Chapter 7 - Day Two

Oracle watched as his back turned away from them, and yet for some reason, they felt like reaching out to him...

The worst thing about waking up? Is hearing the alarm clock going off and interrupting a nice dream. This was something that frustrated Safrina. Sighing, the girl got up preparing for another day in a place called School, or what she would like to call it, jail for kids. What a joy it is to learn things that are unimportant to the real world. The endless loop of getting up, going to school, coming home, and doing homework-anticipating when fall break rolls around or, even when winter breaks come. Days of relaxation, nothing to stress over. Glorious times.

Skipping breakfast normal thing for the young girl; she made her way to school with a tired look in her eyes as she entered the front seat of her uncle's car, quickly pulling her phone out of her pocket to check what her online friends had to say…

Cahir debated on if he should go to school or not that day anyways, he laid curled slightly underneath the blankets on his bed with the light of his screen phone flashing into his eyes, constantly turning it on and off, watching as the time slowly passed by before finally turning off his phone and getting up. Might as well go to school, there's no reason to skip out on the second day, and besides, it wasn't like there was anything important happening today anyway. The cool air touched the bare skin of Cahir while he shivered and quickly turned off the lone fan that kept him cool during the night.

During this, he began to get ready for school, but not before checking the time once more, noticing he was going to be late once more that day. Which, was no deal to him, and with a shrug he put his phone in his pocket and shuffled his book bag onto his back, making his way to the door, but not without making sure he had not forgotten anything first, giving a glance around the place and when he was satisfied that he had everything, Cahir left the house and began his journey to school.

Never had Oracle dealt with such oddities, legs, human legs at least. Well, it wasn't exactly odd, it was more like the guide hadn't used this form for a long time, so everything just was off about it and...Despite the struggles and stumbling they had the prior day, Oracle managed to get everything they needed to score a spot (pretty late though) in the same school where they were supposedly to meet the "future heroes" of Earth.

Oracle let a soft sigh escape their lips as they paused a bit, not realizing that they had gotten lost in their thoughts once more. The doubt they felt in all this, and their overthinking of using not four but two legs to walk-everything, it just...scrambled up the guide's mind and they had almost ran into the door of the school-which, would not have been an impressionable first time if they were going to go to this building which these humans had considered "a place for education." This… was quite a silly place, funny indeed. To Oracle, at least.

Sighing a bit, they adjusted the small book back, moving their long hair away whilst adjusting themselves before reaching out and pushing the door open. There's a first for everything and they figured going here wouldn't...be too bad, hopefully…

Math, the first subject, the first class and the most tiresome one too, it was always boring and Safrina found it quite impressive that she managed to stay awake just to hear the squeaky voice of the teacher, and to notice that one girl who always walks in late with either a drink or some whole meal from a fast food place in hand, sitting down and to eat it while the lecture of the teacher continued.

High School is the worst place to spend one's time. People here were disrespectful, especially to the teacher. Kids talked over the teacher, some slept in the class just came in late. Which, speaking of the devil of sorts, the door creaked open and the new kid, Adam, decided to show his face, looking cool as a cucumber, totally disregarding that he was causing more interruptions to the class, but… There seemed to be someone coming behind him, and he didn't seem too happy to have this little stalker.

Safrina's gaze went from Cahir to the other new student. They were slightly shorter than Cahir and a lot paler than the others, holding both masculine and feminine features. Despite their pale, porcelain-like skin, they had rosy pink cheeks and glacial green eyes, which held an odd light of excitement and hope. And oh...she felt bad for them, that light would be quickly snuffed out by the terrible people at this school and the boring lectures, but… can't save them from this everlasting trap that wasted away precious time, time which Safrina could be using for more… important things.

"Ah! I heard we were getting another new student here! You said your name was Masa, right?" the teacher asked, stopping what they were currently doing and greeting the seemingly fragile character that seemed to be looking around the room now, it seemed like… they never had been to an actual school before, and she wondered silently if they were homeschooled? Squinting a bit, awaiting to hear this newcomer's response.

"Ah… yes, Masa! It's nice to meet you." They beamed a bit, which made Safrina sigh a bit, poor kid, they're going to be eaten alive, and not the good kind either. Maybe she should lend a hand to them? Before they're killed by the sharks of this school-to keep that odd light that draws her to Masa? It was a debate, but perhaps a good one.

Of course, after the quick introduction of Masa, they easily found an empty seat near Saf, which she found strange. First, Cahir had been the newest student of the school, and not that he held a sort of familiarity with him that she couldn't put her finger on, but Masa? She felt as if they were holding something back secret, but not only that, Safrina felt like she needed to get to know them, but why? So many odd things were happening, like dominoes stacked together and quickly knocked down. These events were kind of… unsettling.

***

That was the same kid from last night. Cahir remembered them clearly, and it was just as clear as the sky the night before. Did… they follow him? Or was it just a coincidence? He had been walking slowly to his first class when he ran into the kid, they looked lost and he had the thought of just casually walking past them and continuing on his way to class but they stopped him from taking any further steps.

"Excuse me? I think we're going the same way, mind me following you?" they'd asked. Pausing, Cahir glanced over his shoulder at them and sighed.

"Just keep a few paces behind me, okay?" he started a bit flatly before putting his hand in his pockets and continuing his way to the classroom. He wasn't exactly happy with this kid being here, but maybe it was due to the unsettling feeling he got from them. He hated it, and they felt like the kid was slightly getting on his nerves, for just being in the same area as him.

What's worse is, the kid in first class was the same as Cahir, and he had half-joked to himself about the kid having the same lunch period as hi,m and maybe he shouldn't jinx it, a terrible idea but… They were introduced to the class as "Masa'' and… It seemed suspicious to him, like a made-up name on the spot when one was trying to cover their true identity, a lie to keep the truth covered. He squinted slightly but took a seat behind the girl he had met yesterday, noticing that she had her attention on Masa, which, slightly irritated him but… he shouldn't care much about it if it gets her off his back for attention then he would enjoy the peace for a bit but, maybe he did silently enjoy the attention of others or the eyes of people taking glances at him to check him out and… maybe noticing others not paying attention to him was pissing him off.

***

Oracle had found itself completely lost, wandering these massive halls while wondering how anyone could find their way through this maze. The… monk tower where kids studied wasn't this bad...was it? They furrowed their brow while looking at the yellow slip in their hands, looking over their schedule for the day, which made none of this stuff make any sense to them! What was all this? Math? Language Arts? These didn't make any sense to the guide.

Earth was...a confusing planet, it would seem, and they felt like maybe they would never get the hang of it. They could ask around, but they seemed to be the only ones wandering the silent, empty halls while lectures took place in something called a 'classroom.' Their eyes scan each number on top of each door, but find no luck in which room it could be.

That… of course, did not last long. They would run into someone else, and a sort of familiar face, and by a familiar face, it was the jerk who had turned their back on Oracle when they had found themselves struggling a bit. Truth be told, they had half the mind to reach out to him and ask for help, to get to know them, but… they had been a bit too slow to do it and lost their chance to talk to this guy.

What made it worse was that the boy's face had a familiar presence to it, that feeling or whatever that he was the one that Oracle had to…ask for help, and that made them wonder why they were chosen for such a task and not someone nicer. Of course, the sense and feeling of knowing the second one eased the kid a bit, at least one of the people who was supposed to save this planet was…nice.

There the two stood in a sort of awkward silence, staring at each other for a bit before the other broke it off and turned around to continue walking. Of course, out of a guess, Oracle reached out a bit with an awkward, sheepish look on their face.

"Excuse me, I think we're going the same way, mind me following you?" they asked him.

Oracle watched his shoulder slump a bit before they agreed to allow Oracle to follow a few paces behind them. Lovely, but they took it and followed quickly behind the other, noticing the small glances towards Oracle when he would look back at him and… boy were the glances that this guy took kept getting more and more bothersome to Oracle but they stayed calm through each passing glance.

If the two didn't learn to get along, which boy… Oracle found that thought quite difficult due to this guy's terrible attitude, it was going to be a long and difficult journey and one that Oracle wondered if they were even going to be able to convince this guy and…her as well, both would perhaps not believe Oracle at first which would mean… they would have to make it believable to them both without too much damning evidence that would give themselves away…not yet at least.

The two finally made it to the classroom and Oracle was swiftly introduced under the alias of 'Masa', they quickly and silently apologize to their mentor, Masa, not only a parent figure for Oracle, but the former guide of their planet before they were given such a title, some would say it was honorable while others would say a curse in disguise, and… they remembered that day all too clearly when the guide-to-be was sent off on this ridiculous journey, but they silently shook that thought off and found themselves a seat near a girl, she… was pretty, and they felt a slight bit of heat rise to their cheek when they noticed her staring at him but tried to pay no mind to it, deciding to focus on the math teacher ahead of them until the bell rang, dismissing them.
