Chapter 107 - To Save Her

The clinic was a state-of-the-art medical facility, nestled in the heart of the desert. The walls were made of gleaming white surfaces, and the floor was covered with a spotless, polished finish. Modern medical equipment lined the shelves, and a small, portable defibrillator sat in the corner, its presence a reminder of the importance of being prepared for any medical emergency.

Soft, calming music played in the background, and the air was filled with the faint scent of disinfectant. The clinic's advanced life support systems hummed quietly, providing a reassuring presence. His mood was not calmed by it at all. Fuck the ambience she insisted upon. He wanted to find and destroy the media player attached to the settlement's speaker system. He had to hold it together. Why were his family's lives destined to be so hard?

Liam's hands moved with precision as he attached monitoring equipment to Selena's pale form. Her vitals were alarming - dangerously low blood pressure and pulse. He felt a wave of fear wash over him, but he pushed it aside, focusing on the task at hand.

Aya stood beside him, her eyes wide with worry. She was a young girl, with a mop of dark red brown hair and a smattering of freckles across her cheeks. She looked up at Liam, her big blue eyes searching for reassurance.

"Aya, I need you to help me, with your mom and sister, until Jonah or the other doctors get here. I need you to take a deep breath and be calm for me, okay?" Liam said, his voice calm and reassuring. Liam slapped the emergency button.

Aya nodded, although she was scared. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. Liam's eyes met hers, and he smiled softly.

"Can you please hand me the bags of D50 and Saline?" Liam asked, his eyes never leaving Aya's face. Aya nodded and took off like a flash, she returned quickly with the whole box. Her hands shook slightly as she handed Liam the box.

"Good work, sweetie. You are doing fine." Liam said. She watched as he expertly inserted the IV lines, his hands moving with a precision that belied the worry etched on his face.

Aya quickly handed Liam the saline solution, her eyes welling up with tears. "Is Mom going to be okay?" she asked, her voice shaking with fear.

Liam's face was etched with worry, but he gave Aya a reassuring smile. "We're going to do everything we can to help her, sweetie. I promise. Go, now. Listen for me."

Aya nodded, her face set in determination. She watched as her father worked to save her mother, sensing the gravity of the situation, quickly nodded and rushed to retrieve the D50 infusion bags from storage.

Liam's hands moved with precision as he attached monitoring equipment to Selena's pale form. Her vitals were alarming - dangerously low blood pressure and pulse. He felt a wave of fear wash over him, but he pushed it aside, focusing on the task at hand.

"Aya, I need O-negative blood, stat!" Liam called out, his voice firm but laced with concern. "And can you please grab a PICC line kit and a children IV kit? It is in the purple box."

Liam hooked the leads to his daughter next. Her pulse was luckily normal. He sighed with relief. She would just need dextrose and a lot of it.

Aya quickly rushed back with a cart full of supplies Liam the saline solution, her eyes wide with worry. "What can I do to help, Daddy?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Liam's eyes locked onto Aya's, and he gave her a reassuring smile. "You're doing great, Aya. I need you to monitor Ava's vitals and let me know if there are any changes. Can you do that for me?"

Aya nodded, her face set in determination. "Yes, Daddy. I can do that." Her Father looked so overwhelmed, she shook, was this going to happen to her too?

Staff from the surrounding area filtered in, those that could help. First, Gunn burst into the medical bay, his wife Heather, a physician, by his side. "What's going on?" Gunn demanded, his eyes scanning the chaotic scene.

Liam's face was etched with worry, but he remained professional. "It's related to the Seer power. Selena...she lost a lot of blood to Ava, against her will."

Heather's eyes widened in alarm as she rushed to assist Liam. "Let's get her stabilized," she said, her voice calm and reassuring.

As they worked to save Selena, Jonah burst into the medical bay, Rose by his side. "What's happening?" Jonah asked, his eyes scanning the room.

Liam's face was grim. "Ava got the gift by force today, and something is very wrong. I was there for Rose's, and this was unlike it."

Jonah quickly sprang into action, hooking up a D50 infusion to Ava's arm. "This will help stabilize her blood sugar," he explained, his voice calm and reassuring. He had been there when Rose and Selena had received and overused their gifts. As a trained 'Su' or Protector, he learned all of the crucial steps to care for Seers. He had not expected there to be so many now.

But despite their best efforts, Selena's condition continued to deteriorate. Her pulse flatlined, and Liam's heart sank.

"We're losing her!" Heather cried out, her voice laced with panic.

Liam's face was etched with despair as he grabbed the defibrillator. "Clear!" he shouted, shocking Selena's heart back into rhythm.

The medical bay was a cacophony of beeps and alarms, the air thick with tension. Liam's eyes locked onto Selena's face, his heart pounding in his chest. "Please, Selena, don't leave me. Not now. Not ever," he thought. As the machines continued to beep and whir, Selena's heart finally began to beat again. Liam felt a wave of relief wash over him, but it was short-lived.

Selena's eyes slowly fluttered open, her gaze unfocused and cloudy. She was met with the concerned faces of her loved ones, their eyes red-rimmed from worry and fatigue.

Liam's face was etched with relief as he grasped Selena's hand, his eyes locking onto hers. Liam's eyes never left Selena's face, his mind racing with questions. What had happened to Selena? Why had she lost so much blood? And what had she paid dearly for?

As he looked at Selena's pale face, Liam knew that she had done something she wasn't supposed to do. Something that had put her life at risk. And he knew that he had to find out what it was. The machines surrounding Selena's bed beeped and whirred, a steady reminder of the fragile state of her health. Liam's grip on her hand tightened, his heart filled with a mix of emotions - relief, worry, and determination.

Liam's eyes welled up with tears as he grasped Selena's hand. "Don't apologize, my love," he whispered back. "You're going to be okay. We're going to get through this together."

Aya looked on, her eyes wide with worry, but also with a sense of relief. Her mom was going to be okay. She was going to make it.

As Liam worked to stabilize Selena, Jonah turned his attention to Ava, who was still unconscious. He quickly measured her blood sugar, his face set in a concerned expression.

"Ava's blood sugar is critically low," Jonah said, his voice firm and professional. "I'm going to add an IV line with a saline and D50 bag to help stabilize her."

Jonah quickly and efficiently inserted the IV line, attaching the saline and D50 bag to the line. He checked the flow rate, ensuring that the fluids were administered at the correct rate.

As the fluids began to flow into Ava's body, Jonah monitored her vital signs, watching for any signs of improvement. Liam, meanwhile, was focused on Selena, who was still struggling to regain consciousness.

Aya looked on, her eyes darting back and forth between her mother and sister. She was scared, but she was trying to stay strong, knowing that her family needed her to be brave.

"Dad, is Ava going to be okay?" Aya asked, her voice trembling.

Liam looked up, his eyes locking onto Aya's. "We're doing everything we can to help her, sweetie," he said, his voice reassuring. "Jonah is taking good care of her, and we'll get her through this."

Aya nodded, her face wrought with worry. She knew that her family was strong, and that they would get through this but this was really bizarre. "So what exactly is happening Daddy?" she asked. Their family seemed different from the others. Even the scientists' families. There was always this tense guard around them and Mom would often have to walk away to a room randomly.

"Aya, our family is a little different than others, your grandmother will come soon and explain it to you both when Ava and your mother wake up from their sleep. But I can tell you it is a very important difference and duty." Liam explained as he worked.

Jonah cast Liam a smile. He had the benefit of having been born in a family of Seers. He had an expert with him at all times. Liam was an outsider, but he had softly handled it in Selena's stead. It was weird to hear she had another encounter word with the goddess, he had seen her briefly twice. Selena was on her third time, was it more?
