Chapter 2 - Chapter 2:

Adina settled in quickly, being a scholarship student, she knows she has to be on top of her game. She did late-night reading and made sure of the fact that she didn't slack off on any of her responsibilities. She handled everything with a bright smile and a cheerful spirit, She was the best in school. No one could come close when it came to smartness, and news began to spread about the new girl whose level of intelligence was unmatched. Professors always made an example of her to other students, praising her for staying relevant even though she's from a humble background. She still maintained the morals and values instilled in her by her parents which should serve as an example to others, to also put in everything they have got to get their degree.

However, not everyone admired her. Adina's happiness was short-lived, as all the praises showered on her began to attract envy from other students. Which made them vow to do whatever it took to ruin her life and make her(Adina) fall flat on her face and beg for mercy. Kate and her clique promised to make life miserable for Adina.

Kate made life a living hell for Adina, always threatening her, making fun of her, and embarrassing her in front of the entire school. She said;" What are you doing here, Adina? This isn't a charity; Brentford University is for people who can afford to go here. It's a university and you are just a charity case that wants to compete with the big leagues This is my school and you don't fit in with the rest of us". Adina clenched her fists, but took deep breaths, she wouldn't let Kate's words define her. She stood her ground and continued being the noble student everyone is proud of, She always showed kindness whenever she got the chance to do so. She said;" My mum always says, never let the mindset of someone change you or sway you from achieving your goals. You owe it to yourself to make yourself proud".

Those words were Adina's mantras, she abided by them always. "Others' opinions about me don't matter I have a goal to achieve, " she thought. Day after day Kate continued to make life in Brentford unbearable for Adina. One sunny afternoon, after Professor Santiago's class, Adina sat on the cold metallic chair by the window side, with the smell of ink and paper hovering in the air. Kate and her friends connived to embarrass her right there in the class They got red paint and paid someone to act like he mistakenly poured it on her, Simon gladly accepted to do the job and he was rewarded by Kate. Simon walked towards Adina's table and splashed the paint on her which made her open her eyes and shout;" Simon, why did you do this? You just ruined my entire outfit". Simon responded;" Oops, oh dear Adina sorry" which was followed by devilish laughter that caused an uproar in the class. "This will teach you to know where you belong, have always told you that you don't belong here". Kate answered this was followed by loud laughs from the other students, "You look like a clown that's being chased" one said, No she looked like a churro the class continued.

Adina left the class to clean herself up, She wiped the paint off her face, memories of her father's harsh words flooded her mind and she thought to herself; "This is nothing compared to what I have had to endure in my life". But deep down inside, a storm brewed so I won't let this bring me down. Kate will meet her end soon I know of it and as for the rest of the class, they are just ignorant and heed to Kate's bidding because of what she has to offer so I hold no grudge against them. As she hurried out of the rest room, hot tears rolled down her cheeks; " I wont let them win".she whispered to herself wiping her face off with a string sense of determination"I have to get to work on time before David starts to yell". She immediately reminded herself, focusing on her goals.

Adina's journey was far from over, but every challenge that came her way she saw it as a dark cloud before the silver lining." I will continue to strive for greatness, I owe it to myself to make myself proud, and I won't stop just because some feel uncomfortable about me". She thought, with each passing day she was more determined to do well. Wiping away her tears of frustration she left the school premises
