IVAN'S POV
At the sound of her name, my stomach did a somersault.
I groaned. "Not this again, Francis. Nina is our prime suspect. We narrow on her and get to the bottom of this. Maeve is a lot of things, but she's not—"
"Ivan." Francis's eyes pleaded with me—something inside them tightened my stomach with a bad feeling, a moment of confrontation I didn't want to deal with. However, his next words didn't give way for such chances. "I know you trust Maeve, and I know you are... blind to anything she does. I understand she is your mate and that makes things difficult—"
"Francis." I growled.
"But I need you to hear me out, Ivan. You can't say you haven't found a few things suspicious about her return to Ash Creek. No one goes back to the place they hate the most. No one goes back to treat the woman who was their biggest tormentor. I'm sorry, but unless Maeve is the Moon Goddess herself, with the kindest, most benevolent heart, something else might be up."
