Thor suddenly remembered something. He quickly pulled out a black leather notebook from inside his coat and handed it to Jane Foster.
"Oh my god! I can't believe this!"
Jane was overjoyed. She opened the notebook, it was the very one S.H.I.E.L.D. had confiscated from her.
Seeing the delight on her face, Thor couldn't help but smile too.
"This is all I could recover. I'm sorry I couldn't keep my promise. I had hoped to get everything back."
Too bad I can't lift Mjolnir anymore, Thor thought. I may never be able to keep that promise.
Jane shook her head while flipping through the pages, checking for any signs of tampering.
"This is already more than enough. I won't have to start over from scratch. Thank you."
Seeing her serious expression, Thor asked gently,"What's wrong?"
She shook her head.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. or whoever they really did everything they could to bury my research."
Watching her frown, Thor's heart ached. He moved closer and sat beside her, just inches away. Looking into her eyes, he said softly,"Jane, you mustn't give up. You have to finish what you started."
Jane met his gaze."Why?"
"Because what you're doing is right. Look, your ancestors called it magic. You call it science."
He took the notebook from her hands and began sketching something with a pen.
"Where I come from, magic and science are the same."
He focused intently on his drawing, unaware that the woman next to him was gazing at him with quiet affection.
"What is that?" Jane asked, snapping herself out of her thoughts. She silently scolded herself for getting distracted by his face.
She looked down. Thor had drawn a tree in the notebook.
"My father explained to me that your world is one of the Nine Realms," Thor said, smiling. "They're all connected by the branches of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. I see it every day, but I still don't fully understand it. Through it, I can see... what do you call this?"
He turned the page, revealing two sketches one of the Hubble Space Telescope floating in the vastness of space.
"That's the Hubble Telescope."
Jane beamed, showing off a dazzling smile.
"Tell me more," she said. "I want to know."
Thor kept drawing.
"The Nine Realms—this is Earth, here's Alfheim, Vanaheim, Jotunheim, and Asgard. That's where I'm from."
Jane looked at him, half amused, half awed."I'm starting to believe you might actually be telling the truth."
She watched him, utterly absorbed in his drawing.
What exactly was he?A lunatic?A genius?Or something stranger still?
His deep voice kept talking, but the concepts he described were hard to grasp. As he spoke, Jane's eyelids began to droop.
"What's wrong? Sleepy?" Thor asked, noticing her silence.
Jane had already begun to nod off. Propped up by her hand, her head bobbed softly as she drifted. She looked completely adorable.
"Hey, maybe you should just go to sleep."
He reached out and gently supported her shoulder to keep her from slumping over.
"Oh, okay..." she mumbled. The long day had worn her down. Her eyes barely stayed open.
"There's a folding cot in my car. Can you help me bring it down?"
She slumped sideways and began snoring lightly.
Thor shook his head, brushing a hand through her silky hair, then went to retrieve the cot from the car.
Back by the campfire, he laid out the bedding. Then, lifting her gently, he placed her on the cot with care. She looked soft and fragile in his arms, completely unaware that the God of Thunder from Asgard was watching her with intense eyes.
They say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And to Thor, Jane Foster was the most beautiful woman in the world.
From her serene, glowing face to her slightly parted cherry lips soft and tempting. she tugged at his heart.
Her delicate, elegant nose, and her luminous cheeks seemed to glow like moonlight. A sliver of her jade-like neck peeked out from beneath her sweater, stirring his imagination.
Thor shook his head, trying to calm his rising breath. Though he had never known the intimacy of a woman, his divine nature demanded restraint.
Even in the face of such overwhelming temptation, he knew what was right. A god must have discipline. And taking advantage of a sleeping woman was beneath him.
He gently pulled a blanket over Jane, then lay down on another cot nearby.
The beautiful woman let out a soft, contented sigh, like a purring Persian cat. She unconsciously nestled her cheek against Thor's hand.
"Thank you, Jane," he whispered.
The Nine Realms – Asgard
"Our dearest friend has been exiled. Loki now sits on the throne. Asgard teeters on the edge of war... and you! You just devoured four wild boars, six pheasants, an entire steak, and two barrels of beer. Disgraceful! Do you even care?"
A warrior clad in armor, sword at his side, kicked the drumstick out of a chubby man's hand.
"Just because I eat doesn't mean I'm heartless! I'm fueling up for war!" the fat man bellowed, jumping to his feet.
"Enough! Both of you, silence!"
A Valkyrie stepped in just as the two were about to come to blows, forcing them apart.
"We all know what must be done. We must leave Asgard at once. We have to find Thor. On Earth."
The sword-bearing warrior turned abruptly, his tone sharp."That would be treason."
"To hell with treason! We're going after Thor, whatever it takes!"
The fat warrior snapped back.
"Keep your voice down. Heimdall might be watching," warned another warrior, his hair tied back tightly.
Suddenly, the doors burst open with a loud crash.
A guard marched in, spear in hand."Heimdall wants to see you."
"We're doomed," the four muttered in unison.
Still, they followed the guard to the edge of the Bifröst—the glowing bridge to the other realms, where Heimdall stood watch.
Heimdall, gripping his sword, stared down at them.
"You're bold indeed to conspire against the throne, to break your oaths as warriors, to commit treason... all for Thor?"
"Yes," said the Valkyrie firmly.
"Good."
Heimdall stepped down from the platform.
"You'll help us?" one of them asked.
"I serve the king," Heimdall replied calmly. "I cannot open the Bifröst for you."
