Chapter 103 - All Twisted

The community was nestled in a picturesque coastal area, surrounded by rugged cliffs and sandy beaches. The landscape was dotted with succulent plants and hardy trees, adapted to the harsh desert conditions. In the distance, the majestic dunes of the Namib Desert stretched towards the horizon, their golden sands glowing warmly in the sunlight.

To the west, the Atlantic Ocean crashed against the shore, its waves pounding out a soothing rhythm. The sea air was filled with the cries of seagulls and the smell of saltwater, invigorating the senses and refreshing the spirit.

Dominating the landscape were eight massive geodesic domes, their translucent surfaces glinting in the sunlight like giant crystals. Each dome covered an impressive 400,638.786 square meters, providing a vast, climate-controlled environment for the residents to live and work.

The domes were arranged in a circular pattern, with walkways and gardens connecting them. They were designed to be self-sustaining, with their own systems for air, water, and waste management.

But the community's true marvel was the vast expanse of converted desert that stretched out before it. Over 20 kilometers of arid landscape had been transformed into lush orchards, teeming with fruit trees and verdant greenery. The orchards were a testament to the community's ingenuity and determination, providing a bounty of fresh produce to the residents.

Beyond the orchards lay 40 kilometers of fields, where crops of all kinds were grown using sustainable and innovative farming techniques. The fields were a hive of activity, with farmers and agricultural robots working together to tend to the crops and ensure a bountiful harvest.

The community was also home to a thriving shipyard and Sol Ship and Personal Vehicle Manufacturing, where skilled craftsmen and women built and repaired vessels of all kinds. The shipyard was a bustling hub of activity, with the sound of equipment ringing out and the smell of ocean clean air.

At the heart of the community was a massive Solar Plant, its sprawling panels stretching out across the desert landscape like a shimmering sea of silver and black. The Solar Plant was the community's lifeblood, providing power and energy to the residents and fueling their innovative endeavors.

But as the community went about its daily business, a sense of unease settled over the landscape. A cyclone was brewing on the horizon, its rotating clouds churning the ocean into a foamy frenzy. The winds were picking up, whipping the palm trees back and forth like giant tentacles.

The community's residents were well-prepared for the storm, but they knew that the cyclone's fury would be a test of their resolve and their ingenuity. They had designed the geodesic domes to withstand the strongest winds, but they still needed to take precautions to ensure everyone's safety.

As the cyclone drew closer, the community came together to secure any loose outdoor items, cover windows, and reinforce the structures. The residents worked together with a sense of purpose and determination, knowing that they would ride out the storm together as a community.

The sky was a deep, foreboding grey, with clouds that seemed to swirl and twist in every direction. The wind was picking up, and the orchards were swaying in the wind. Selena stood at the edge of the community, her eyes fixed on the sea. The waves were crashing against the shore, sending spray high into the air.

"This Benguela Niño has been so frustrating," Liam said, coming up beside her. "The forecast said the cyclone would be a big one."

Selena nodded, her mind racing. The community was well-prepared for the extra water that came with the Benguela Niño. They had built a state-of-the-art desalination plant, which would provide them with a reliable source of freshwater. The reservoirs, including the newly excavated would start to expedite the landscape transformation.

But the high winds were a different story. The community's buildings were designed to withstand strong gusts, but they still needed to take precautions. Selena and Liam quickly rallied the community, and together they worked to secure any loose outdoor items, cover windows, and reinforce the structures. The young trees had been stacked down after the first windstorm.

The twins, only 6, were watching as the staff worked. It was all hands on deck. Everyone was helping to tie down the solar panels and wind turbines. "This is exciting, look at the trees, they look like waves!" Ava exclaimed.

Selena smiled, but her eyes were serious. "That's not as exciting as you think. Okay, it's time to go home, kids. Daddy will take care of things here."

Liam nodded, his eyes locked on the stormy horizon. "I'll take control here. You take the kids home and keep them safe."

"You will come back safe. Stay away from the shore." Selena warned. She pecked him on the lips to make sure that he'd be fine. He nodded, and together they herded the twins towards their home. As they walked, the wind grew stronger, and the rain began to fall in thick, heavy drops.

Just as they reached the safety of their home, Liam's voice came over the comms system. "Selena, we've got a situation here. The storm has intensified, and we're now looking at a rare cyclone - a category 3."

Selena's heart skipped a beat. A category 3 cyclone was a serious storm, with winds of over 120 km/h. She knew that Liam and the team would do everything in their power to keep the community safe, but she couldn't help feeling a sense of worry.

She looked down at the twins, who were watching her with wide, anxious eyes. "Don't worry, kids," she said, trying to sound calm. "We'll be safe here. Daddy will take care of everything."

Liam sprinted across the rooftop, his shoes pounding the surface as he desperately tried to secure the solar panels. The wind howled around him, threatening to rip the panels loose and send them crashing to the ground.

Finally, he finished the last panel and turned to make his way back to the safety of the dome. But as he took his first step, a gust of wind caught one of the panels, tearing it loose from its moorings.

Liam tried to dodge, but it was too late. The panel swung wildly, its edge striking Liam with a loud crack. He felt a wave of dizziness wash over him, and then everything went black.

Liam's body crumpled to the rooftop, his unconscious form battered by the wind and rain. The storm raged on, unaware of the danger that had just befallen one of the community's leaders.

Inside the dome, Selena tried to reach Liam via the comms system, but he was unavailable. She tried again and again, but there was only silence.

Selena's heart began to beat faster as she realized that something might be wrong. She took a deep breath and decided to go look for Liam.

As she ran out of her home, she saw a group of workers carrying Liam's unconscious body towards the medical center. Selena's eyes widened in alarm as she rushed towards them.

"What happened?" she asked, her voice shaking with worry.

"He was hit by a loose solar panel," one of the workers replied. "We found him on the rooftop."

Selena's face went pale as she rushed to Liam's side. She quickly took charge, directing the workers to take him to the medical center.

Selena opened up the comms channel and called Heather. "Can you please watch the girls. Liam got hit by a panel."

"We'll be right over. We will bring a movie and make a night out of it." Heather said. She was pregnant with their first child and excited about everything kid-related. "Should I send Gunn over?"
