Chapter 3 - Chapter Two: Shadows in Broad Daylight

The morning started with a bang. Literally.

The front door flew off its hinges.

James sat calmly on his mattress, watching the door thud against the wall. Dust rained from the ceiling. Dudley screamed.

And then came the voice.

"Sorry 'bout that," came a booming, unmistakably cheery voice. "Bit strong fer these Muggle doors."

James tilted his head, Force senses already brushing against the newcomer's mind.

Warmth. Simplicity. A gentle but surprisingly fierce loyalty. He recognized the emotional footprint immediately—Rubeus Hagrid.

Petunia let out a shriek. Vernon puffed like a toad.

James stood up, smoothed out his hand-me-down shirt, and walked out of the cupboard like a shadow gliding across still water.

Hagrid's eyes landed on him.

"Harry! There yeh are! Yeh look just like yer dad."

Not quite, James thought. But I'll play the part for now.

He gave a careful smile.

[New Quest: Enter the Magical World]

Accompany Hagrid to Diagon Alley

Retrieve school supplies

Visit Gringotts

Reward: +200 XP | +50 Credits | Hidden Unlocks

[Force Sense Check – Passive]

Emotional reading: Target is truthful, loyal, and unlikely to deceive.

Status: Harmless. Safe.

James's eyes narrowed slightly. So far, so good.

He followed Hagrid past the protesting Dursleys, throwing Vernon a look that made the man stop mid-rant. Fear, James noted, was a delicious thing when used properly.

They entered through the Leaky Cauldron, and even with memories of both Earth and magic, James couldn't help but be impressed.

Diagon Alley shimmered with enchantment. Buildings leaned at impossible angles. Cauldrons boiled over with no fire beneath them. Owls swooped overhead. Wizards bustled, robes flaring.

But to James, it was noise. Spectacle. A carnival.

Power, he thought, wasn't in the show. It was in the understanding of the rules—and how to break them.

And he had more than one rule-bending tool now.

[Alert: Force Signature Masked]

Magical detection systems in this environment cannot perceive Force energy.

Status: You are undetectable through magical means.

Note: Alignment signatures (Light/Dark) do not register to magical wards, detection spells, or Legilimency.

James froze in place, letting the crowd flow around him.

"…Oh."

He turned slowly, eyes scanning the street—Aurors, shopkeepers, street wizards. Not one of them gave him a second glance.

[Hidden Trait Discovered: Force Anomaly – Shadowborn]

You are considered a magical anomaly. Your actions through the Force do not register on trace detection systems.

Implication: The Unforgivable Curses cannot be traced when used via the Force.

A shiver ran down his spine—not of fear, but of opportunity.

No trace. No wand. No consequences.

He could cast the Killing Curse with a thought—via Force Drain or Force Choke—and no one would know.

Alignment Shift: +1 Dark Side

Trait Evolved: "Cold Rationality" – You gain resistance to guilt-based status effects and manipulation.

His smile didn't reach his eyes as he turned back to Hagrid.

"Let's visit the bank."

Gringotts

The goblins were sharp. Cold. Efficient. But to James's Force senses, they were predictable.

The ride to his vault was loud, fast, and rough. Dudley would've thrown up. James just clenched the rail and mentally opened the System Menu.

Ollivander was just as creepy as he remembered, even more so now that James could feel his fascination oozing like oil.

When the wand chose him—11 inches, holly, phoenix feather—James felt it hum… but it was nothing compared to the lightsaber hidden in his Inventory.

Still, appearances mattered.

He accepted the wand with a small bow.

later that night

He sat on the bed, robes folded beside him, system humming gently in his mind.

He had:

A wand for appearances.

A saber for battle.

Force Push, unlocked.

Dark Side affinity, completely invisible to wizardkind.

He stared out the window at the glowing wizarding world beyond.

They had no idea what he was.

No one did.
