Chapter 2 – The Engagement Meeting
The moment I finished dressing, I realized I wasn't simply putting on clothes—I was stepping into a role. A royal one.
The attire prepared for me was tailored with precision. The fabric shimmered faintly, glinting with enchanted glyphs. It radiated authority—befitting a man of elevated status. In Japan, I was already known as powerful. Wealthy. Respected. Feared. But now, I had become something more.
Step. Step.
Rin walked beside me through the towering corridors of what was unmistakably a royal castle. The ceilings arched high above us, lit by floating crystals that pulsed with mana. Hum... hum... Paintings shimmered and shifted subtly within gilded frames. Fwoosh... Magic flowed through the structure like a heartbeat.
Maids in crisp uniforms bowed as we passed. Tap... bow... rustle. Some had feline ears and tails—beastfolk. Loyal. Beautiful.
"Are they real?" I asked, voice composed.
"Of course," Rin replied with a smile. "Careful. Mi gets jealous if you stare too long."
I gave a small nod. I wasn't flustered. I was observing—absorbing every detail.
We stopped before a towering set of grand double doors. Boom... boom... mana thrummed behind them.
"Our parents are waiting inside," Rin said softly. "And… someone else."
"Another fiancée?"
"Yes, darling."
"Understood."
She reached forward and pushed the doors open.
CRREEEAAAAK…
---
The throne room stretched vast and elegant. Clink... pulse. The golden crest of the Yuma family glowed beneath our feet. Floating orbs cast warm illumination over marble floors. Hover... hum.
At the far end stood Rin's parents. Her father had the presence of a warrior king—broad-shouldered, silver streaked hair, a long cloak lined with runes that flickered faintly. Her mother stood beside him, elegant and sharp-eyed.
"So this is the man fate chose," the king said, voice carrying. Rumble...
"Yuu Yuhin. The one our daughters dreamt of."
"If fate summoned me," I replied, calm and steady, "then I intend to understand why."
Before anyone could speak, the chamber doors creaked again. Creeeak...
A shift in the air. Pulse.
A presence.
She entered like a storm. THUMP. THUMP. Tall, athletic. A silver ponytail swayed behind her as twin swords clinked against her back. Clang. Clang. Her black uniform fit like a glove. Her crimson eyes met mine.
And for a second—just one—those fierce eyes widened.
"So… you're Yuu Yuhin?" she said, voice low and cutting. "The outsider who kissed my big sister Mi in her sleep?"
"Yes," I replied without hesitation. "But let's correct that. She kissed me first. And it was to restore my magic, not for pleasure."
Silence. The kind that presses down like gravity.
From behind a curtain, Mi peeked in—flustered. Her long blue hair flowed as she stepped forward. Rustle...
"It's true... I kissed him to heal his energy... and he didn't resist..."
Rei's lips parted slightly. Breath in. She scanned me again—slowly this time. My posture. My tone. My aura.
"Tch… You're more composed than I expected. And... more handsome."
I didn't respond. I stepped forward. Step. Step. My eyes locked onto the king.
"I didn't die—I was struck by the truck. Head-on. I pushed Rin out of the way. My body should've been crushed. But something happened. The two worlds overlapped. I was standing in both—and then I wasn't in Japan anymore."
My gaze sharpened.
"If this world is less advanced than mine, how did Rin appear in my world? Is there magic capable of dimensional travel?"
The king's eyes narrowed. Crackle of tension.
"There is no spell in our world that can summon someone across dimensions. What happened to you is... unprecedented."
The queen stepped forward. Her voice was graceful, but filled with weight.
"Rin didn't appear physically. When she was six, she fell into a coma. Her soul drifted into another realm—yours. You were the only one who could see her."
Rin moved beside me. Her pink hair shimmered. Soft glow.
"Our souls were connected from childhood. You remembered me. I remembered you. It wasn't coincidence."
"So her soul found me," I muttered. "And when I tried to save her from danger, our bond activated—and pulled me here."
The king nodded solemnly.
"You are the only one who has experienced this. And likely the only one who ever will."
I held my hand out. My tone firm.
"Then I need full access. If I'm to protect this kingdom—and marry your daughters—I want truth. I want the records. Scrolls. Everything your previous hero left behind."
The king raised a sealed scroll and passed it to me. Slide.
"We have them. The last hero wasn't like you. But he left insights. They're yours."
He unfurled a large map across the table. Fwoosh...
"This is our world. Four kingdoms. Ours—the Kingdom of Alic—is the largest, strongest, and most politically powerful. And now... you are its future king."
I examined the map. Eyes narrowing.
"I accept the role. But I have conditions."
"Speak," said the king.
"One: I want everything the previous hero left behind. Journals. Artifacts. Battle reports."
"Two: I want a complete explanation of the marriage ritual magic. I've accepted the engagement, but I need to understand the purpose behind each ceremony."
"Three..."
I turned slowly toward Rei.
"Train me. In swordsmanship. Magic. War."
Rei raised a brow. Her eyes sparked. Ting.
"Why me?"
"Because you're strong. And because I need to become stronger than anyone if I'm going to protect this world."
She crossed her arms. Her aura flared slightly. Crack.
"Fine. Just don't cry if I break you."
"I don't cry," I said, stepping closer. "I adapt."
Then I turned back to the king and queen.
"If you are entrusting me with your daughters—each of them beautiful, intelligent, and powerful—I swear this: I will protect them. Not because I must. But because I choose to."
The king nodded slowly.
"Then rise, Yuu Yuhin. Your legend... begins."
Boom.
The torches flared.
Magic surged.
And I took my first true step toward destiny.
