Marlon did not ask Christopher to explain in the middle of the garden.
He looked once at Summer, then at Maribel, and led them away from Brighton Park. They crossed to a coffee shop nearby, one that no longer served customers but still had tables and chairs inside. It was quiet enough that they could talk without everyone working in the park overhearing.
They gathered around a table near the back.
Marlon remained standing until the others had sat down. Then he pulled out a chair and faced Christopher and Lucy.
"From the beginning," he said.
Christopher nodded.
He explained when Tommy's message had arrived and how they had prepared for the rescue. Ryan, Rachel, and Lucy had taken the boat toward Brigantine. Christopher, Cindy, Sydney, and the others had waited on their side of the water to help when they returned.
He told Marlon about the gunshots.
