Chapter 5 - Zombie King

She turned to look at the man, and he was horrified by the look in her eyes. Her original electric blue eyes were now a flaming combination of purple and red. The breeze blew away the strands of hair on her face making her look menacing.

She grabbed the man by the neck and lifted him off the ground.

"I may be little, but I'm not so stupid to not notice your deception. This rod is not worth two pieces, is it?" Her voice was low and threatening.

"No," the man said as tears streamed down his face. He was so scared that he started to shed tears like a baby.

She threw him unto the ground and walked away.

This is beyond amazing!) she shrieked.

What happened to me? I felt like an uncontrollable force. This never happened in my past life. Evelyn was curious about what this newfound power was.

As she walked back to the mansion, she spotted something unsightly. A little boy was being beaten to pulp on the ground by a couple of men.

(I feel a strange aura around him. Take him back to the mansion.) Bell shrieked.

What?! Why would I take some stranger with me? Evelyn asked puzzled.

(Just do it!) Bell was becoming quite agitated.

"Fine," Evelyn mumbled and walked to the boy who was lying like a dead fish on the ground.

"Hello," she said as she crouched down. The boy's face was covered in grime and dirt, his hair was like a bird's nest, and his clothes were tattered.

"Are you alright?" She asked as she poked his cheeks with a knife like nail.

The boy cleared his throat and opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He tried again and again, but he could make no sound. He looked at Evelyn for a while and tried to sit up, but he couldn't.

(Help him!) Bell scolded when Evelyn didn't move a muscle.

She pulled the glove off her hand revealing white slender fingers. "I haven't any medical skills, so I hope you take not a grudge to heart if I touch a place that hurts, okay?"

The boy gently nodded as Evelyn helped him sit up. She looked at him intensely and her right pupil turned purple. Hovering on top of his head were the words APOCALYPSE KING.

(Wow!! No wonder I felt a strange aura surrounding him. You have to get him on your side.) Bell said excitedly.

She helped the boy up and led him up the mountain. When they got to the gates of the mansion, a guard came up to her.

"My Lady," he said respectfully.

My Lady? The boy thought curiously.

"What is it?" Evelyn's tone was sharp and commanding. Her gaze made the guard shiver and feel like spiders were crawling on his spine.

The boy turned to look at her, and was shocked at how her voice could change from subtle, gentle and caring to sharp, flat, and cold.

"Duke Aldrich and his relatives are here. They're waiting for you," the guard said, bowed and bolted out of her sight.

She walked to the door of the main hall. "Is someone there?" She called and a couple of maids rushed to her.

"My Lady," they said.

"Take him to wash up," she dropped her cloak on one of the maid's hand and pushed open the door to the main hall.

The room that had been lively now turned a deadly silence as she walked in with echoing footsteps that made Amber feel mad.

"You're late," an old woman said. The old woman was Duke Aldrich's mother. She was a stern old woman in her mid sixties with wrinkled grey skin and white hair. She was wearing a plain white dress that made her look like she'd been thrown into a sack.

Evelyn turned to look at the woman. In her past life, this woman had become a zombie then. A sly smile crept onto Evelyn's face as she saw Duke Aldrich holding Amber's hand.

"Why are you here?" She asked calmly.

"Father agreed to my engagement with Julius," Amber shot back angrily.

"Oh?!" Evelyn asked as she sat on a chair and looked at her sister and Bridget.

"Look at this wonderful sight."

"We need your approval before we proceed with this marriage," Duke Aldrich's thick and bewitching voice resounded through the room.

"What if I say no?" She asked. Amber turned pale, but Julius was enjoying this. He had already taken a liking to Evelyn.

(Be careful. Crush this bastard's feelings before it leads to your downfall.) Bell warned.

A surge of anger rose through her heart. She felt like slapping this pervert of a duke who couldn't keep his hands off her.

"I can read from your expression, duke," she said as she stood up. "Killing you is like crushing an ant."

Julius's face turned pale and he cleared his throat. "Do you agree to this marriage?"

She was not going to make the same mistake again. "No," she replied firmly and left the hall.

"Your daughter is not of good character," Duke Aldrich's mother said and exited the hall.

"We'll get married, I assure you," Julius said to Amber before leaving the hall.

He walked up to the nearest guard with a smile plastered on his handsome face. He looked like his mother with black hair and the same bottle green eyes. "Excuse me, where has Your Lady gone?"

"Her quarters," the guard replied blandly without even turning to look at Julius's face. "East wing, last room on the left."

Julius walked through a hallway on the east wing. Large doors stood majestically, and the scent of lavender filled the air. Suddenly, the air turned cold and suffocating as he neared a large black door with dragons carved on it.

This must be it. He thought as he knocked on the door.

"I didn't know a prestigious duke likes to knock on females' doors. Wonders shall never end," a cold voice rang behind him. He stiffly turned to look at Evelyn who was standing behind him with a face devoid of emotion.

"I came to talk to you. Evelyn, I feel—"

" If my father were to reject this marriage, I am sure you won't come to knock on his door," she said and walked towards him.

"This is my decision, Julius. I am not asking for your opinion. What else have you to say?" She asked. Her tone clearly left no room for argument.

The words caught up in Julius's throat, and he couldn't speak for a while. "If you want me to back down without a fight, then be my woman."

She was silent.

(This rascal!!) Bell was furious.

PAH!!

She slapped him hard across the face. The slap was so hard that a tooth fell out. "Despicable," her voice was calm and monotonous. "I told you, killing you would be like crushing an ant."

She walked to the door, opened it, and shut it behind her.

(That was hot!) Bell said. (I am pretty sure that rascal would never dare to speak like that again.)

I hope so. Why did my power suddenly skyrocket? She asked as she arranged some clothes in a bag.

(I'll need an hour for troubleshooting. Please excuse me. I need to shoot the trouble…hehehe) She giggled.
