Chapter 87 - Chapter 87: Two Pairs of Mangekyō!

"Who... Who's talking?!"

Obito jerked his head up, startled. Just moments ago, he had lowered it in disappointment. But now, Kakashi and Rin had vanished without a trace.

In their place stood a ninja with scarlet eyes—eyes identical to his own.

"You—who are you?" Obito demanded, taking a cautious step back. "Why do you look exactly like me? Where did you take Kakashi and Rin?"

He raised his kunai defensively, eyes locked onto this mysterious figure.

The doppelgänger smirked. "Haha, there's no need to act so tense. After all... I am you."

"What?" Obito froze, uncertain whether he had heard correctly. "Do you think I'm some gullible child?"

The clone didn't flinch. "To be more precise," he said with a wide grin, "I am the dark side of your heart."

"The... dark side?" Obito repeated skeptically. He didn't believe this for a second. But the bizarre scene around him defied all logic—unless...

"I see. This is an illusion, isn't it?" he muttered.

He narrowed his eyes. "I admit—it takes considerable strength to trap me in a genjutsu without me realizing. I'll give you credit for that. But in front of my Sharingan, illusions are meaningless!"

With a shout, Obito activated his two-tomoe Sharingan. "Genjutsu: Release!"

But nothing changed.

The figure before him—this 'dark side'—stood exactly as before, arms crossed, looking at him with an expression of mild amusement, as if watching a fool struggle with a puzzle.

Why didn't the illusion break?

Could it be that... he was telling the truth?

But that couldn't be. Obito clenched his fists. There's no darkness in my heart strong enough to create something like him... right?

"Confused about why I've appeared?" the dark Obito asked, tilting his head. His grin widened. "Haha, of course you are. Since I am your dark side, I know what you're thinking before you even think it."

He took a step forward, eyes gleaming like a predator eyeing helpless prey.

"You like Rin, don't you? But she was taken from you—by Kakashi."

Obito's fists trembled.

"You value your friendship with both of them more than anything... but now, that bond is falling apart. Shisui's sudden appearance only made things worse. You feel confused. Unwanted. Powerless. Even angry."

The clone's voice suddenly rose to a shout, cutting deep like a blade.

But Obito didn't explode in rage as expected. Instead, he took a slow breath, shrugged, and said calmly, "If I had any doubts before… your words just confirmed that you're nothing more than an illusionist."

Dark Obito's smile faltered. "What?"

Obito narrowed his eyes, disdain clear in his voice. "What you said is tempting. You even picked up on my momentary sense of loss when Shisui appeared."

"But you underestimated one thing—my trust in Rin and Kakashi."

He stepped forward now, filled with clarity.

"We've been together since the academy. We trained together, ate together, joined Minato-sensei's squad together. We took the Chūnin Exams as a team, and fought side-by-side on the battlefield!"

"The trust we built through those trials cannot be broken by your twisted words!"

He raised his voice now, anger surging.

"As for your nonsense about Kakashi stealing Rin? That's ridiculous. That's called fair competition between men!"

"What really made me give up… wasn't Kakashi. It was Rin's feelings—for him."

He glared, fury blazing in his eyes. "So don't underestimate me, you bastard!"

Dark Obito's smirk had fully vanished now. In its place was confusion—and fear.

"And since you're not an illusion I can dispel... I'll destroy you myself!"

"Wood Style: Cutting Technique!"

Puff!

A sharp wooden spike burst from Obito's right arm and pierced Dark Obito's chest with deadly speed!

But Obito wasn't done.

He formed a second seal. The wooden spike branched out inside Dark Obito's body, turning him into a human pincushion. The technique tore through him from within, violent and merciless.

Such cruelty was rarely seen from Obito—but this imposter had pushed him too far.

Yet, despite being skewered like a hedgehog, Dark Obito didn't cry out. Instead, he began laughing—wildly and hysterically.

"Hahahahaha!"

"You're stronger than I expected," he admitted. "But in the end… I still win."

His laughter faded into a chilling whisper.

"Open your eyes and look. Who did you really attack?"

"Kakashi!"

Obito froze.

The world around him shattered like a cracked mirror, the illusion breaking apart.

When his vision cleared, Obito found himself staring in horror at Kakashi—real Kakashi.

Blood was pouring from his eyes, ears, and nose. He stood still, then staggered.

"No..." Obito whispered, heart pounding.

"Kakashi!" Rin screamed, rushing toward them.

With a desperate cry, she punched the wooden spike that pierced through Kakashi's chest, shattering it. She then caught him gently and laid him down.

Green chakra flowed from her hands as she pressed against his chest.

"It's going to be okay!" Rin whispered frantically. "Your healing ability is incredible! You'll recover... you will recover!"

"Baihao Technique... activate!"

But the technique didn't work.

Kakashi's wounds didn't heal. The chakra marks never appeared. His body remained still.

His heartbeat slowed… then stopped.

"No… no, please, no!" Rin sobbed, tears flowing uncontrollably as she clung to him. "Please... please don't die…"

Knowing it was already too late, she gently pulled Kakashi's upper body into her arms, holding him close and trembling.

"Senior Silver Fox!"

Shisui's voice broke through the chaos.

He had turned around when he heard Rin's scream and saw Obito's wooden spike impaling Kakashi. Shisui's eyes widened in disbelief.

He instantly abandoned the fight with the Kaguya clan members and rushed over.

The enemy, now without their leader and with many comrades lost, began to retreat slowly. No one dared step forward.

Shisui skidded to a halt in front of them. "You've got to be kidding…"

"I… killed Kakashi?"

Obito stared blankly at Kakashi's pale face, unable to comprehend what had happened. Guilt and disbelief twisted his features.

"Why, Obito-senpai?! Why did you do this!?" Shisui cried out, his voice filled with grief and confusion.

Kakashi's brave image—holding off the Mizukage to protect Rin and himself—flashed through Shisui's mind.

Without realizing it, his Sharingan began spinning rapidly.

The tomoe blurred together, forming a new shape—

A shuriken.

Mangekyō Sharingan.

But something even stranger happened.

As Shisui reached out to grab Obito's arm—his hand passed right through him.

He felt... nothing.

He looked up, stunned.

Obito was raising his eyes now too.

His eyes had changed.

They were no longer the two-tomoe Sharingan.

Instead, they had transformed into a sickle-like shape—three curved blades joined together in a circle.

Obito's Mangekyō Sharingan had awakened.

At that moment, due to the grief and shock caused by Kakashi's death…

Both Obito and Shisui awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan—at the same time.
