Chapter 50 - Worried

Jay's family received a harvest of approximately 130 kg of rice, intended for four months.

This means that Jay's family only receives a monthly ration of 32.5 kg of rice, which must be divided among four adults and one child.

To illustrate, one kilogram of rice is enough to make 8-10 meals, so if Jay's family consists of five people, that means they will only be able to eat twice a day.

Therefore, there will be a period where they will have to endure hunger, with the requirement of eating three times a day.

This means that there will be a month when they won't have enough food. On the other hand, there will be additional food in the form of sweet potatoes and potatoes that will also be distributed.

However, the amount is also limited, as, once again, there are taxes they must pay.

His family is clearly not feeling too well about this, but Jay, who has supplies in his space, is not worried because he has enough food in his space.

Moreover, Jay had harvested two crops in his space, and there was still plenty stored in his warehouse.

So he wasn't worried about that fact, but his father and mother, and even Ameno, didn't know about it, making them a little anxious.

Now there was only one reason for Jay to bring the food, and he would have to exchange it on the black market.

But Jay needed a logical reason, and fortunately, he had one prepared.

"How did our family share go?" his mother asked, slightly anxious, when she saw Jay and his father return with two sacks of food that looked half full.

"We only got 130 kg of rice this time," Paul, Jay's father, replied, with a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"Haaa...how could that be?! Why is there so little? Shouldn't we have gotten 200 kg of rice?" Jay's mother asked, dissatisfied and anxious.

Jay's mother had thought that with the harvest over, my family would be able to hold a wedding for Jay and Ameno properly.

But now, with only that amount of food, it was clearly impossible to do so.

"Don't worry, I'll visit Dad's house later and ask for help," Paul said to his wife.

"Okay, that's all we can do," Jay's mother replied to Paul.

As for Jay and Ameno, who had overheard the conversation, they wanted to tell their families that they could provide for them.

As a ninja, Ameno certainly possessed skills and abilities far beyond those of a normal human.

And with her ninja medical skills, it wasn't impossible to obtain food in the form of game with her skills.

However, if she revealed these abilities, how would her family react to Ameno's identity?

Wouldn't this only arouse their suspicions, and ultimately, the villagers who orchestrated the incident would report their suspicions.

It was extremely rare for a woman to possess such excellent hunting skills, and it was unheard of throughout Adam Village and other nearby villages.

A woman who was a skilled hunter, such a phenomenon, naturally, would draw attention to Ameno.

So, in this case, Ameno wanted to tell her family immediately, that she could find a way to make their wedding a success.

But of course, the village was still hesitant and unsure whether to tell her or not.

After all, after spending more than a week with Jay's family, she had fully devoted herself to being a good wife and dutiful daughter-in-law.

As for Jay, hearing that his parents wanted to borrow money just to hold his wedding, he naturally felt very uneasy.

And sad, too, he could imagine that if he didn't have the skills, that would be the only way they could go.

After all, their family's reputation had to be maintained, and the invitations they had sent out couldn't be disappointed.

Fortunately, Jay had the skills and was confident in providing everything needed for his wedding.

So, after seeing his parents calm down a bit, Jay spoke.

"Mom and Dad, have you forgotten about my skills?" Jay's voice broke the silence.

"What skills?" his mother asked, confused.

"Hunting... I can hunt, so I can definitely gather some game and trade it for food," Jay immediately answered his mother's question.

"Ahhh... if you hadn't told me, I would have forgotten, Jay, that you're now a fairly capable novice hunter," his father said quickly.

"Yes... yes... big brother... you're a good hunter. You can catch a lot of game, like jungle fowl, partridges, wild ducks, rabbits, and piglets." Nining, who had been quiet and paying attention, joined in.

"Eh, when did you start hunting?" Ameno, who heard this, was surprised and asked.

When Ameno met Jay in the forest, she hadn't paid attention to what Jay was doing.

Except that Jay was on duty gathering animal feed and accidentally ran into her.

Ameno was practically unaware of Jay's hunting abilities.

Moreover, for more than two weeks, they had all been busy with various activities like harvesting and post-harvest care.

So, of course, Jay hadn't had the opportunity to go hunting and supplement his family's nutrition.

So it was understandable that Ameno didn't know. "I forgot to tell you, I'm good at hunting, although not a great hunter, but I can definitely catch some small and medium-sized game," Jay replied.

"But isn't hunting dangerous?" After hearing Jay's explanation, Ameno didn't immediately agree to Jay's hunting proposal.

Instead, she asked him back, realizing that hunting can sometimes be challenging for ninjas.

And Jay, who was considered just an ordinary man, naturally worried about his safety while hunting.

"Don't worry, I'll only go to the outer reaches of the forest, and I won't force myself to venture deep into the forest, so the potential dangers will be much less," Jay tried to persuade Ameno.

"Ahhhh, you young, newlywed couple, how romantic," Jay's mother commented, pleased to see her son and daughter-in-law sharing responsibilities and worries.

As a husband, Jay felt responsible for making his family happy, so he suggested hunting despite the risks.

On the other hand, Ameno, as a wife, was worried about her husband's safety and didn't immediately agree to his proposal.

This only shows that they both love each other and have their own sense of affection and responsibility.

"Mom... aren't you worried?" Ameno asked shyly, but she still posed the question to her mother-in-law.

"Of course I'm worried, but as wives, we must realize that men have responsibilities.

And we can only help as much as we can." Realizing Ameno's concern, Jay's mother tried to reassure her.

"Let me hunt tomorrow and see if I can catch anything good, so then you can consider my hunt." Jay compromised and offered Ameno a reason.

"Okay, then you can hunt tomorrow, but promise me you won't put yourself in danger and be careful while hunting.

I don't need a grand party to celebrate my wedding; just having you by my side is better," Ameno said in a serious and affectionate tone, reminding Jay.

"I understand," Jay replied seriously and smiled at Ameno.
