Chapter Seventy Three
"Now, I'm so tired. It hurts. I just want to rest. So please, let me go where the child is?"
"I'm sorry!" Amendiel pleads with a tortured look. His arms enclose Faelyn tightly as he continues to mutter his apology, his voice breaking with each word.
Faelyn smiles, her thumb still grazing Amendiel's face as a brief moment of understanding passes between them.
"I don't forgive you, I can't… You can't make me stay, and even if you do, I would only hate you more each day. The poison isn't just in my blood, Amendiel. It's in my heart. You put it there."
The words slice through Amendiel, tasting like bleeding coppers on his mouth as Faelyn gasps with her last breath.
"I loved you," she breathes, and the past tense makes him flinch.
"You can love me again," he pleads desperately. "We can start over. We can—"
