Chapter 8 - CHAPTER EIGHT

Freya's eyes widened as she sprang up from Adele's laps. She hurriedly logged into her mobile bank and was shocked to see a fat sum sitting pretty in her account.

The corners of her mouth rose slowly as a huge smile formed across her face.

"I can save Marie, I can save her." She mumbled, running out of the boardroom while Maxwell followed behind.

Adele nodded her head, and smiled. Her concern had always been to uplift the family's name, and wouldn't condone any act that drags the family name behind. Hence, her strictness towards Freya when she chose to marry Maxwell.

"Granny, but why Freya?" Patricia mumbled, furrowing her brows into a frown.

"Yes! Why her? It could have been someone else in the family, why did it have to be her?" Avery added, rolling his eyeballs around in agitation.

Adele smiled, grabbed the bottle of wine in front of her and took a sip.

"It doesn't matter who gets it, as long as it is one of us, then we are good to go." Adele replied as she dropped the bottle of wine.

Mason, who had been silent all this while, took a deep breath and faced Adele.

He opened his mouth to talk, when he suddenly threw a glance at Nicholas.

Nicholas understood his expression and slowly rose from his seat.

"Congratulations Adele, now you can be free from the White's family." Nicholas complimented, bowing slightly to Adele.

He turned to leave the room but Mason's voice brought him to a halt;

"Isn't this the best time for you to get married to Freya?" Mason asked him, causing Nicholas to tighten his fist. He sighed, turned around to face Mason.

"I am never giving up on Freya, I will continue to chase her until she gives in to me." Nicholas replied with an air of confidence, raising his shoulders slightly.

Mason smiled and turned to Adele;

"Don't you think Freya should divorce Maxwell now?" He inquired, maintaining a straight gaze with Adele.

"Why do you say so?" Adele asked him, paying keen attention to his words.

"With Freya's current achievement, Maxwell is in no way qualified to have her. Also, now we are on par with the Whites' family, if we could have a marriage alliance with the Adams' family, we might even overthrow the Whites and they won't be a threat to us in the future." Mason explained to her.

Adele nodded her head, got up from her chair as she paced the room with her hand on her chin.

"You are right. Maxwell's presence in the family would only drag us down, we need someone powerful and wealthy enough to help us push the family's name and influence." Adele agreed with Mason's view. After all, she only cared about the family's name, and would do anything to bring the family to glory.

"Exactly mother…" Mason paused, rose from his seat, walked towards Adele and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"And Nicholas is the best man for Freya, his love for her is so visible and glaring in how he cares for her." He continued.

"Yes. He even got her a Jasmine's wristwatch! How I wish someone could get me that too." Patricia hummed, playing with the tip of her hair.

"I agree with everything that you've said." Adele stated, then turned to Avery.

"Contact the lawyer, he should prepare the divorce papers. Freya will be divorcing Maxwell today. Also, release a statement that we will be withdrawing our partnership with the White's family, and the contract with them will be terminated." Adele dictated, while Avery hurried out to execute her orders.

"Please help inform your family, the wedding alliance shall take place soon!"

"Dad! Are you really going to call him back?" Micheal asked with worry in his tone, at the same time fumbling with a smoke pipe.

Fred gulped down his drink and stared at Micheal.

"Do we have a choice? We have to call him back as the patron has ordered." Fred replied to him.

Micheal angrily slammed the pipe on the table, causing everyone at the bar to fling their eyes at him.

"Don't make a fuss about it, a gentleman should always keep calm even at the worst moments. If you keep on showing fear and anger, people will take advantage of you and feed on your fears." Fred advised him, while Micheal hissed.

"Enough of your quotes, dad. Maxwell is about to take over the family's assets, yet you are still in the mood for quotes. Sighs! You know that once he returns, then it's all over. What if he decides to dig into the matters of the past! Then we are…" Fred hurriedly covered Micheal's mouth with his hand, preventing him from uttering the remaining part of his words.

"Shhh! Be careful, walls have ears." Fred said to him, glanced around for a while before withdrawing his hand from Micheal's mouth.

"You don't need to worry yourself on such trivial matters. I know what to do." Fred mumbled, uncorked another bottle of wine and poured some of its contents into a glass cup.

"What do you plan on doing?" Micheal inquired curiously, sticking his head closer to Fred's mouth.

Fred smiled, and silently tilted Micheal's head aside.

"Just sit back and watch, a drama is about to unfold." Fred responded. Micheal hissed as he moved away, biting his lower lip in the process.

He took his phone and logged into social media, only to be welcomed by two shocking pieces of news.

"What?!" He exclaimed, rising to his feet immediately.

Fred was shocked by his reaction and wondered what had happened.

"The Skye's corporations had awarded a contract to the Smith's family, and the Smith's family had terminated the contract with us, saying they are not a family to be bullied." Micheal summarized the event to Fred. Fred couldn't believe Micheal's words and collected the phone for him to see.

"How…how's this possible?" Fred muttered in shock.

"Dad! The forty percent we've promised those men? Are we not in trouble?" Micheal remarked, recalling how he had boasted to the men on the surety of milking the Smith's family dry.

"If the Patron should know that we were planning on embezzling some money, he would definitely blame and punish us." Fred mumbled as he paced the corner of the bar, racking his brain for a solution.

He suddenly faced Micheal as something clicked in his head.

"Don't we have Mason's scandal with us? Release it to the internet. I want to see how they will be able to maintain their reputation in the future." Fred said with a smirk. A smile formed on Micheal's lips as he raised a thump-up to Fred.

"Brilliant!"
