I watched Felix vanish down the hallway, a curious expression on his face. Whatever he was thinking about Arthur, it wasn't my concern right now. My focus needed to be entirely on Mrs. Dubois—the woman who might truly be my mother.

As we approached the hospital ward, four men in crisp black suits materialized beside us. They moved with the quiet efficiency of trained professionals, forming a protective formation around us.
I shot Arthur a questioning look.
"Security detail," he explained, his voice low. "I made a call while you were speaking with the doctor. These men will ensure Mrs. Hayes's wishes are respected."
"You hired bodyguards?" I couldn't hide my surprise.
