CHAPTER FORTY FOUR
Centuries ago, witches had been creatures of terrible power. They could bend reality with a whisper, command the elements with a glance, and even change their appearance to mimic anyone of their choosing.
Their magic was pure, unlike demonic magic that was dark and ancient.
But the universe turned its back on them.
The plague came.
Some said it was the birth of the demon of destruction that changed the position of the stars. The balance between dark magic and white magic was disrupted and this led to the corruption of witches power.
The corruption was not a sickness of the body, but something far worse - a mysterious illness that ate away at magical bloodlines from the inside. Witch children born after the corruption were hollow echoes of their ancestors.
Within a few decades, most of the strong-blooded witches were gone. In their place came weakened spell casters who could barely light a fire without burning themselves.
