Chapter 119 - Chapter 119: A Heartbeat in the Coral Sea

Those two soft curves trembled slightly, the costume was simply too tight.

He had actually caught sight of her entire figure.

Even Spidey hadn't expected such a beautiful scene. Tonight wasn't a waste after all. He turned his head, wishing with all his might that he had a superpower to stretch his eyes wider.

Mary Jane slowly bent over, slid the costume down to her ankles, and then flicked it onto a nearby chair with the tip of her toe.

Spidey wished he were that chair.

Suddenly, perhaps because she was standing on one foot, Mary Jane lost her balance and sat down on the chair beside her.

Just like that, completely bare, she sat on the chair.

Spidey silently chanted in his mind: I would become that chair, endure five hundred years of wind, five hundred years of sun, five hundred years of rain… if only this girl would sit upon me.

After putting on her stockings, Mary Jane slipped her soft, plump feet into a pair of black stiletto heels, slipping them on with a practiced flick of her hand.

Spidey quickly and quietly closed the door and ran off faster than he had come.

"Oh, you look beautiful tonight."

Spidey said this when he saw Mary Jane smiling sweetly, handing her a small bouquet of lilies.

"Thank you."

Mary Jane accepted the bouquet and gently sniffed the flowers.

She had taken special care in choosing her outfit tonight. Knowing Spidey would be coming, she wanted to look her best in front of her admirer.

She wore a coffee-colored miniskirt with sheer nude stockings on her legs. On top, she had chosen a pale green floral blouse and a cropped vest. Her delicate, expressive face equally suited for playful teasing or quiet grace left Spidey completely spellbound.

To be honest, in terms of looks alone, Mary Jane could only be considered slightly above average. After all, Stark Industries was filled with stunning women elegant, educated, and elite. Some weren't just beautiful but also academic standouts.

"I'm really happy you came to see the show."

Mary Jane's eyes curved with delight as she smiled, trying to hide her happiness.

Spidey scratched his head sheepishly.

"But I was still late."

Mary Jane tilted her head and replied,

"That's okay. At least you made it, Mr. Busy."

Spidey looked down, searching for the right words. He wanted to invite her to dinner, but his wallet was embarrassingly empty. His mind raced, trying to find a restaurant that was both affordable and decent-looking.

"Hey, would you like to"

Before he could finish, a tall and confident man walked over.

"Hey, sweetheart. How was the show tonight?"

He moved with ease and charisma. This was John Jameson, Mary Jane's new boyfriend.

Spidey stood awkwardly to the side, fighting the urge to punt this guy into another zip code, but instead forced a smile and said,

"Wow, you two look great together."

John Jameson seemed to notice Spidey for the first time. Holding Mary Jane's hand, he asked curiously,

"And who's this?"

"Let me introduce you. This is my childhood friend and high school classmate"

Before Mary Jane could finish, Spidey cut in.

"I'm Mary Jane's good friend. My name is Peter Parker."

John extended a hand and smiled.

"Peter, Mary Jane talks about you all the time. It's great to finally meet you."

"I've made a reservation at this roast lamb place, it's really good. Let's go."

As he finished, he seemed to remember something and turned to Spidey.

"Mr. Parker, would you like to join us?"

"Uh, no thanks. I've already had dinner."

"That's a shame. Let's go."

Without waiting for Mary Jane's response, he took her by the hand and walked away.

Spidey stood there, dazed, watching them go, feeling like the whole scene was some kind of bad joke.

He watched them get into a luxury sedan, his mood plummeting. Mary Jane glanced back at him. Spidey straightened up and gave her a wave. Only after the car disappeared into the distance did he finally turn and leave.

At the theater entrance, a street soul singer was playing the violin and singing:

"Turn away, can't say goodbyeA seabird loving a fish was only an accidentOur love (the love you gave)Was always different (can't go back)"

The lyrics only made Spidey feel worse. He walked faster and faster, eventually breaking into a sprint as the wind howled past his ears. He leapt into the air, shot out a web, and swung forward. He flew across two blocks, and just as he was about to reach the third—

His web didn't shoot.

"Ah! Ah! Aaaah...!"

With a scream, Spidey plummeted from the top of a fifty-story building.

Bang

With a dull thud, he crashed into a rooftop water tank, smashing a massive dent into the metal.

Groaning, he pulled himself up and tested his arm, he still couldn't shoot webs.

When you're down, even drinking cold water can chip a tooth.

With no other choice, Spidey dragged himself toward the elevator. To his surprise, a man and a dog were already inside.

It was too late to turn back, and too awkward to hesitate, so he stepped in under the man's confused gaze.

"Which floor?"

The man pressed the door close button.

"Ground floor, thanks," Spidey muttered.

Two men riding an elevator together the silence slowly grew heavier.
