The next day, Subaru went to Reinhard's place.
"You don't have to come with me," Subaru said.
"I'm all good, so it's fine," Emilia chirped.
"Is she really?" Subaru asked.
A small floating cat manifested. "She's still a little cramped from all the bleeding but she's fine."
"Puck!" Emilia grabbed the cat and shook it around to give it some sense but it just disappeared. Her cheeks reddened as she looked away and walked faster.
Subaru chuckled once, unsure what to make of that. In the end, he chose not to worry about it at all. It was a normal biological phenomenon anyway.
Eventually, they reached Reinhard's place. The Astrea family mansion. Carefully decorated.
A maid welcomed them in.
Polished floor. "Please watch your steps."
Brilliantly lit atmosphere; huge chandelier. Well placed decorations; elegant. "Welcome," Reinhard said. His smile as radiant as ever. "Subaru, and Lady Emilia." He didn't have his uniform on. Just plain clothes, yet elegance leaked.
"It is great to see you again, Sir Reinhard; we're glad to be here," Emilia gently bowed her head.
"Have you had breakfast yet?"
"Yes," Subaru said. "Roswaal insisted."
"I see… then how about some tea?"
"Of course," Emilia said.
"Splendid." Reinhard glanced at the maid and she left immediately. Meanwhile, he turned back to Subaru. "Come, follow me."
"He looks good," Emilia whispered.
"Yeah," Subaru whispered back.
"I suppose he's finally moved on."
"I sure hope so," Subaru whispered.
The three moved to the backyard garden. The maids brought some tea and biscuits and while Emilia sipped away, the two men just remained quiet. The unusual atmosphere struck Emilia a little odd but she said nothing.
"Oh yeah, Subaru, that item you wanted the other day, it has arrived."
Subaru paused for a brief second but smiled. "Oh, has it?"
"Yes… umm Lady Emilia, I understand it is rude of me but would you excuse us two for a moment? We shouldn't take long."
"I suppose it's something you two don't want to show me," Emilia sighed. "Alright." Her birthday was close, Subaru had probably asked Reinhard to fetch something… or so she thought.
Both Reinhard and Subaru left. Emilia sipped her tea.
"Don't you think Subaru has been acting odd," Puck said.
"All of you are acting odd… I can't believe you told him about my period…"
Puck laughed. "It's best to test whether he's grossed out by your bodily changes."
"Why?"
"Because if he is, then he isn't fit to be with you." Puck's face darkened, his brows creased and he glared. "Anyway," he was immediately back to his cheery side. "I do hope they're not doing anything naughty in there," he smirked.
"Oh please," Emilia rolled her eyes. "They're both men. Of course, they won't do anything." She hmphed!
"But you know Lia, sometimes boys also-"
"Enough!" Emilia shoved the cat right back into the gem and finished her tea. But she did get slightly curious about the boys. Just what were they up to? Just what kind of gift was Subaru going to give her this time?
So… she went back in. Reinhard should have been in his office.
There weren't any guards around and no maids either. A little odd.
"MMgh!"
What was that?
She could have sworn that sounded like-
Emilia didn't want to peek but the door was slightly open and…. Huh… Emilia gulped, watching through the small gap in the doorway.
Watching Reinhard's finger wiggle inside Subaru. Her dear Subaru. And him moaning….
"Huh…"
"Don't make a sound," Puck whispered. "I had a feeling but I didn't think they were… Lia you're-"
Emilia's eyes moistened. Her heart wrenched, as though crushing in its own weight. A deep… deep sob leaked out and then she walked away.
Slowly.
