Chapter 6 - Echoes of Deception

The early morning sun cast a pale light over Jakarta, barely piercing through the thick haze of pollution and rain. Inside the hospital room, Dito's tiny chest rose and fell with the help of machines, his eyelids fluttering weakly.

Livia sat beside him, her head bowed, trembling. Her mind was a storm—fear, guilt, hope, and a burning desire to protect her brother at all costs. She clutched his small hand tightly, wishing she could turn back time, wishing she could change everything.

Reynaldi entered quietly, his face shadowed with exhaustion. His dark eyes scanned the scene before him, then settled on her.

"You should rest," he said softly. "You've been here all night."

She shook her head. "I can't. Not when he's like this."

He hesitated, then sat beside her, his voice low. "We're doing everything we can. But we need to find out who's behind this. Someone is orchestrating all of this—someone close to us."

Her eyes flickered with determination. "I want to know the truth. Whatever it takes."

Reynaldi reached into his pocket and pulled out a small device—an encrypted tracker. "I've been tracking some movements. I have a feeling that whoever is behind this is watching us. We're not safe yet."

Her jaw clenched. "So, what do we do?"

He looked at her with a mixture of resolve and concern. "We play their game. We gather intel. We find the traitor in our midst."

Her eyes widened. "You think it's someone inside the company?"

He nodded grimly. "It has to be. Someone who knows our routines, our weaknesses. Someone who's been feeding information to Hendra."

A flicker of suspicion ignited within her. "Could it be Rania?"

Reynaldi hesitated, then shook his head. "It's too soon to tell. But I want you to be careful. Trust no one."

Suddenly, her phone vibrated again. She looked at the screen—an anonymous message: **"They're closer than you think."**

Her stomach tightened.

"I'm starting to think whoever's behind this is watching us right now," she whispered.

Reynaldi's jaw tightened. "Then we need to move—fast."

---

**Meanwhile, in the shadows,** a figure watched from a dark alley. Clad in black, they raised a small device to their ear.

"Target acquired," a voice whispered. "They're vulnerable now. Proceed."

In the distance, a black car sped through the city streets, heading toward an unknown destination.

---

**Back at the hospital,** Dito's condition remained critical. The doctors worked tirelessly, but the mysterious attack had left everyone on edge.

Livia's heart ached as she looked at her brother. Her mind kept flashing back to the night before—the promise she made to herself to do anything for him.

Suddenly, a nurse entered quietly, holding a small envelope. She approached Livia and Reynaldi.

"This is from the hospital administration," she said softly. "It's urgent."

Livia took the envelope, her hands trembling. Inside was a letter—an anonymous note.

**"They're watching. Be careful."**

Her heart skipped a beat. She looked at Reynaldi, who read the note over her shoulder.

"This confirms it," he said grimly. "Someone is deliberately trying to destabilize us. We're running out of time."

Her eyes welled with tears. "I just want my brother to be safe. That's all I've ever wanted."

Reynaldi reached out, holding her hand. "We'll get him through this. And I swear—I'll find out who's behind all of this."

Her resolve hardened. "We need to act—now. Before it's too late."

---

**Later that evening,** Reynaldi met with his trusted confidant, a former intelligence officer named Arman. They sat in a dimly lit office, thick with cigarette smoke and tension.

"I've been digging into Lina's past," Reynaldi said quietly. "There are secrets buried deep. Secrets that could blow everything apart."

Arman leaned forward, eyes sharp. "What did you find?"

Reynaldi hesitated. "Lina wasn't just a victim. She was onto something. Someone was after her—someone who still wants her silenced."

Arman nodded slowly. "And that person… might still be active. We need to find out who's pulling the strings."

Reynaldi clenched his fists. "And I know Rania's involved. She's been acting strange lately—asking questions, making moves. I can't trust her anymore."

Arman's eyes darkened. "Then we have to be careful. Whoever's behind this isn't just after money—they want control. And they're willing to kill for it."

Reynaldi looked at the city lights outside. His mind was racing—trying to connect the dots, unravel the web of lies, and protect the only family he had left.

Because beneath all the chaos, he knew one thing for sure: **the shadows of the past were creeping closer, and danger lurked everywhere.
