Chapter 20 - Names on her lips, blood at the door

The moonlight pooled across the silk sheets, soft and silver.

Luciano lay on his back, one hand cradling the curve of Amethyst's belly, the other entwined with hers. The twins had finally settled after a flurry of kicks, and for a rare moment, it was quiet.

No alarms. No threats. Just them.

Amethyst turned slightly, the weight of seven and a half months pressing into her hips, her eyes tired but calm.

"What would you name them?" she asked softly.

Luciano blinked. "Now?"

She smiled. "I want to know what names live in your head when you touch me like that."

His thumb traced a slow circle on her stomach. "A girl and a boy?"

She nodded.

He exhaled, thinking.

"For a boy... maybe Adrian. It means dark one. Strong, sharp."

She raised a brow. "Dramatic."

"You married a mafia boss, amore, what did you expect?" he smirked.

She laughed quietly.

"And the girl?" she asked.

His voice lowered. "Serafina. After my mother."

Amethyst's eyes softened. "That's beautiful."

He pressed a kiss to her bare shoulder. "What about you?"

She smiled. "I always liked the name Elias. Or maybe Aria if it's a girl. It sounds like music."

Luciano was about to reply—

CRACK.

Glass shattered downstairs.

Their eyes locked.

Luciano was up in an instant, grabbing the pistol from the bedside drawer. Amethyst rolled to sit up, heart hammering.

"She's here," she whispered. "It's Sofia."

Luciano didn't question it.

He was already moving — silent, precise.

"Stay here," he ordered, voice cold again. The killer's voice. "Do not leave this room."

Amethyst's hand shot out, grabbing his wrist. "She's not here for you, Luciano."

He hesitated.

Then swore and crossed to the wardrobe, pulling out another weapon — a smaller one — and pressing it into her hand.

"Shoot to kill," he said. "No warnings. No mercy."

She nodded.

Then he vanished down the hall.

Amethyst's breath came fast and shallow as she waited, one hand on her belly, the other gripping the cold weight of the gun.

She counted the seconds.

Twenty-two.

Twenty-three.

Bang.

A gunshot from below.

Then—

The doorknob turned.

Amethyst raised the gun, arms steady despite her shaking heart.

But it wasn't Luciano.

It was Sofia.

Hair shorter. Eyes sharper. Gun in hand. Smiling like the devil had kissed her cheek and left a mark.

"Hello, Roomie," she purred.

Amethyst didn't lower the weapon. "How did you get past the guards?"

Sofia stepped inside casually. "I've been inside this house before, remember? Before you were even in his bed."

"Luciano will kill you."

"He can try. But I'm not here for him."

Her eyes dropped to Amethyst's belly.

"I'm here for them."

And just like that — the past and future collided.
