Chapter 98: moving towards a dead end
"Dutch, I think they would not stop at this moment and they might send something to attack her even in the sea. As for how they are locating her. May be they have attacked a tracker or someone sold us out already. It is better to leave here quickly."
Right then Benny spoke to inform them that something is chasing them. To their surprise, they see the powerful gunship fly at them, so Dutch tries outmaneuvering them while the E.O. Captain is giddy to attack them.
When he is handed a rifle by Revy, Rock is terrified and hides under a torpedo launcher when the gunship shoots at them. As she shoots at the gunship, Revy is angered that Rock is trying to flee with a life vest, tackling him to the floor.
In the gunship, Mayer wonders why the captain does not destroy the boat since they have the clear advantage and superior weaponry. The E.O. Captain reasons that it will be more fun to watch the pirates die slowly and cower in fear.
Furious, Rock shouts and asks why he has to suffer in such a manner, throwing his rifle into the sea. Looking at this Revy became angry and Grabbing Rock's collar, Revy berates him for throwing an expensive rifle into the ocean.
But the resentful Rock still questions why he has to suffer for something that his boss Kageyama was involved in. Revy guesses that they are not after him but rather, the disk that Lagoon Company stole.
Rock curses his company for treating his life as an accessory and kicks a torpedo launcher repeatedly. This caused Revy to warn him that he should not be kicking it. "You know you are actually kicking a torpedo right"
Vicky did not get out of the ship during this time but stayed in the ship watching as the things happened. He cannot do anything to the flying gun ship with his current power or weapons. So he stayed there silently to watch things as they develop.
Below deck, Dutch asks Benny if he knows there is something odd about the situation. Agreeing, Benny observes that the gunship has completely stopped firing at them and could have easily annihilated them by now.
"They can actually kill or destroy us sinking us to the bottom of the sea but they did not do that instead they stayed away watching us as we run away. It is like a hunter watching the prey or some gun man that wanted to get the pleasure of the hunt."
Vicky said looking at the situation as he analyzed the entire thing. Entering the cabin, Revy asks Dutch what is going on and Benny informs them that the helicopter has consistently maintained a distance of 5,000 meters ever since they ceased fire.
Looking at a local waterway map, Dutch realizes that the gunship purposefully guided them to the area, stating that the path ahead to Palawan is full of rocks and mangroves and will narrow down as they travel further.
"They wanted to make us look like a cornered prey and want to see us struggle and want to see us attack them with what we have and finally destroy us before leaving…" Vicky said once again looking at the situation.
Revy chimes that there is no shame in running, and the like minded Dutch turns Black Lagoon in a different direction. Noticing their attempt to flee, the gunship fires ahead of them again and forced the PT boat to steer back into a narrow channel.
This proved the words of Vicky that he just said. But this did not give them any solution to their problem. Looking outside the bridge window, Rock warns against entering the river mouth, to which Revy replies that they are aware they will have little options to escape.
Benny says that the helicopter has returned to keeping its distance. To the port side, Revy sees a sunken ship and believes that it is a bad omen. Stopping the helicopter in midair, the E.O. Captain declares that they will stay put and wait for the boat to return.
Vicky remembered these things based on the plot he knows and he did not make a move or comment at this moment because it is the time for rock to shine and show off his worth at this moment.
Benny informs his crew that the gunship has stopped by the sunken ship. Arriving at a waterfall, the Black Lagoon has reached a dead end, angering Rock. The E.O. Captain's copilot, Mayer, comments that it is exciting to wonder how the pirates will react in their current crisis.
Agreeing, the Captain asserts that they will give the pirates a slow death if they do not attempt to fight back. As Dutch notices that the gunship is awaiting their return, he guesses that the mercenaries purposefully set up the trap.
Well Vicky has already told this matter and there is no need to guess much about this matter. Worried, Rock rhetorically asks if they really only have the option to die.
When Dutch advises him to calm down, Rock yells that they should at least contact the local police, but Dutch interrupts him with an uppercut, retorting that his panicking is not helping them.
"Bang…"
"Cool off rock, your words did not give any solution…."
Revy wonders if waiting for the gunship to run out of fuel will work, but Dutch responds that the trained E.O. mercenaries will kill them before that happens. Back in the channel, Revy asks how damaged their boat is.
Dutch answered that it is not too bad. He clarifies that he is more worried about their torpedoes. Since the gunship could instantly kill them if they shoot it. As Rock sits down, Benny suggests ditching the torpedoes to avoid injury and make their boat speed faster.
