Chapter 99 - The Devil's Dilemma

The heavy doors to the Crimson Satan's office clicked shut. Grayfia stepped forward, her usual flawless composure lined with a rare, severe tension. She quickly and precisely relayed what she had discovered in the human realm—the abandoned house, the rogue status, and Shukaku's absolute lockdown.

Sirzechs Lucifer leaned back in his leather chair, the warmth of the tea entirely forgotten. His blue eyes darkened as his mind raced through the geopolitical chessboard, instantly connecting the dots.

"He could have gone to only one place," Sirzechs murmured, his voice laced with dread.

"The Naberius Clan estate," Grayfia confirmed. "According to his past behavior with the Manji and the vampires, Jin Kazuma does not play games of attrition. He prefers to hit the enemy headquarters directly."

Sirzechs slammed a fist onto his mahogany desk, rattling the teacup. "It's good we found out about this before things got completely out of control. We can still contain this. Let's get that bastard before he starts a civil war!"

Grayfia didn't move. "We cannot, my Lord. It is time for the Asgard delegation to arrive. The summit is starting. We have to collect Rias and the others immediately, otherwise we will be late to receive the All-Father."

Sirzechs's mood instantly soured, his demonic aura flaring violently for a fraction of a second. "That brat has to lose his shit exactly at this moment?!"

He stood up, pacing behind his desk. "If he actually fights the Naberius Clan on their home turf, it's going to be a complete shitstorm, regardless of who wins."

"Does Jin even have a realistic chance of winning against an entire pillar of the Great King Faction?" Grayfia asked skeptically.

"We don't know," Sirzechs admitted, rubbing his temples. "We have never seen his absolute limits. But that monstrous regeneration of his will keep him alive long enough to do plenty of damage."

"And if he exhausts himself and is killed by the Naberius," Grayfia pointed out the fatal flaw, "it will create an immediate, catastrophic strife with the Shinto faction."

"Exactly," Sirzechs growled. "Look at what he did. By creating distance, severing his ties, and having his own subordinate declare him an Enemy of the State, he practically gave his people political immunity. If the Great King Faction tries to retaliate against Kuoh because of Jin's actions, they will be attacking a 'neutral' zone that has formally disavowed him."

Grayfia nodded, seeing the terrifying brilliance of the teenager's trap. "And his subordinate, Shukaku, is now the Prime Minister of the Japanese Underworld. If Devils attack Shukaku in retaliation, plus Jin dying at the hands of the exact people who murdered Amaterasu's Shrine Maiden... it would put the Shinto Pantheon in situation, to take action against us."

"Do we increase border security? Do we anonymously inform the Naberius Clan to raise their shields?" Grayfia suggested, trying to find a tactical out.

"We can't," Sirzechs rejected the idea immediately. "If we warn them, the Great King Faction will instantly know we have been secretly investigating them. I am already walking a tightrope making these peace treaties with the Angels and Gods. If the King factions realize I am moving against them internally, it will trigger a civil war before the ink on the treaties is even dry."

"But the alternative is worse, Sirzechs-sama," Grayfia urged.

Sirzechs stopped pacing. He looked out the window toward the sector of the Underworld where the Naberius estate lay hidden.

"Are Ajuka or Falbium available?" Sirzechs asked, referring to his fellow Devil Kings.

"No," Grayfia replied. " We cannot even deploy our own peerages right now ."

Sirzechs closed his eyes, accepting the bitter, undeniable reality of his position. He was the most powerful Devil in existence, and he had been completely checkmated by fate. He couldn't act without destroying the peace he had bled to build.

"Then we can only conduct our meeting with Asgard," Sirzechs said, his voice heavy with reluctant resignation. "And pray that Jin is late, or fails quietly."

Grayfia bowed her head in understanding. "Let us get to the meeting, then."

Far from the glittering spires of the capital, the Underworld was a harsh, unforgiving landscape.

The Naberius Clan estate was a sprawling, gothic fortress built into the side of a jagged, purple mountain. The high iron gates were heavily warded, and elite guards patrolled the perimeter.

High above the southern gate, perched quietly on the twisted, dead branch of a demonic tree, sat a solitary black crow.

The crow watched the patrol routes with unnatural, calculating intelligence. Then, with a soft poof of white smoke, the Transformation Jutsu dissolved.

Jin Kazuma landed silently on the thick branch, his dark clothes blending perfectly with the eternal twilight of the Underworld. He looked down at the massive compound, his Sharingan already spinning to life, mapping the magical signatures below.

He knew a stealth infiltration all the way to the Clan Head's bedchamber was impossible. The Naberius Clan Leader was infamous beast tamers. They were responsible for taming the terrifying Cerberus that guarded the Hell. Because of their deep, magical affinity with demonic beasts, almost every guard had formed a pact with a hellhound or a shadow-wolf.

His scent-masking jutsus would only last so long against a creature whose literal existence was defined by its sense of smell.

The moment I spill blood, the hounds will smell the iron in the air, Jin calculated, his face an emotionless mask. Stealth is a timer. The goal is maximum casualties before the alarm is officially raised.

Jin brought his hands together, his fingers blurring through a single, precise seal.

He didn't need the feral rage of Wolverine right now. He needed the silent, absolute lethality of the Uchiha.

"Shunshin no Jutsu," Jin whispered.

The leaves on the dead branch rustled slightly. In the blink of an eye, Jin's body flickered and completely vanished into the shadows, crossing the heavily warded perimeter and descending into the Naberius compound like a ghost.
