Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Painting a Picture of the Future

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Hiro was single-handedly shielding his entire family from every threat of unnatural death.

As long as he kept fighting — as long as he stayed alive — the people he loved would all live out their lives peacefully, growing old naturally.

Of course, the Assassination Space wasn't just a burden.

It had given him unimaginable returns.

In 22 years — over 8,000 days — Hiro had eliminated more than 8,000 targets.

His assassination techniques had long since evolved beyond comprehension.

At this point, even his great-great-grandfather, Maha Zoldyck — the family's terrifying old legend — likely didn't possess such vast experience or refined skill.

And it wasn't just his killing techniques.

Through countless cycles of death and rebirth, his mastery over Nen had been sharpened to perfection.

From the moment he'd first learned the four foundational principles — Ten, Ren, Zetsu, and Hatsu — to the more advanced applications like Shu, In, Gyo, En, Ken, Ryu, and Ko, Hiro had mastered them all.

Each was second nature to him now.

If there was anything he still lacked, it was aura reserves. That was something no amount of experience could shortcut — aura had to build up gradually, over time.

Hiro had fantasized more than once about receiving a reward from the Assassination Space that boosted his aura reserves overnight. But so far, no such prize had appeared. Whether an item like that even existed was still a mystery.

Even so…

Hiro was satisfied.

At his age, there was probably no one else alive who could wield every Nen technique with such mastery.

Even among the older generation, such versatility was rare.

After all, no one else had trained by dying thousands of times and perfecting their craft under the constant shadow of failure.

Most Nen users specialized in just one or two areas.Becoming a true generalist — a master of all techniques — was practically impossible for most.

But Hiro had done it.

His family's safety was secure. And his own strength was unquestionable.

Now… it was time to move forward with the next phase of his plan:

Transforming the Zoldyck family itself — and giving everyone a better life.

With the advantage of having read the original story in his past life, Hiro had already crafted targeted plans for each member of the family.

He flipped open his notebook, turning to a page he'd written and rewritten countless times.

[Milluki Zoldyck]

Nen Type: Manipulator

Hobbies: Hardcore otaku. Obsessed with collecting games, anime figures, and model kits.

Personality: Shrewd and surprisingly reliable — if he sees a chance to profit, he works diligently. But also a little… eccentric at times.

Specialties: Highly skilled with computers, hacking, video games, and crafting specialty items like bombs.

Weaknesses: By far the weakest in combat. Severely overweight. Poor stamina.

Long-Term Goal: Lose weight!

Solution: Tempt him with delicious food to spoil his palate — then use it as bait to make him willingly slim down.

Current Plan in Action: Send him out on more errands. Have him help snatch ingredients and seasonings during supermarket discount days — and let him endure the relentless training that comes with fighting off swarms of determined aunties.

Hiro couldn't help but smile faintly as he reread the last line.

He thought back to the panicked message Milluki had sent him earlier.

"Big brother, save me! The old ladies are terrifying!"

Hiro chuckled quietly to himself, already imagining the scene.

Oh, Milluki… this is just the beginning.

So far, Hiro's plan was going smoothly.

And it wasn't just Milluki.Every member of his family had their own page in his notebook — their own plan.

Hiro flipped to the next sheet.

[Killua Zoldyck]

Nen Type: Transmuter

Hobbies: Snacking, gaming, skateboarding

Personality: Mercurial and prone to lying; as unpredictable as a cat. Outwardly aloof, but actually a little shy.

Specialties: Exceptional physical abilities, excellent assassination skills, sharp thinker with a vivid imagination.

Weaknesses: Emotionally unstable at times, easily loses control; impulsive and overly concerned with appearances.

Long-Term Goal: Help him figure out what he truly wants — and learn to just be himself.

Planned Approach: Take Killua with me to participate in the Hunter Exam and help him meet Gon and other good friends.

Personal Note: This big brother also wants to join the protagonist's group!

Of course, as Hiro's all-time favorite character in his previous life, his mischievous little brother Killua was at the very top of his priorities.

Hiro had already decided: he would absolutely take the Hunter Exam alongside Killua.

Being a killer? That was just a profession. But being a Hunter?

That was a hobby.

The world of Hunters was vast and wild — filled with rare beasts, mysterious lands, ancient ruins, and untold wonders. It would be a lie to say Hiro wasn't tempted to see it all for himself.

What's more, after enduring the daily grind of the Assassination Space, heading out on an adventure or two sounded like a much-needed change of pace — good for the body and the mind.

So why not do both? Why not protect and improve his family while also chasing a little excitement of his own?

To Hiro, that was his ultimate goal:To be the best big brother he could possibly be — while living life to its fullest.

The thought lit a quiet fire in his chest. Even calm, collected Hiro couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement as he imagined it.

But…

There was still one problem he couldn't ignore.

A problem he'd have to solve before he could enjoy any adventures with a clear conscience.

The image of his youngest sister, Alluka, came to mind — her innocent smile, her wide, shining eyes — and Hiro's heart tightened.

And with her, of course, came the thought of Nanika.

Hiro sighed.

I have to find a way to fix this. I can't let her stay locked up forever.

He couldn't stand the thought of Alluka spending her whole life treated like a dangerous object instead of a cherished member of the family.

At the very least, she deserved the freedom to move around the house like everyone else.

Of all the things on his to-do list, this was the one that felt most urgent — and most important.

Unfortunately… he didn't have a solution yet.

Thanks to his Oath and Restriction, none of his family members could die an unnatural death anymore — and he was fairly certain even Nanika's power couldn't bypass that.

But telling the others about the Oath was out of the question.

That would only make things worse.

A nearly-immortal ability like his… if someone like Illumi ever found out about it? He'd probably take it as a license to cause chaos just because he could.

No, Hiro had to find another way.A way to prove to his family that Nanika was harmless… without revealing the truth about the Oath.

After all, the reason Silva kept Alluka locked away was because he believed her power was a threat to the entire family.

But how could Hiro convince him otherwise?

He couldn't exactly go to Silva and say, "Hey, don't worry — we're tough. Nanika definitely can't kill us. Here, watch: I'll throw Milluki off a cliff, and you'll see he's fine!"

That image popped into Hiro's head, and he couldn't help but laugh out loud.

The taxi driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror, curiosity finally getting the better of him.

"Hey, buddy. I've been watching you smile to yourself this whole ride. What're you looking at? Some kind of funny novel or something?"

Hiro almost groaned to himself.

Why are all taxi drivers so nosy?

Suppressing his amusement, he flashed a polite smile.

"Nothing like that. Just… some drawings I made for my family."

The driver raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

"Oh yeah? Wanna show me?"

Hiro just chuckled under his breath.

Thanks to a skill book reward he'd once drawn called [God-tier Painting Skill], his artwork was easily world-class.

Sometimes, when he was feeling hopeful about the future, he couldn't help but pull out his notebook and sketch little scenes — snapshots of what he imagined his family could one day become.

Happy.Together.Free.

And those sketches? They were worth more to him than any reward.

At that moment, the taxi rolled to a stop at a busy intersection.

The light was red, and traffic was heavy — it would be a while before they could move again.

"Well, since I've got to wait for the light anyway," the driver said, grinning mischievously, "let me have a look!"

He clearly had no shame about leaning into his nosy streak, fully embracing his role as a gossipy middle-aged man.

Hiro chuckled softly, then flipped his notebook around so the driver could see.

Page by page, he let him take it in.

The first drawing:

It showed Maha and Zeno, the two oldest men in the family, sitting in the courtyard playing a game of chess.

Thanks to Hiro's god-tier painting skill, the scene needed no explanation.

The bald, beady-eyed old man — Maha — was caught blatantly cheating, yet refused to admit it, while the white-haired Zeno sat stiffly, silently counting each piece with deadly precision, determined to catch him in the lie.

The driver burst out laughing.

"Handsome, you're a painter? Incredible! You're way better than some so-called top-tier manga artists. Even one page is so full of life — and funny, too!"

Hiro only smiled faintly and turned to the next page.

This one showed Silva and Kikyo out shopping at a mall.

Kikyo clung to Silva's arm, beaming as she pointed at yet another clothing store ahead.Meanwhile, Silva's arms sagged under a pile of shopping bags, his expression a perfect mix of shock and resignation — the kind of face that silently screamed, "You're still buying?!"

The driver chuckled knowingly.

"Ahaha, those two must be your parents. I get your dad's expression. Men understand each other, eh? And your mom — wow, so fashionable! Those glasses she wears? Pretty high-tech style!"

The next page:

It showed Killua and Milluki sitting cross-legged in front of the TV, battling it out in a video game, while Illumi stood behind them, watching silently.

Killua, of course, was winning handily — a smug, taunting smirk on his face as he threw glances at Milluki, who was drenched in sweat, hunched forward, frantically trying to find a way to turn the tables.

And behind them, Illumi stood with his arms folded, his blank eyes somehow managing to convey his unspoken sarcasm: "You're going to lose anyway. Just die already and let someone else play."

The driver's smile softened as he stared at the page.

"Ah… your younger brothers? Seeing this really takes me back. Makes me think of the happy times playing games with my big brother when we were kids."

Perhaps Hiro's drawing was simply too good — the emotions in it almost tangible. The driver's eyes shimmered faintly, as if he'd stumbled onto an old, cherished memory.

Finally, Hiro turned to the last page.

It showed Alluka and Nanika standing on either side of Kalluto, helping the youngest Zoldyck try on a beautiful kimono in front of a mirror.

Alluka and Nanika wore matching wide-eyed expressions of admiration, their faces lit with delight as they flanked their sibling. And Kalluto — though visibly trying to appear reluctant — couldn't quite hide the shy little smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

The driver let out a low whistle.

"Wow… your family's huge! Three cute little sisters too? Must be lively at home, huh?"

Hiro finally spoke this time, his smile calm but warm.

"Not quite. Those are actually two younger brothers and a little sister who stays with us."

The driver blinked in surprise, then chuckled awkwardly.

"Oh! Ahaha… guess I'm just too old to keep up with you young folks' fashion anymore."

Then he tilted his head, suddenly thoughtful.

"But, hey… why aren't you in any of these drawings?"

At that, Hiro paused, staring down at the closed notebook in his hands.

Then, slowly, he tucked it back into his coat pocket and smiled — a quiet, contented kind of smile.

"Because," he said simply, "I'm the one holding the brush that paints the picture of their future."
