Chapter 9 - The Return of Riku

*Warning: This chapter contains violent descriptions*

The air swirled around as the Assassins dived down towards the city. Every building was dark and some had smoke that rose from one of the windows into the rumbling sky. Buildings crumbled to the ground, and debris from the shattered windows slipped out the openings and large cracks that ran up the walls of the structures. Tokima had never seen anything like this, it was so chaotic and destructive, but she knew full well that there was no stopping once they land. Tokima landed near the middle of the city, sliding the straps of her parachute off and immediately picking up her rifle as she ran through the city.

Ruka and Zak glanced at each other, their parachutes flapping furiously in the oppressive gusts of winds as they navigated through the skyscrapers. It was hard trying to find a flat opening to land without getting hurt. Thunder rumbled in the sky as Ruka briefly loses control of her parachute, desperately trying to find a safe place to land. Would she fail to land and sustain major injuries without even stepping foot into a battle? Thats the last thing she wanted to have happen. To try and fix her landing, Ruka extended her blades outward; the unique shape of the blades was similar to a star, being able to extend freely. With the extension, she launched herself forward, aiming to hit the pavement. To prevent air resistance, Ruka sliced her parachute, and prepared a technique to land herself.

"Starlight's Glow!" Ruka activated the technique, the bright yellow and orange colors mixing with the shine of her glowing blue star shaped blades. She twirled and spun, gradually preparing her landing onto the pavement beside the abandoned road. Her black leather boots connected with the cracked cement, and she dropped to her knees, gasping for air. The air was thick with smoke, but she slowed her pulse by taking deep breaths to calm her body's natural response to the smoke being inhaled.

Zak landed beside her with a click as his metal chains clinked together as he sheathed his blades, "Are you alright?" He asked Ruka, carefully helping her to her feet.

Ruka nods slowly, "Im fine, just a rough landing since I used the wrong technique."

When the two fully catch their breaths, they both began running through the empty roads of the empty city, looking for anyone that was causing havoc and destruction.

Ryota and Yuja dove downwards, landing in a different section of the city. Sliding the straps of the parachute off his shoulders, Yuja quickly looked around, inspecting the vicinity for any sign of havoc. Ryota quickly joined him, preparing his blade in case of any sort of thing that could come at the two of them.

"All good, ther--" Yuja began speaking, but was cut off by a sudden black flash that rummaged through their blind spots.

With an easy detection, Ryota prepared a technique, waiting for the perfect moment to attack when the opposer had let his guard down even the slightest. Ryota sensed the slow of the enemy's smooth movements, quickly taking the advantage to make a movement.

"Dragon of the River!" Ryota moved his hands, a blue glow radiating off his palms and fingers. The time slowed down and Ryota spun his body, slashing through the enemy's body with such a quick invisible movement that it was barely noticed by Yuja. The enemy stood there, confused as to what was happening with his body. Suddenly, his body diced into hundreds, blood splattering onto the asphalt below his now chopped up body. Yuja nodded at Ryota, who stood there as if he had not just performed such a move. The two quickly navigated through the city, running effortlessly through the dimly lit streets.

Heizu and Gyonu landed on the slanted tiled roof of the monorail station, noticing how far they landed away from the others.

"We have to find anything that is suspicious and is causing destruction," Gyonu speaks lowly, before jumping down to the entrance of the station.

Heizu yells, "Wait up! Don't leave me behind!"

The two begin dashing through the station, sensing something that isn't right about it.

"Doesn't this place seem a little peculiar to you, Gyonu?" Heizu asks, his voice slightly quivering from the overwhelming sinister presence.

Gyonu's eyes scan the walls and windows of the station's entrance hallway, noticing something isn't right, "You're right. It seems as if it's a trap in some way."

Heizu examines the cabinets and storage drawers while Gyonu checks the monorail track. The tracks seemed extra thick for an unknown reason, which made Gyonu check closer. He reaches his hand outward to touch the track, touching something round and cylinder like shaped. With his other hand, he flicked a flame from the random lighter he had in his pocket. Gyonu's eyes widened with shock.

"Heizu!" He stumbles to his feet, tripping on the air but catching himself on the pillar.

Heizu bumped his head on the storage shelve, scared from the sudden yell of his name, "What is it, Gyonu?!" Heizu rushed out to the section where Gyonu was.

"Get out! There's dynamite all over this place!" Gyonu yelled, grabbing Heizu's shoulder and pushing him forward as they both staggered towards the front entrance.

Out of nowhere, Heizu's ear picks up the sound of the dynamite being lit all around them, as if several people were nearby and planned this.

"Gyonu!" Heizu yells, twisting the knob of the entrance door as the floor inside the station begins rupturing, the walls shattering into chunks as the dynamite erupted with loud explosions. A huge cloud of smoke shot up into the sky as the station exploded, the trees and nearby buildings shaking from the rupture.

Akito and Ezra's eyes widened, barely swerving around the large smoke clouds that suddenly erupted from the station, leading them towards the skyscrapers nearby.

With a rough landing, Akito grabs Ezra's shoulder, "Are you okay?"

Ezra nods, "I'm fine," she looks at the rising smoke cloud and the cracked windows of the buildings nearby it, "I hope no one made those explosions detonate."

The two began running down the street, trying to get away from the smoke clouds in case of more dynamite that could be nearby. Buildings creaked from the constant shaking of small and large explosions that detonated across the city, near and far.

Nitaru approaches the city, his blades scratching along the road as he walked through the empty roads. Lights flickered in the buildings nearby him, and he can feel the rumbling ground from the explosions going off. He walked into a tiny park, looking up and seeing the only building with lights on is in the middle of the city. Thats where he needed to go, maybe Akujin purposely did that for him so he wouldn't be distracted to go anywhere else.

His thoughts were interrupted when he heard a single footstep that was approaching. Sensing someone, he immediately turned around, aiming his extended daggers at where the sound was coming from. Nitaru's eyes narrowed as he recognized the face of the person, he pointed the sword at.

"Well, well, well," the person grins, "Long time no see, buddy."

Nitaru gritted his teeth after hearing the person's calm tone, despite what had happened, "I never thought you would come right to me, I thought I would have to look for your coward self."

The person's grin widens, "Why would I be scared of someone who's weak?"

Nitaru slashes his sword, but the blade only cuts through the empty air.

"Gotten stronger? That's surprising for a weakling like you," the person smirks.

"Riku, don't get confident," Nitaru hisses, his seething anger clearly visible.

Riku rests his flaming bow on his shoulders, the flames prohibited from burning him, "Let's get this started, shall we?"

Nitaru grips his daggers tighter, "I'll make you regret everything you did."

Riku laughs, his eyes narrowing with seriousness, "Then attempt, I'd like to see you try."
