Fiona's face drained of color as she stared at my phone. The recording app was still open, capturing every damning word she'd spoken.
"Delete that right now!" she shrieked, lunging for my phone.
I stepped back, slipping the device into my pocket. "It's already backed up to the cloud."
My mother rushed between us, her eyes wild with panic. "Elara, please. Think about what you're doing. This could destroy the entire family!"
"That's rich coming from you two," I replied, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "You've spent years trying to destroy me."
Philip stood awkwardly by the door, clutching the new DNA report. I nodded toward him.
"Philip, would you give us a moment?"
He looked relieved as he placed the report on a nearby table and quickly exited. As soon as the door clicked shut, I pulled out my phone again.
"What are you going to do with that?" Fiona asked, her voice small for once.
