Chapter 44 - Church

The moon hung like a silver coin in the velvet sky, its pale light draping the old church in an eerie glow. Damp earth and mildew thickened the air, the kind of atmosphere where whispered prayers once lingered but now only tension remained.

Outside the perimeter, Rias Gremory hovered effortlessly above the ground, her crimson hair fanning like a banner against the night. Her familiar had already alerted her to an approaching presence—a car cutting through the silence, heading straight toward the church.

Her peerage—Issei, Kiba, and Koneko—were already inside, locked in battle.

The car skidded to a halt in a harsh screech of rubber on gravel. From it stepped Jin. He shut the door with deliberate weight, his gait sharp, purposeful.

Rias turned, her eyes narrowing as recognition flared. First surprise, then irritation. Descending a little from her perch, she demanded, her voice slicing through the dark:

"Jin. What are you doing here?"

He lifted his gaze lazily, studying her figure in the air. "Just some business." His lips twitched with dry humor. "And you might want to come down—your panties are in broad view."

A faint smirk tugged at Rias's mouth despite the sharp look in her eyes. She descended slowly, her aura curling faintly around her like smoke. "Oops. My bad. Now," she pressed, annoyance threading her tone, already guessing Jin is coming here with purpose "what business do you have with the Fallen? I told you not to stir trouble in my territory."

"And I told you to keep trouble away from me," Jin shot back, voice flat as stone.

Her aura flared hotter, a ripple of destructive magic warping the air. "If you've forgotten, I am the authority here."

A low, cynical chuckle slipped from Jin. "Authority? You can't even keep your own house in order."

That jab hit. The magic around Rias surged, trembling the earth underfoot. Jin, unmoved, flexed his hand. His knuckles cracked, then split, and claws slid from his fingertips with the wet sound of tearing flesh. Their gazes locked—hers burning, his cold. The night held its breath , wind blowing .

The tension broke when the a figure step from church doors . Akeno Himejima emerged, her long black hair glinting under the moonlight, a smile soft but edged with something knowing.

"President," she said lightly, almost teasing, "the priest in the basement has been handled with Koneko and Kiba help. And Issei fight is nearly over."

Jin's eyes flicked from Akeno back to Rias, weighing his options. His instinct screamed to keep the standoff, but his mind turned practical. Escalation here wasn't in his interest. Not tonight.

"One of the Fallen burned down my house," he said simply.

Rias's aura dimmed at once, though her pride held her posture rigid. "See? Communication isn't that hard," she muttered, brushing a lock of crimson hair behind her ear. "You always carry that grumpy, hard look." She turned without waiting for reply and strode back toward the church. "Fine. You can come in."

Akeno trailed after her, but not before pausing. She glanced over her shoulder at Jin, her lips curling into a suggestive smirk. With a slow, deliberate motion, she beckoned him forward.

Jin stood for a heartbeat longer, watching the pair vanish into the church's shadow. A dry thought crossed his mind, tinged with bitter amusement:

"Well, look at this. Following a Devil into a church. Not many can claim that."

The air inside the dilapidated church was a mess of lingering magical energy and the acrid stench of burned flesh. Rias, Akeno, and Jin moved through the wreckage, their footsteps soft against the debris. They came upon a scene frozen in the aftermath of a battle: a bruised Issei Hyoudou standing over the defeated form of Raynare.

Issei noticed Rias and immediately lit up. "Buchou…!"

Rias smiled softly, stepping forward with her usual calm, her voice carrying that practiced elegance. "You've done well, Issei. I believed in you from the very beginning…"

Jin, standing slightly off to the side, folded his arms and muttered under his breath, "Yeah, not listening to that."

Instead of intruding, he caught Akeno's eye and signed with simple hand gestures, I'll look around.

Akeno arched a brow and, with her own gestures, asked, What exactly are you looking for?

Jin hesitated, then pointed vaguely — wings, then exaggeratedly motioned a curvy figure.

He glanced over at Akeno, who noticed his silent cue. A look of curiosity, laced with playful mischief, flickered across her face. She gestured back, a simple, unspoken question: What are you looking for?

Jin, not wanting to interrupt Rias's grand speech, struggled to find a way to convey his meaning. He pointed at his own back, then at the sky, mimicking the shape of large wings, and cupped his hands in front of his chest.

Akeno's eyes widened with feigned innocence, and she unfurled her own bat-like wings, then looked down at her ample chest. She gave him a coy, knowing smile, as if to say, Me? You want me?

Jin's face went crimson. He broke into a series of frantic, precise hand movements—true sign language this time.

"Can you understand sign language with your devil abilities?"

Akeno, her smile softening with genuine amusement, returned the gestures with graceful ease.

"Yes, but we have to learn it to communicate back," she signed.

"So you can understand it, but you have to learn it to communicate back?" Jin signed, his face still warm with embarrassment.

Akeno gave a small nod. "Yes. Anyway, why are you looking for me?"

"No, no, not you!" Jin signed quickly, shaking his head. *"The Fallen with the big chest."

Akeno's smile turned into a teasing smirk. "Am I not enough?"

"Stop teasing," Jin signed, his frustration clear. "I want to check if she's really dead."

"She's in the basement," Akeno signed, finally dropping the act.

Just then, Kiba and Koneko joined them, their expressions turning to shock upon seeing Jin.

Their conversation was cut short by a, high-pitched voice.

"Buchou, who is that man?" Issei's voice echoed through the church.

All eyes turned to Jin, who in turn looked at Issei—the protagonist of this world, the Heavenly Dragon of this generation, with the potential to become the strongest.

Rias looked from Jin to Issei, her expression calm. "He is Jin Kazuma, a human fighter."

"What's he doing here?" Issei asked, his curiosity piqued.

"He came to kill Kalawanere," Rias explained, "but unfortunately, she's already dead."

"Oh, I see! Hey man, I'm Issei Hyoudou." Issei said, waving .

Jin gave a small nod. "Jin Kazuma."

"Cool, man,a human fighter " Issei grinned. "Who's stronger? Buchou or you?"

Everyone's eyes shifted to Jin. Even Rias tilted her head slightly, curious at his answer.

"Rias would win," Jin said simply.

Rias scoffed softly. "Don't be modest, Jin. You're an amazing fighter. I've seen you fight."

"I know," Jin replied. "But you have the advantage of air and your Power of Destruction. That tilts the balance "

Issei's eyes widened. "Oh, Buchou is praising you! You must really be a great fighter!"

Akeno, her deep eyes locked on Jin, her curiosity now a palpable force, asked, "What if those weren't a factor?"

Jin held her gaze, then looked back at Rias. "I still wouldn't be able to defeat her."

A wave of pride washed over Rias's face, her chest swelling slightly. Issei's eyes sparkled with admiration for his master.

Kiba, Koneko, and Akeno, however, remained silent, a knowing glint in their eyes.

Then Jin continued, his voice dropping to a low, serious tone. "But in a fight to the death, I would win."

Rias and Issei did a double take, staring at Jin with stunned eyes.

Kiba, Koneko, and Akeno suddenly tensed, sensing a genuine surge of killing intent emanating from Jin for a moment .

A beat of silence hung heavy — until Jin eased it with a shrug. "Of course, that's impossible with Rias's talent and destructive power. She's more than capable."

Issei quickly broke the tension with a bright, "Buchou, you're so cool!"

Rias exhaled softly, relief blending with pride.

Kiba and Akeno exchanged quiet glances, knowing the truth — Rias had talent but she dont train and Jin's growth is far too fast

Then Rias shifted her focus, sensing movement. Asia was stirring, her body glowing faintly from the bishop piece she'd placed within her.

"You can look if you want," Rias said to Jin, her tone gentler now. "I'll have people clean up later."

Then, turning back to her peerage, she instructed, "Asia is waking. Let's take her somewhere more comfortable."

Issei rushed to her side, lifting the girl in a princess carry and standing beside rias .

The rest gathered around Rias as she summoned a teleportation circle. With a flash of light, they were gone.

Jin stood alone in the quiet aftermath. He glanced at the fading glow of the circle, murmuring to himself, "That's really something… I should learn teleportation too."

Jin stood alone, looking at the empty space they had just occupied. "That's really cool," he muttered to himself. "I should try to learn how to teleport, too."
