Chapter 50 - Because I’m a genius, and you’re an idiot

"I don't care anymore. Right now, the only thing I want is to kill you, and when I'm done, there won't be a single bone left of your body," the werewolf leader said, charging at Akira, no longer interested in continuing his monologue.

"Well, clearly conversation isn't my forte. I guess I just have to do it the normal way," Akira said as he raised his hand. A bright white magic circle formed in his palm, and a pulsating white light emerged from it.

The leader assumed it was an offensive light spell, so he tried to shield his eyes. But contrary to his expectations, it was just normal light. Seeing that the light didn't hurt him, the werewolf leader smirked.

"Hahaha. What on earth is this light for? Just a desperate attempt to blind me… huh?"

When he opened his eyes in confidence, realizing Akira's magic hadn't harmed him, he suddenly stumbled, as if he had lost his footing.

"What happened?" he muttered, staggering like a drunk. He didn't appear to be blinded by the light, so he couldn't understand what was happening. "Wh-what did you do, brat?"

"The eyes are organs that see objects, but they can also be said to be organs that receive light. This is a photo-induced seizure. It can be triggered by flashing lights. In severe cases, it causes convulsions, but in milder ones, it can make you feel dizzy or nauseous, like you just did," Akira explained, sounding like a professor.

"Convulsions...? Dizziness...? What did you do?" the leader asked, struggling to stand.

"In short, it's epilepsy."

"Epilepsy… What?"

"That's right. This isn't because a part of your brain is damaged, it's just that an abnormal reaction is occurring on its own. I once read in a study that dogs are more susceptible to photo-induced epilepsy, so I figured it might work on werewolves, too," Akira said, sticking his tongue out.

"Bastard, I'll kill you," the leader growled, struggling to overcome the effects. He closed his eyes and charged at Akira again.

"You think closing your eyes will save you? I wonder what you'll do if your ears fail you, too," Akira chuckled, snapping his fingers. A green-colored magic circle appeared, and an invisible pulse of sound waves burst from it. The leader dropped to the ground again, this time covering his ears in agony.

"What did you do now, bastard?!" the leader screamed.

"Oh, this? It's nothing," Akira said casually. "I heard that certain ultrasonic sounds are extremely irritating to dogs, you know like a dog repellent, so I just recreated that effect on a larger scale. It won't kill you, but it'll definitely piss you off for a while. And the best part? It's inaudible to anyone but dogs."

He grinned, already daydreaming. "You know, maybe I should patent it as a werewolf repellent. I bet it'd sell well. What do you think?"

"I'll tear you to pieces! I'll rip you apart!" the werewolf leader screamed as he stood back up, still struggling, and charged at Akira once more.

"Careful when you run, you might slip, you know," Akira said jokingly as he stepped forward. A yellow magic circle appeared on the ground beneath him, and the earth began to tremble slightly.

Suddenly, the werewolf leader collapsed. When he tried to stand, he fell back down, forced to kneel as his body refused to obey.

"Wh-what's going on? Something's wrong with the ground…? No, my body—it's not listening to me…?"

"I'm just shaking the ground a little with some earth magic. Nothing fancy," Akira replied casually. "Ever heard of a magic house? Or a madhouse? They go by different names, but you know, those attractions with slanted floors and spinning rooms? They mess with your sense of balance and can cause dizziness or nausea, depending on the person."

"You're doing something weird again…"

"This? It's nothing, really," Akira said with a serious expression. "Basically, my magic is disrupting your semicircular canals by shaking the ground just enough. As long as you live on Earth, you need a sense of up and down. If you can't tell which way is which, you can't move freely. Now, if you could fly, that would be a different story."

"I absorbed all your mana and evolved into my ultimate form, so why should I be at the mercy of such weak magic?!" the werewolf leader screamed, enraged by the situation.

"Because I'm a genius, and you're an idiot," Akira replied with a smug grin, clearly looking down on him. "You may have absorbed all my mana, but I'm still way smarter than you. That's something you'll never overcome, no matter what."

"RAAAAHHHH!" The werewolf leader could no longer hold back and lunged at Akira with full force. At their current distance, he'd reach Akira in seconds, and that was exactly what Akira was hoping for.

He knew he couldn't defeat this supercharged werewolf boss with normal magic. Not even the tricks he used against the lesser werewolves would work now. Without the barrier in place, the boss could freely use magic to shield himself.

And with two girls behind him whom he had to protect, Akira knew he had to finish this fight as soon as possible. The best magic to use in this situation was a powerful light spell, which is super effective against dark beings, but it required time to charge. Time he didn't have… unless he bought it with low-mana stalling spells until the right moment arrived.

As the werewolf leader closed the distance, Akira quietly began charging his strongest light magic. All he had to do was wait for the perfect moment, then strike him down in a single blow.

But just as he was about to unleash it, he heard a scream behind him. He turned and saw the girls crying out in terror as a new werewolf lunged toward them.

It must have been hiding in the shadows all this time, waiting for the right moment to strike. A backup… or maybe just a coward looking for an opening.

Now, Akira had two choices: kill the werewolf leader charging at him… or save the girls by killing the new attacker. Either they die, or he does.

Without a moment of hesitation, he launched the light javelin at the werewolf attacking the girls. It pierced its chest and killed it instantly.

But Akira knew the cost of that choice.

He was never the kind of person to value his life over others. To him, their lives were always more important. So, the choice had been simple.

"I should have known things wouldn't go according to plan in this anime-like world… Let's just hope I don't die from this instantly."

Those were Akira's final thoughts as the werewolf leader's hand plunged into his chest, and everything turned to black.
