Chapter 74 - Volume 1: Chapter 75 - Mordred: So Poor, All I Have Left Is Money

The plane landed smoothly at a private airport in London.

Escorted by a luxurious black sedan, Mordred soon returned to her mansion in the suburbs.

The moment she opened the car door, a female secretary in professional OL attire with round-framed glasses perched on her high nose bridge, as if she had been waiting there all along, hurried forward to greet her upon seeing the girl's figure.

"Welcome back, my lady."

"Mhm. By the way, did anything happen while I was away?"

"Nothing major, but a lot of business matters have piled up."

"Tell me about them."

Holding the longsword wrapped in the Holy Shroud in one hand and her backpack in the other, Mordred walked past the landscape fountain in the front yard of the mansion, stretched lazily, and asked casually.

"Yes."

The female secretary nodded respectfully, hastily flipping through the report she was holding. Although rumors in the outside world said that the young lady beside her was just the heir to the Pendragon family, she, who knew some of the inside story, understood that the true master of the Pendragon family was this very girl.

"The Department of Modern Magecraft has invited you to a celebration banquet they are preparing for next month. After all, their academic city, [SLA], will be officially completed next month, and you were the one who funded its final construction. They hope you will be able to attend."

"That thing isn't finished yet? I remember investing in the Modern Magecraft Department several months ago, didn't I? Fine, just reply to them that I'll be there."

Mordred's expression became a little strange for a moment, but she quickly waved her hand as if she didn't care and gestured for the secretary to continue.

"Understood. The El-Melloi family wished to meet with you last week. It seems they intend to discuss the new, high-quality ore deposit you discovered in South America. It's highly likely they want to discuss a joint mining operation with you. Would you like me to reply with your intentions?"

"We'll see. Those guys probably aren't just after the ore deposit. They likely want to further their relationship with the Pendragon family. Let them wait for a while."

"Yes. Then... a report submitted by the Secret Relic Dissection Bureau states that due to varying degrees of damage to most of their excavation equipment from prolonged use, coupled with a decrease in the number of excavation personnel, the number of Cursed Bodies submitted recently may be slightly lower. They require your further assistance..."

"Heh, do those guys think I'm a fool? Or that the Pendragon family's money is easy to cheat? You know, that's not what they told me when I first sponsored them."

Mordred sneered, not breaking her stride as she spoke with a hint of dissatisfaction on her pretty face.

"Tell them directly to stop playing these petty tricks with me. At worst, I'll have that department shut down. I've long been disgusted by this business of locking people underground to dig for their entire lives like animals. When the time comes, I'll just replace it all with modern machinery. In the end, the Spirit Tomb doesn't belong to those guys anyway. If the people who founded the Mage's Association knew what today's magi have become, they'd probably jump out of their graves in anger."

The words she spoke were enough to make the vast majority of magi in the Mage's Association turn pale with shock, but in reality, the girl did indeed possess such power.

After all, the families behind the Twelve Lords of the Mage's Association, which maintained the current world of magic, had all, to some extent, received financial aid from the Pendragon family.

It could be said that even the Lords themselves had to pay close attention to the girl's attitude.

"Is there anything else? If not, have the kitchen prepare some food for me first. After all that commotion, I'm feeling a little hungry."

Mordred frowned, and just as she was about to head to the secret storage room to secure Durandal, the female secretary beside her suddenly spoke up.

"There is one last thing. The head of the Animusphere family had an appointment to meet with you. That person should be arriving in about an hour."

"Animusphere? Oh, it was about that... "

She recalled the young, silver-haired man with a side ponytail who had specifically sought her out at a Clock Tower banquet last month. At the time, Mordred hadn't thought much of it and had casually agreed to a future meeting.

Thinking about it now, for the Animuspheres, who generally stayed in the mountains and did not involve themselves in worldly affairs, to specifically seek out the Pendragon family was indeed a little strange.

"Fine. When that person arrives, take him to the living room first. I'm going to take a bath. Of course, don't forget to have the kitchen send over some food."

Reminding the female secretary, Mordred went straight upstairs to her room.

By the time she had finished her bath and temporarily quelled the hunger in her stomach with some food, it was just about time for her previously scheduled meeting.

"It has been a while, Miss Mordred."

In the living room, Marisbury Animusphere, dressed in a white suit, his demeanor proper and as elegant as a classical nobleman, greeted her with a gentle smile.

But the girl didn't have much time to beat around the bush with him. Mordred sat on the sofa with her legs crossed and said bluntly.

"Let's skip the pleasantries. Just state your purpose, Marisbury. Etiquette will only waste both our time."

"...That is indeed true."

Although he had heard from others that the heir of the Pendragon family had such a personality, Marisbury still couldn't help but give a wry, helpless smile.

"In that case, Miss Mordred, please take a look at this document first."

Taking a paper file from the briefcase he was carrying, he handed it to the girl. Marisbury then took a light sip of the red tea before him, waiting for the girl to finish reading.

A dozen or so minutes later, looking at the document in her hand, Mordred looked at the man opposite her with some uncertainty.

"[Simulated Global Environment Model - CHALDEAS]... So, you're planning to make a copy of the Earth?"

"To be precise, a Mystic Code that replicates the soul of the Earth. After all, the Animusphere family has always been verifying the hypothesis of whether celestial bodies possess a [soul]. And now, most of the theory has been perfected, with only the practical experiment remaining."

Marisbury answered unhurriedly, explaining patiently.

"And, you want the Pendragon family... to invest in this project?"

Looking at the girl's "why should I spend money to invest in this thing" expression, Marisbury smiled and said.

"Although I don't know where the rumor came from, I've heard that the Pendragon family has always been searching for something."

"And if [CHALDEAS] is successfully created, it can be used as an observation tool for planetary civilizations, and can even span a hundred years into the future. Of course, observing specific details will require some subsequent equipment and corresponding theoretical support. But with the assistance of this tool, the probability of the Pendragon family finding what they are searching for should also increase slightly. And more importantly, this is a means to verify whether civilization will still exist in the future."

Mordred raised an eyebrow. Although she had only glanced roughly at the document, which was hundreds of pages thick, some of the theories on it did seem to be able to achieve some of what the man had described.

However, she wasn't interested in the auxiliary functions the man mentioned. After all, when it came to observation, a certain half-incubus locked away in Avalon could basically replace this function.

But recently, Merlin's contact with her had become less and less frequent, and he had said that his sight seemed to be obstructed in this era. Plus, her own senses could only tell her that the person she was looking for should be around this era.

She was also slightly interested in the method of verifying the continued existence of civilization he had mentioned. Thinking of it as casually buying a lottery ticket to see if she would win—and knowing that if it didn't work out, she could always resell it for a high price—the girl thought for a moment, then looked at the man opposite her and said straightforwardly.

"Name your price. How much money do you need for the first phase of your experimental plan?"
