Chapter 3 - 3

Kira had no home, no family, and not a single brick or tile to his name in Konoha.

After joining Anbu, he also had to handle internal chores, so he lived in the Anbu quarters.

Now that he had three days off, he couldn't stay in Anbu. If a mission came up and the captain saw him there, his vacation would be ruined.

Kira changed into casual clothes and, moving with extreme stealth, left the Death Forest where Anbu was based, wandering leisurely through Konoha.

He stopped and turned to look at Hokage Rock in the distance.

The colossal faces of the First, Second, and Third Hokage loomed overhead, creating a sense of awe and intimidation.

The closer one got to the base of Hokage Rock and the Hokage Building, the more oppressive the presence of those giant faces became.

This village didn't have the youthful energy he remembered from stories; instead, it was filled with the weight of loss and death.

Everyone, like Kakashi in the original tale, had lost teammates, teachers, and friends, and carried scars that never truly healed.

It was a village where everyone bore some kind of pain.

During the Second Ninja World War, most ninja were on the front lines, leaving Konoha Village feeling rather empty.

After wandering aimlessly for half an hour, kira decided to find a cheap place to stay.

"Where's my wallet?"

Only when he went to pay did he realize his wallet was missing from his ninja tool pouch.

After thinking it over, kira realized he must have left it at Crane Moon Izakaya.

He observed the izakaya from a distance for half an hour and saw the beautiful female boss from the previous night.

It was already noon, and with Anbu's efficiency, if the female boss had been a spy, she would have been executed overnight.

It was good that she wasn't a spy.

Relieved, kira went in to look for his wallet.

The female boss had just gone out to throw away trash when she saw the ninja from last night walking toward her, her nerves on edge.

Was her spy identity exposed after all?

That handsome young man from last night was no ordinary ninja; he had killed her spy teammate with precision.

To avoid leaking information, her teammate had never met her or seen her face—so why was she still in danger?

What should she do?

The female boss pretended not to notice him, turning and heading back inside.

Clutching a sharp fruit knife, she sliced lemon wedges at the bar.

Seeing Night Light sit in front of her, she looked up and asked, "Do you still want a pot of sake?"

"Give me back my wallet, then I'll have money to order sake."

"Ah?"

She stared at the Leaf ninja in surprise, her grip on the fruit knife tightening and loosening.

He wasn't here to arrest her?

"What are you staring at?! Give me back my wallet!"

"Wallet? What wallet?"

Looking for a wallet? The reason was so strange it had to be true.

After the emotional rollercoaster, the female boss felt a surge of relief, her chest rising and falling.

Kira jumped off the high chair and walked to the side, heading straight for the backyard.

But the female boss blocked his way.

"Customer! The backyard is under maintenance, you can't go in!"

She was terrified.

After waking up last night, there was no one in the room.

Her teammate underground had disappeared, and that handsome customer was gone too.

She tried to contact her teammate with special methods, but there was no response.

There was a spot on the ground with a different color, as if someone had dug something out and then restored the surface.

Kira pushed past her and entered the backyard, only to find it really was under maintenance.

The floor tiles had been turned over; it was unclear what repairs were underway.

"I told you it's under maintenance. How about this, customer, you go upstairs to the second floor to rest first, and I'll go into the backyard to look for your wallet." The female boss wrapped both arms around one of kira's arms:

"I recognize you, you're the customer from last night!

Why did I faint? Why did you leave?"

"Last night, after you fell, your head hit the ground and you fainted. I like enthusiastic responses; I don't like lifeless ones."

With his arm pressed against her curves, kira went up to the second floor and asked, "What's your name?"

"."

Sitting in a private room, kira said:

"my wallet has 150,000 ryo in it. You must find it and return my money!"

Leaf ninja were known for their meager incomes.

He had worked in Anbu for a month, risking his life, and only earned 100,000 ryo. The other 50,000 ryo was what he got from the captain last night.

That woman went downstairs to look.

She searched the backyard, the side room, and around every table and chair, but couldn't find the wallet.

Returning upstairs, the woman composed herself and entered the private room with alluring eyes.

"Ninja-sama, I really couldn't find your wallet. I'm so foolish; why did it just occur to me that you didn't really come here to look for your wallet… Although I couldn't find your wallet, I can compensate you in other ways."

This woman remembered that kira liked enthusiastic responses, so she did her best to please him.

Downstairs, the first customers for lunch came in.

After more than ten minutes, they looked up.

Dust drifted down from the ceiling.

The floorboards creaked.

Another twenty minutes passed, and the door to the private room opened.

She pulled her shoulder strap back up, breathing heavily, and closed the door.

Kira shouted, "You said it! You lost my wallet, so I'm staying here for three days!"

"I will definitely compensate you for your losses in various ways."

Kira was satisfied, lying on the bed and pretending to sleep.

Still young, not enough experience. Last night, he thought she wasn't soft or lively enough. It was good, very good.

Three days later, the spy woman heartbroken, saw kira off at the door.

This Leaf ninja was truly tight-lipped; after three days, she couldn't get a single word out of him.

The floorboards had been reinforced once. Was Konoha ninja secrecy really that strong?

But she was sure that the handsome ninja wasn't there to investigate her.

Kira returned to Anbu under the cover of night.

Upon entering, he saw his wallet in his locker!

He picked it up in surprise. How could it be here?

He was careful—three days ago, when he left, there was definitely no wallet in his locker!

Suddenly, the captain's voice came from behind him. The captain had appeared again without warning.

"Fox, I took my 50,000 ryo, and I put down the reward for a B-rank mission, 100,000 ryo, for you. That means you now have 200,000 ryo in your wallet. Count it."

Counting it didn't matter anymore.

Kira just wanted to know now that the behaviour of that women was too enthusiastic from someone who didn't want money. It was suspicious now that I think about it.

Could she really be a spy?

Did Anbu miss it? Or was she really not a spy?

Never mind. Whether she was a spy or not, what did it matter to him? That was Konoha's business, not his.

Even if Konoha was destroyed, it had nothing to do with him.

Female spies are good; female spies need to be investigated frequently, and thoroughly.

The captain said, "Let's go, mission time. The spy we brought back is from Iwagakure. We need to follow the trail."

Kira put on his fox mask, sighing behind it.

Last time, a team also went to follow a trail, but they all died. Spies who dare to operate in Konoha Village have some strength; it's hard to say who is the hunter and who is the prey.

After putting on his Anbu iron vest, strapping on his standard ninja sword, and checking every detail, he followed the captain and two other teammates, disappearing from the Anbu entrance.

He hoped this would just be a simple C-rank mission.
