POV: Ember
I threw up all over Dr. Chen's medical bag.
"Sorry," I gasped, wiping my mouth with a towel. "The smell of the antiseptic just hit me wrong."
Dr. Chen had driven up to the mountain cabin to examine me secretly. We couldn't risk going to a hospital where Victoria might find us.
"That's completely normal," she said, cleaning off her equipment. "Morning sickness is often worse with multiple pregnancies."
"Multiple?" I said, my heart stopping. "What do you mean, multiple?"
Ash and Cade both moved closer to the couch where I was lying. They'd been hovering over me all morning like worried mother hens.
"Let me check again," Dr. Chen said, pulling out her portable ultrasound machine. "This might be cold."
She spread the gel on my stomach and moved the wand around. The screen showed fuzzy black and white images that meant nothing to me.
But Dr. Chen's face went pale.
"What is it?" I asked, panic rising in my chest.
