Chapter 1 - Day 1

Location 1: Windale Village

12:45 am

It was a normal, sunny Tuesday morning at Windale High. This school is located on a small island called Windale, which is east of the mainland, Waleria. Ella and Jason are a teen couple who attended this school. They are both 17.

Ella is a quiet girl with silky black hair and a slim figure. She was quite short and was often bullied, but she never worried because she had Jason by her side. Jason is a tall and handsome guy, with curly, short brown hair and an average build. Even though he was seen as a nerd, he was a very happy and compassionate guy.

One day they were in class finishing a project then suddenly…Boom! They hear a loud explosion outside. Everyone in the class ran down the halls to see chaos. They all looked through the windows in horror; the school fence was being torn down by zombies. Jason went pale as he rushed over to the window in the classroom. All the colour faded from his face as he realized what was going on. Zombies. Actual undead creatures were at their school.

Jason was frozen, unable to move due to the shock of it all. Even though he was scared, he reached out and grabbed Ella's hand. Trying to offer some reassurance.

The intercom suddenly turns on. "Dear students. Please remain in your classrooms! I repeat DO NOT go outside nor open any doors or windows. There are terrifying creatures outside. Stay calm, and listen for instructions from teachers."

Jason and Ella listened to the intercom carefully. They glanced at the other students. Most of them looked scared, some unbothered, and some excited. Jason was hoping for a plan or something on what to do.

They joined their four friends who were at the back of the class thinking:

Max - the class president;

Alex - the school's number one hockey player;

Sara - Alex's girlfriend;

Brian - Ella's twin brother.

Max is known around school as a very bold and persistent guy, with high grades and is very bossy at times. Alex is the ace of the high school hockey team. He was quite popular with most girls but he never took his eyes off his girlfriend. Sara is a very quiet girl who doesn't talk much. She recently transferred, but people were fascinated by her Korean accent and her clear skin. Brian was a member of the football team, he is usually nonchalant and hates attention, but is willing to help others in need.

Max stood up and cleared his throat before he spoke.

"Everyone listen, I know we're all shocked because... well, it's not every day we see

a herd of zombies break in, but we need to be as calm as possible. We can't panic.

That's the worst thing we can do right now. We need to work together, stay strong,

and find a way to survive this."

Max looked around at the rest of the class. Trying to see if his words are effective.

"Zombie's?!...What should we do?!" Sara says terrified.

Max took a deep breath and tried to think of a plan. Jason spoke up to the others, hoping they might have some ideas.

"Has… anyone come up with any ideas to get out of here?"

The others shook their heads in response, not a single one had a plan. Jason let out another sigh, feeling more defeated now. He looked at the other students, looking at their tired faces.

"Let's try to enter the cafeteria," Sara suggested.

Max agreed, "Okay...I think that's a good idea. Everyone, come with me."

Jason stood up, helping Ella stand up as well. He followed close behind the others

holding Ella's hand. The six of them walked down the hall, passing screaming students, and headed towards the cafeteria. Jason's heart was beating rapidly in his chest. Just the thought of potentially walking past a horde of zombies was nerve-wracking.

Max slowly reached for the handle and turned it, hoping it would open without much trouble. The door opened and there was a zombie over the counter where the food was.

"Alex, you play hockey, right? You have your stick with you?" Ella asked.

Alex nodded in response, holding up the hockey stick in his hand,"Yeah. I have it on me."

"Can you knock out that zombie with it?"

Alex gripped the hockey stick, his knuckles turning white from nervousness and

fear. He slowly nodded as he prepared himself, taking a deep breath before he spoke.

"I…I can try."

After a moment, he slowly peeked his head around the corner into the cafeteria. Alex caught a glimpse of the zombie; it was just barely standing there, staring at the wall, unmoving. It looked like it hadn't noticed Alex yet.

His heart was beating rapidly and adrenaline ran through his body. The others were close behind him, watching in suspense.

Alex could feel the weight of the responsibility that was put on him. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to shake off the anxiety and fear he was feeling.

"Okay...Okay, I can do this..." He repeated to himself over and over again as he gripped the hockey stick even harder.

Alex swung the hockey stick with all his might. There was a loud Thwonk! The sound echoed through the cafeteria. The zombie's head separated from its body, landing on the ground with a loud thump. Alex stood there, frozen, the realization of what he had just done setting in.

The others who were watching were silent. Alex closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself down. His girlfriend held him tight, trying to offer as much comfort as she could.

They went into the cafeteria and started loading up on food, packing as much as they could into their backpacks. They grabbed chips, fruit, sandwiches, and anything they could find that could feed them for the day. It was hard to believe that they were raiding the cafeteria like this.

Jason, who was peeking out of the window, looked on in horror as he saw the other students being chased on the field. He felt a sense of dread wash over him as he continued to watch, hoping they would find a way to escape. He was terrified that this might happen to them too.

"Does anyone have a driver's license? We can use the school bus to escape." Ella

suggested.

Max thought for a moment before responding, "I have one, but we need to find a way to distract them. We need to find something that can draw all of their attention away from us so we can get to the bus."

Alex responded, "I have a shotgun."

"A-A shotgun? Where the hell did you get that?" Brian looked at Alex with surprise

and shock.

"His dad goes hunting in the summer, so he sometimes borrow his guns," Sara

answered.

"We need something loud enough to draw their attention away. Like a fire alarm, or

a siren. Something that will be hard for them to ignore," Jason added.

"We can use the control room," Ella suggested.

Jason looks at her convinced, "You're right. If we go there we can trigger the alarm. That should be enough of a distraction to get the zombies away from the bus."

Max volunteered to go to the control room. Brian also tagged along. The control room was filled with a maze of wires and monitors. Max carefully tried to locate the fire alarm and the emergency siren. After a few minutes of searching, they finally found the right switches to flip, activating the alarm. It was a success.

The alarm blared loudly, echoing through the halls and the school grounds. The others could hear the sound of zombies in the distance, slowly moving towards the source of the sound. They all sneaked out of the school undetected and hurried towards the bus.

Jason's mind was racing as they drove through the school's back gate. He'd never been more scared in his life, both for himself and for his girlfriend. He glanced at Ella again, feeling his chest tighten as he thought about how much he loved her and how desperately he wanted to keep her safe.

Alex and Sara sat in the back of the bus, talking amongst themselves and trying to stay calm. Brian was upfront with Max, trying to get a signal on his phone. It was clear everyone was stressed and terrified. The weight of the situation was bearing down on all of them.

As the bus drove through the city, the group could see the chaos that had unfolded. Buildings were on fire, there were cars abandoned on the roads, and zombies wandered the streets. It was like something you would see in a movie. The sight was terrifying and it was hard to believe that this was their reality now.

4:20 pm

Max carefully drove the bus into a quiet area behind some abandoned buildings. They needed a place to rest and gather their thoughts. They gathered around a campfire, sitting close together for warmth and comfort as they ate rations for dinner.

There was a somber mood in the air, as everyone was lost in their own thoughts and worries. The only sounds that could be heard were the crackling of the fire and the occasional zombie groans in the distance.

Jason got up from his spot by the fire, telling Ella that he was going to take a quick pee and he stepped away. Brian stayed close to Ella, keeping an eye on her and looking around to make sure they were still safe. He could see the worry in her eyes and he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I'm so scared," Ella whispers shakingly.

Brian took a deep breath and gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze.

"I know...I am too. But we're gonna be okay. We're all in this together, and we're not

gonna let anything happen to you or the baby. I promise."

Ella's eyes widen, "How did you-"

Brian chuckled softly, giving her a small smile.

"Come on, I'm your twin brother. I know you better than anyone, I could tell you were pregnant. I just didn't want to say anything in front of the others. I figured you'd tell me when you were ready. I've known since you first skipped lunch and then almost passed out in gym class last week. It didn't take me long to figure it out."

Ella looked at him surprised then smiled, "Sorry for not telling you directly. Have

you told mom or dad yet?"

"No, I haven't. I kinda figured you wanted to keep it a secret for now. With how Dad

is, I'm not sure how he'll react. By the way, have you told Jason yet?" He asked.

Ella looks at him conflicted, "No…I don't know how to tell him. I was planning to

tell him earlier, but then this all started…sigh…I'm scared."

Brian looks at her reassuringly, "I understand…but I'm sure Jason would be there for you. He truly loves you, just…tell him when you're ready."

Ella hugs him, "You're the best twin brother ever."

Brian smiled and returned the hug, feeling a mix of both happiness and worry for his

sister. He put his arms around her and held her tightly.

"You know I'm always gonna look out for you, no matter what. Always."

11:30 pm

That night, everyone settled into the bus for the night. Max had volunteered to take watch outside the bus, keeping an eye out for any signs of trouble. The others all tried to get as comfortable as possible. Alex wakes up in the middle of the night and notices that his girlfriend, Sara, is not beside him. He looked around the bus, and whispered her name in the dark, trying to keep his voice low to not wake the others.

"Sara? Where are you?"

Alex steps out of the bus, and a gush of cold air slapped his face. She takes a deep breath and began walking down the silent street to look for Sara.
