronos' eyebrows furrowed, that description sounded strangely close to what he saw in his dreams.
As the wolf entered the strange hole it declared 'This is the path and the den. Let all wolves follow me and find their rest.'. Numerous wolves leaped through the hole following the larger wolf then the wolves were gone and the hole closed.
"This is interesting," Chronos muttered.
"Is it really that interesting?" Came Archivist Quillfeathers voice from behind him.
Looking at the top of the bookshelf behind him Chronos found that Archivist Quillfeather was sitting there patiently waiting for him to finish reading.
"Yes, have you not read this story before?"
Archivist Quillfeather glanced at the book before responding.
"I can't read that story; the book is completely destroyed."
Chronos looked back at the book only to find that every page had turned black as coal.
"It containe..."
"Don't tell me," Archivist Quillfeather interrupted him. "If the library chose to show you this book, then it was meant for you and no one else."
Chronos nodded before carefully placing it back on the shelf.
"Now tell me, how did you disappear? Sudden disappearances aren't usually a good thing," he said as he flew down and landed on Chronos' shoulder once more.
Chronos sighed, "It's a problem I've been having recently. My bloodline can handle space directly but ever since I reached level one of my bloodline I sometimes fall into other layers against my will. Normally I stay in the same spot whenever it happens, but it must be getting worse since I moved positions this time.
Worst of all I started having these weird dreams of being on a hunt I don't recognize but whenever I am about to catch whatever I'm chasing, I wake up."
"That must be hard for a werewolf. It'd be like if I couldn't preen anymore. Start walking that direction and we'll be back at the desk in a few minutes."
Chronos walked down the book hallway as he continued to complain.
"Exactly, the frustration of almost catching it only to have it snatched away from me is so infuriating. And that's not including the fact that I wake up tired every morning because of these dreams."
Archivist Quillfeather listened to Chronos' complaints and descriptions of what was happening then asked a few more questions before going silent.
After pondering for several minutes, he spoke again, "I'm afraid that you're in a rather bad spot."
Chronos gave him a worried look.
"What you're doing is called Slipping by those that use spatial magic. Normally it's impossible for someone below the fourth rank to suffer from Slipping but if it does happen, they are usually never heard from again."
