Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Snape's Transformation

Tonight, the Ravenclaw common room was a scene of jubilation.

Professor Flitwick personally came to congratulate the team on their victory, his face shining with excitement, clearly having longed for this win for a long time.

Alfrina watched everyone happily in the common room, her round eyes narrowing into slits with joy.

Howard was still shaking Gary's arm, asking him how he knew the future.

Kona was tutoring Lockhart in Transfiguration; he seemed to have adjusted his mindset today, a smile gracing his face.

On the other side, James and Sirius hadn't yet recovered from their captain's stormy criticism when Lupin, who had returned to the dormitory early, delivered another bombshell.

"You mean you, you, you're that gray Werewolf?" James pointed at Lupin incredulously, his eyes wide.

"Hey, Remus," Sirius grumbled, annoyed, "you actually thought about attacking me then?"

"I lose my mind under the moonlight on a full moon night," Lupin said. "I really didn't mean to attack you all."

Peter was a bit scared. He shrank into a corner, and whenever he looked at Lupin, he recalled the Werewolf's bloodthirsty gaze from that time.

"If you mind, I'll move out of the dormitory," Lupin said with difficulty. He had just been brought back to Hogwarts by Madam Pomfrey today, and Dumbledore told him to reveal his secret to his good friends.

He didn't understand why Dumbledore would do this. He hadn't exposed his identity; wouldn't it be better to keep it a secret and live as a normal person in the dormitory?

He was afraid his friends would avoid him because of his identity. If he lost this hard-won friendship, Lupin would truly break down.

"What?" James's hand paused in the air before landing heavily on Lupin's shoulder. "Just a Werewolf, it's just a furry little problem."

"That's right, Remus," Sirius was truly loyal to his brother. "Will this small problem affect our brotherhood?"

"Right, Peter?" Sirius abruptly turned to ask Peter in the corner, looking somewhat displeased at his timid appearance.

"...Exactly!" Peter squeezed out a smile. "We'll always be by your side, Remus."

He really didn't have such thick skin as to face a Werewolf without flinching, but he also didn't want to be looked down upon by his friends.

"...Thank you all so much," Lupin said sincerely, his eyes a little moist. These friends were the closest people to him besides his family, and their support was crucial to Lupin.

"This secret is limited to the four of us," James announced, jumping onto his bed and waving his hand. "Don't tell anyone!"

Lupin hesitated. He wasn't sure if it was the right decision not to tell his companions from "A Maverick Pig" about this secret.

After all, Gary and Alfrina had also seen him in his Werewolf form.

However, James and Sirius immediately pulled him into complaining about the Quidditch match, so Lupin put the matter out of his mind.

Ever since Lockhart deducted a hundred points from Ravenclaw, he couldn't find any classmates to talk to in the house. James had chatted with him a few times, using the favor of telling him about Hogwarts' secret passages last time to make Lockhart keep his mouth shut and not reveal anything about the Shrieking Shack.

Lockhart began to correctly understand himself. Compared to his classmates, he didn't seem particularly outstanding, except for his brilliant blonde hair and handsome face.

He wasn't that special. Gary's powerful Shield Charm that saved Peter was still vivid in his mind. Could such a powerful magic really be cast by a second-year student?

In comparison, his own strength seemed too mediocre. Potions was decent, but his other subject grades were very average, ranking among the lowest in Ravenclaw.

One after another, these blows gradually made this just-turned-twelve-year-old boy recognize himself and mature rapidly.

Ever since "A Maverick Pig" resumed its activities, Snape came to gatherings less and less, and his face grew colder and colder. Sometimes, his gaze towards Lupin even contained a hint of hatred.

Alfrina was very perceptive; she had asked Lupin, but he was evasive and wouldn't say much.

Alfrina simply thought the two might have had some conflict, but the truth was not that simple.

After the Quidditch season ended, James would occasionally go to the Library. After learning about Lupin's Werewolf identity, they set a grand goal.

To achieve this goal, he had to consult Transfiguration materials in the Library, but every time he went to the Library, he would see Lily and Snape sitting together discussing something.

This made James's jealous anger burn even brighter. He even once saw Lily's arm touching Snape's.

James was unhappy, so he sought revenge. To be safe, he brought his friends along and caused trouble for Snape everywhere.

Lupin really had no choice and participated several times, such as throwing Snape into the sink in the lavatory and then squirting him in the face with a Water-Jet Charm.

Snape felt like he hadn't done anything to deserve being pranked by James and his friends. His discussions with Lily in the Library were because he was responsible for organizing the key points for the Potions final exam in "A Maverick Pig", and there were some details he needed to discuss with Lily, who was equally excellent in Potions.

Snape was getting annoyed. He was starting to want to leave the organization. He had to admit that the organization's reform proposal for Defense Against the Dark Arts was quite excellent, but the Defense Against the Dark Arts OWL exam content was child's play to him, and he didn't have a strong sense of responsibility. He wasn't interested in how many failing students the curriculum reform could help. If Lily hadn't liked a lively atmosphere and insisted on joining, Snape would never have come along.

Now James was causing trouble again, and the attitude of the Slytherin house towards him was also changing. Last Christmas, he had connected with Lucius Malfoy, the heir to the Malfoy family, who had just graduated.

Malfoy was very interested in his Potion and Dark Arts abilities and even invited him to Malfoy Manor for a Christmas ball. There, he met many Pure-blood family heads, including Walburga Black, Sirius Black's mother.

This was Snape's first time seeing the Pure-blood families of the magic world. Their polite demeanor left a much better impression on him than the Muggle-born students at Hogwarts.

He began to long to enter this circle. His father's domestic violence towards him and his mother since childhood made him hate Muggles, and at the same time, he didn't want to be poor anymore. He looked at his home in Spinner's End, then at the luxurious decorations of Malfoy Manor, and thought about the sewage flowing freely around his house, having to endure the stench from the sewers in summer.
