The golden grass swayed in the warm wind, each blade shimmering in the eternal sunlight of Kaelthar's personal dimension. It was a place that knew no decay, no passing of hours—only the will of its master shaped the flow of time.
Yasaka stood barefoot at the center of the field, her long tails swaying slowly, her gaze fixed on the man before her. The air here was thick with divine energy, each breath a subtle test of will.
Kaelthar, in his true body, regarded her with the same calm intensity he always did. His clone lingered off to the side, ready to step in when needed, but for now it was just the two of them.
"Yesterday," Kaelthar said, his voice carrying easily across the still air, "you told me you wanted to become stronger."
Yasaka nodded once. "I meant it. Every word."
"Then today," he said, taking a slow step forward, "you begin for real. What you've done until now—meditation, refining your youjutsu, strengthening your body—was only the foundation. Today, we search for your path to godhood."
Her amber eyes stayed locked on him, but she lowered herself into a seated position without hesitation, the grass bending beneath her. Closing her eyes, she stilled her breathing.
Kaelthar's clone moved behind her, hands resting lightly on her shoulders to guide the steady flow of her aura. The true Kaelthar paced around her, his words deliberate.
"You already know yourself better than most," he said. "Your instincts are sharp. Your heart is steady. But there is still a wall in front of you—the barrier between mortal will and divine essence. Until you break it, you will never ascend."
Her focus deepened.
"To become a god, Yasaka, you must know your concept—your truth, the unshakable principle that shapes your power. Without it, your strength will remain hollow. With it, you will never break."
She inhaled deeply, refining the divine air within her, feeling her energy compress, becoming heavier and denser. Visions flashed in the darkness behind her eyes—Kunou's laughter, the familiar streets of Kyoto, the MC's presence at her side. She saw herself protecting them all.
The glow of her aura faltered. The vision broke apart.
Her eyes opened sharply, her breath uneven. "I… lost it."
Kaelthar's tone was steady. "You touched it. That is not failure. But your heart hesitated. That hesitation is your wall."
Her fingers curled into the grass. "Then I'll break it."
He smiled faintly. "Good. Now stand."
The Sparring
She rose to her feet, tails curling behind her.
"This will be different," Kaelthar said. "Meditation builds understanding. But understanding must be tested."
He gestured for her to come. "Hit me."
Her lips curved in a faint smirk. "Don't regret saying that."
The wind shifted as her aura flared, golden foxfire spilling into the air. She moved—fast, a blur of tails and claws—but Kaelthar was already gone from where she struck, his form flickering just out of reach.
Again and again, she tried—lashes of foxfire, rapid strikes, bursts of spiritual energy—but each attack met only empty air. He moved with no wasted effort, sometimes simply stepping aside, sometimes redirecting her momentum with a flick of his wrist.
"Too wide," he said as he parried her next strike, "your openings are obvious."
She tried to tighten her attacks, shifting angles mid-strike, but he was there before she even moved.
"You telegraph your intent," he added, sliding behind her without a sound.
Her tails lashed at him, forcing him back a step, but his expression didn't change.
Minutes turned into an hour. Sweat ran down her neck, her breathing heavy. Every time she thought she'd caught him, she found only empty space.
Finally, she staggered back a step, chest heaving. "You're… impossible to hit."
"No," he corrected, "you simply haven't learned to see."
Her brows furrowed.
"You fight like someone who has power to spare," he explained. "That makes you predictable. If you want to bridge the gap between your level and mine, you must make every movement count. Precision over force. Intent over speed."
She tightened her fists. "Then let's go again."
And they did. Again and again, until the sun had shifted across the eternal sky. Little by little, she began to adjust—shorter movements, sharper angles, her attacks coming with fewer tells. She still didn't land a decisive blow, but Kaelthar nodded once in approval.
"Better. Still far from godhood, but closer than you were this morning."
Resuming the Meditation
When they stopped, Yasaka sank back into the grass, closing her eyes once more. Her body ached, but her spirit felt sharper. Her aura steadied into a golden glow that wrapped around her like warm silk.
Kaelthar stood nearby, silent.
Inwardly, however, he was far from still. His cosmic awareness was spread thin across countless points in reality, threads of perception searching for any trace of Vorath's other fragments. Even as he stood watching Yasaka's progress, part of his will combed through dimensions, scanning the subtle vibrations of existence for the faint echo of that corrupt presence.
Nothing… yet. But the search never stopped.
If I find even one more fragment, he thought, I'll erase it before it has a chance to root itself.
His gaze returned to Yasaka. She sat perfectly still, her breathing slow, the glow of her aura rising and falling in time with her heart.
She was strong—Satan-class in this world's measure. Stronger than most beings could ever dream. And yet, godhood was something else entirely. He knew she would get there, but only one step at a time.
Yasaka's voice broke the quiet. "I'm not going to stop, you know. Not until I'm standing where you are."
His lips curved faintly. "Then you'd better be ready to walk a long road."
"I am," she said simply. "For Kunou. For the life I want to protect. For the future… I want to share with you."
The sunlight caught her hair, turning it into a sheet of molten gold. She looked calm, but he could feel the fire beneath her composure.
She had the will. Now, she only needed the concept that would define her.
And when she found it, Kaelthar knew… the wall in front of her would shatter.
