Marcus and Vincent Sterling marched into Old Mrs. Sterling's sitting room with a storm brewing in their eyes. I stood beside Arthur, feeling their disgust like a physical blow as they caught sight of me.
"This has gone too far," Marcus spat, not bothering with pleasantries. "The illegitimate daughter of a disgraced family? Have you completely lost your mind, Arthur?"
I flinched internally at the word "illegitimate." No matter how many times I heard it, the sting never lessened.
Vincent thrust his phone forward, displaying a news article. "It's already making rounds in our social circles. The Sterling heir married to Oceanion's most notorious bastard."
Arthur's hand found the small of my back, steady and warm. "Are you quite finished?" he asked, his voice dangerously calm.
