Chapter 349 - Chapter 347: Don't Ask, Just Say It Was a Gas Explosion

Back in his past life, Haseo had spent some time as an astronomy enthusiast.

You can't really get the scale of the universe just by imagining it—you've got to see it for yourself. The mysteries of celestial bodies go beyond what Earthbound people can perceive, and only endless curiosity keeps reaching out toward an infinite number of mysteries.

Anyway, Haseo had once studied Jupiter and seen the Great Red Spot in a past life—something that left a deep impression.

So what started with curiosity became admiration—and that admiration led to a clumsy attempt at imitation.

As for the result of this imitation—the current situation—can be summed up in one sentence…

The Six-Tails blew up.

To elaborate a bit further…

It was done by Haseo.

In Hidden Mist.

Haseo's Five Elements Techniques were actually based on mutual generation among the Five Elements. Although chakra nature transformations are usually better described as relationships of suppression and being suppressed rather than the generating and restraining cycle Haseo was familiar with, thanks to his understanding of chakra natures, he eventually discovered how different chakra properties could promote each other after transformation.

This is clearly evident in the outcomes…

Namely, Kekkei Genkai, Kekkei Tota, and even Kekkei Mora.

Some kekkei users become powerful precisely because their dual-natured chakra overpowers regular elemental chakra—this kind of enhancement can be considered as mutual generation.

Haseo himself didn't possess a Kekkei Genkai. He couldn't use composite-element jutsu. However, he did have the unique trait of simultaneously containing all standard chakra natures within him. Using this ability, he began developing his own version of the Five Elements Techniques.

The principle wasn't as complicated as one might imagine—the effort mainly lay in exhaustive experimentation, mixing various chakra natures together randomly.

For example, he combined fire and wind chakra and labeled the result as "Scorch"—that's how Scorch Release was born. Following this method, he created Boil, Dissolve, Melt, Magnet, Explosion, Storm, Wood, Dust, and so on.

What came next was both simple and troublesome—attempting to combine all these mixed elements together. It wasn't just about getting the right ratios—it was also about the right order. Gradually, through trial and error, he aimed for internal consistency and maximum destructive effect.

Only after summoning the courage and patience of a great inventor, enduring countless dangerous trials, blowing up endless Shadow Clones, and experiencing near-death sensations dozens of times, did Haseo finally, by sheer luck, discover the legendary "Haseo Method."

Ah, now he understood why such extremely hazardous experiments should be carried out using Shadow Clones—if not, even with multiple lives, he wouldn't have enough to spare.

Fortunately, during the development process, the intensity of chakra used in this new technique wasn't nearly as high as that required for his Kinjutsu, so the Shadow Clones could withstand it… at least until they couldn't anymore—and then naturally, they exploded.

Only someone willing to go all out on himself can truly turn that ruthlessness onto others. After self-destructing over a thousand times, one could finally discover the method to destroy others.

Thanks to his unique nature and razor-sharp chakra control ability, Haseo eventually completed this extremely powerful set of Five Elements Techniques. Considering its final effect, Haseo even suspected it had something to do with the corrosive nature of his own chakra.

Simply put, this messy compound ninjutsu was essentially an explosive device. During the process of its energy undergoing complex and rapid transformations, it would trigger surrounding chakra to also convert into an extremely unstable form, which would then be assimilated, surpass its critical point...and ultimately detonate completely.

In other words, the actual power of this technique was determined by the target's chakra reserves. The more chakra a target had, the more devastating the blast.

This was also why Haseo insisted on releasing the tailed beasts before attacking—he wasn't sure about the results if he attacked the jinchuriki directly…after all, as soon as the jinchuriki died, the tailed beast's chakra inside him would disappear.

At present, even defenseless tailed beasts couldn't prevent this kind of explosion.

Therefore, you could say this ninjutsu was specially designed for dealing with large targets like tailed beasts. Otherwise, why would Haseo go through such trouble when fighting ordinary ninja? Couldn't he just stab them with a sword and save everyone the effort?

Of course, just like all of Haseo's techniques, this one also came with tremendous risks—that is, if it could ignite enemy chakra, it could just as easily ignite his own. So after forming the core of the technique, Haseo had to immediately cut off his own chakra supply, then inject it straight into the enemy's body—[Activation required absolute proximity — it could only detonate at point-blank range.]

Don't ask how Haseo knew his technique could ignite even his own chakra; this only proved his Shadow Clones hadn't died in vain.

Once this technique was successfully developed, Haseo immediately felt its immense power, and immediately realized it could be used for "dealing with" tailed beasts.

However, Haseo wasn't blindly confident—before encountering the Six-Tails, he hadn't actually tested it on any tailed beast yet since Konoha didn't happen to have any tailed beasts around. However…Konoha did have plenty of Nine-Tails' chakra available, and he had full access to and control over it.

So trying out a small experiment using the Nine-Tails' chakra wouldn't be a problem.

When that 'small test' worked, Haseo immediately moved forward with his invasion plan for Mist, confident enough to believe he could wrap up the war early.

If you break the strongest bones, wouldn't they finally fall into line?

That said, although both required using all five natures together, Haseo's Shōtenme Daikōhan was fundamentally different in concept from Third Hokage's Five Great Elemental Combination technique. The Third Hokage's attacks looked outwardly magnificent, possessing tremendous power—a standard area-of-effect attack—but its principle remained quite straightforward.

Haseo's attack, on the contrary, was intricately designed, emphasizing internal destruction, targeting only a single opponent (?)

It looked completely plain and unremarkable at first—just the kind of sneaky technique you'd expect from a ninja.

But once activated, it flared with blinding brilliance.

After the Six-Tails was attacked, its explosion kept expanding outward, and Haseo darted forward in panic like pigs and wolves stampeding.

If he got caught up in that kind of attack and died pathetically, now *that* would be hilarious.

As Haseo charged ahead, no one was trying to intercept or attack him anymore—everyone else was too busy fleeing for their lives to even think about him.

Then he spotted Jiraiya and Tsunade fighting against the Third Mizukage.

Oh right, because of that intense, blinding white light nearby, both sides had simultaneously stopped fighting. Neither could figure out exactly what had happened over there.

Instinctively, the Mizukage assumed this must be an attack launched by Konoha.

Meanwhile, Jiraiya suspected that Mist had gone so far as to destroy its own village just to drive them invaders out—burning our own home to the ground before you can do any further damage.

So ruthless… This is Mist?

"What are you all standing around for? Run! Run! Run!"

Haseo's figure dashed across the rooftop where Jiraiya and the others were fighting. Without slowing down at all, he grabbed Tsunade around the waist while she was still stunned and quickly sped away with her.

By the time Jiraiya figured out exactly what Haseo had said, the two figures had already vanished more than a hundred meters ahead.

"Send the emergency signal. The mission is complete. Let our people withdraw." Without caring how Jiraiya behind them might react, Haseo softly said to Tsunade once more.

Only then did Tsunade regain her senses. She reached into Haseo's ninja tool pouch behind her back and pulled out a special whistle, blowing it in a unique melody and rhythm.

The high-pitched whistle rang out across Hidden Mist, piercing through every corner of the village. It was Konoha's agreed-upon emergency retreat signal.

"Haseo… What have you done?"

After sending the signal, Tsunade asked Haseo this question.

Although she didn't understand what that glowing sphere lighting up the night sky was, her intuition told her it had something to do with Haseo, who had been acting suspiciously ever since entering the Mist Village alone.

Plus, while running, she could see the chakra seal mark already showing on Haseo's shoulder. Obviously, it had already been removed.

"Nothing particularly special, just lit a little sparkler… though I feel like it packed way more punch than expected—it's pretty dangerous. We should leave immediately."

Indeed, that expanding sphere of light was very dangerous, though theoretically, radiation had absolutely nothing to do with it.

"Hmm… come to think of it, chakra should count as some kind of biological energy… And biological energy should technically qualify as clean energy, right?"

No one could rein in Haseo once his mind took off on a tangent.

Just then, he saw Sakumo Hatake not far away, still locked in combat with a Mist Ninja while trying to retreat, dragging his large sword behind him… Seriously frustrating, why wasn't he running faster at a time like this? Was he addicted to fighting?

"Sakumo, are you just standing there because you don't know how to run?"

"You know what, maybe I should put Tsunade down and carry you instead?"

"Get a good look. This is a textbook princess carry."

These words immediately made Sakumo Hatake shudder. Without hesitation, he dropped the big sword in his hand and turned around to run.

The way he ran even seemed slightly faster than Haseo, who always claimed himself as the fastest ninja.

The ninja who had been fighting with Hatake also abandoned him and started looking for the Samehada that had been thrown away... Which proved how accurate the enemy's previous claim had been: the Samehada was indeed recovered, and Mist even got an upgraded brand new version.

Considering the current number of Samehadas Konoha possesses, it's inevitable that some might eventually be lost here and there, especially since the battleground is too chaotic and the Samehada isn't exactly something they must preserve at all cost. Still... Who could have expected that the very first Samehada would actually be discarded by Sakumo Hatake?

What a total loser...

Well, psychologically speaking, Sakumo really is quite weak.

He couldn't even handle such minor embarrassment.

P.S.:

There's a daily submission contest launched in the official reader community. Please check the pinned post for details. The top three winners will receive a certain amount of Qidian coins as a reward. As expected, the prize money comes in the form of Qidian coins.

Here comes a little story: At first, I thought these activity funds were earned through hard work chasing monthly ticket rankings, but later I found out they came from the deputy moderator's daily check-in efforts. Can you believe that?
