Christopher cursed after ending the call.
Michael, who was with him in the study, frowned.
"They shot another werewolf," the pack leader explained through gritted teeth.
"Will he be okay?"
Chris nodded, his eyes blazing. "Who's challenging me? And why won't they show themselves instead of targeting innocent civilians?"
Anger and frustration were evident in both his posture and tone.
But Michael had no answers. None of them did. They patrolled the streets of Oldgrove every night, but they were too few to cover the entire town. Tension was spreading among the civilians. Several emails filled with concern and fear had reached them from the werewolf families of Oldgrove. And they were still completely in the dark.
Christopher stopped and placed his hands on the desk. "Maybe we need to take a step back."
"What do you mean?"
"Let's go back to Nereus. Check his properties, bank accounts, everything. See if anything's moved."
"Okay. I'll talk to Markus."
"Let's look into the weapons. See if the gun was the same caliber. If it happens again, we'll run ballistics tests."
Michael nodded, then went to the Swede's office to relay Christopher's instructions.
