POV: Ash
I grabbed both babies from Cade's arms before he could react.
"These are my children," I announced loudly to the Council members.
High Elder Grimm raised an eyebrow. "Your children?"
"Yes. Mine and Ember's."
Cade started to protest, but I shot him a warning look.
Trust me, I tried to say with my eyes.
Through our alpha bond, I felt his confusion and fear, but also his understanding.
This was our only chance.
"That's interesting," said a thin woman with silver hair. "Because our reports indicate these babies belong to Cade Blackwood."
"Your reports are wrong," Ember said, stepping forward. "I rejected Cade months ago. These babies are Ash's."
She put her arm around me, playing the part perfectly.
"I never wanted anything to do with Cade after he chose that Victoria woman."
High Elder Grimm studied us carefully. "So you're saying the tri-bonded babies belong to Ash Blackwood, not Cade?"
"That's right," I said, holding the twins closer.
