"You all wait here. I'm going into the village to take a look first."
Leaving these words behind, Hatake Kusuo, carrying his sword, slipped into the village alone. The streets were not crowded at this time. Kusuo chose a suitable vantage point and began to secretly observe the movements of everyone in the village. After some time, he discovered something shocking.
Previously, it was difficult to even find a single Jonin in the Hidden Star Village. But now, looking at the village, almost every ninja seemed to have reached that level.
"What in the world is going on in this village?" Kusuo muttered to himself.
In the original story he remembered, the Hoshikage (Star Shadow) was not only weak but was also killed by others. But the current Hoshikage was a different story. Even from his position inside the village, Kusuo could clearly feel a powerful energy flowing into the village from a remote location where the meteorite was stored.
However, Kusuo had no interest in these matters. He only wanted to get his hands on the meteorite and destroy it, as that was the only way to completely lift the curse from Shion.
Although Kusuo's current strength was immense, he knew that the Star Village was still a ninja village, and it was best to avoid harming innocent people. Yet, this village was different from others. It was very small; if a real battle broke out, the villagers would surely suffer.
Kusuo began searching the village for any information about the meteorite.
"Send more men to the training chamber, quickly!"
"Yes, sir!"
Two ninja immediately responded to the order. From their conversation, Kusuo deduced that the meteorite he was looking for was likely in this "training chamber."
He followed the two ninja and, sure enough, found a sphere pulsating with purple chakra inside a well-hidden cave.
"This should be it."
He closed his eyes and carefully sensed the power contained within it. As expected, he soon discovered a trace of Shion's mark on the object.
"Bastards," Kusuo cursed under his breath. But his words alerted the guards to his presence.
Kusuo quickly assessed the people inside. Apart from the two leaders who had power surpassing the Kage level, the others were mostly Jonin-level. What surprised him, however, was that he could sense their bodies were struggling to handle such immense power.
"Who are you? Why have you come here?" The Hoshikage had never met Kusuo before and had no idea who he was.
"Remove the marks of others from that meteorite. Immediately," Kusuo said coldly.
To his surprise, the Hoshikage simply sneered. "And why should I listen to you?"
With that, a powerful chakra erupted from the Hoshikage's body. Kusuo didn't want to get entangled with them. The meteorite was currently affecting Shion. Even though she held the Heart of Gelel, he was still worried.
Two Star ninja immediately stood on the meteorite and began forming a series of hand seals. The Hoshikage now looked down on Kusuo from above.
Kusuo let out a cold laugh. "Are you sure you want to fight me?" He glanced around. There were only about six people in the room, and all of them seemed to be in good condition.
The two ninja closest to him exchanged a look and nodded simultaneously. They both charged at him. Kusuo glanced at them and leaped lightly into the air. His left and right hands grabbed their foreheads and slammed them together forcefully.
Seeing the first attack fail, the Hoshikage quickly formed hand seals. "Mysterious Peacock Method!"
Kusuo swiftly drew his sword. "Sun Breathing, Fifth Form: Fire Wheel!"
With a loud BOOM, their attacks collided. The Hoshikage had now transformed into a state resembling a Tailed Beast, which surprised even Kusuo.
"How did you know the Star had been moved to this location?" the Hoshikage demanded, his eyes fixed on Kusuo. This operation was supposed to be a top-secret mission; even many within the Star Village itself were unaware of it.
Kusuo didn't answer. Gripping his sword tightly, he vanished from in front of the Hoshikage with a flicker. The Hoshikage's brow furrowed, and he immediately spun around to defend himself.
BOOM!
"Sun Breathing, First Form: Circular Dance!"
The Hoshikage was slightly surprised by Kusuo's reaction speed.
"Sun Breathing..."
When the Hoshikage heard Kusuo utter these words, a terrible premonition filled his heart. But by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late. Kusuo's blade had already pierced straight through his chest.
"Such skill for one so young!" a Jonin standing nearby remarked slowly.
Kusuo turned to face this man. From him, he sensed a sliver of a threat, a feeling he hadn't experienced in a long time. Instead of concern, Kusuo felt a surge of anticipation. If he could fight against such a strong opponent, perhaps he could finally max out his Yoriichi Tsugikuni template.
Kusuo gripped his sword with his right hand. Just as he was about to charge, the man's figure vanished on the spot.
"Hmm?" Kusuo scanned his surroundings warily, but there was no trace of the man.
As he approached the meteorite, however, he noticed two scrolls placed beside it. One was labeled "Yin," and the other, "Yang."
Yin and Yang scrolls? Seeing the names, he could guess that this affair was likely connected to the Akatsuki. But Kusuo knew his priority was to destroy the meteorite.
"Sun Breathing: Beneficent Radiance!"
With a tremendous BOOM, the Star Village's meteorite was completely destroyed by Kusuo. He grabbed the scrolls and immediately rushed out of the village.
"Kusuo!" Shion had been waiting outside the Star Village for a long time. If he had taken any longer, she was about to lead the Demon Slayer Corps in to storm the place.
