A specially assembled 10‑person team—comprising Special Forces, physicists, doctors, and electronics experts—was flown via Black Hawk to Nevada to investigate.
At the location where Carson City once stood, the entire team stood stunned: the city had completely vanished. Not a trace remained. It was as though the city had evaporated into thin air.
At the site, physicists detected a striking quantum phenomenon—a Dirac Sea explosion.
Everyone exchanged shocked glances. If this explosion wasn't triggered by an Evangelion… how else could one explain such an anomaly?
As news reached the White House, it inevitably also reached SEELE and NERV Headquarters.
The magnitude of the discovery struck them all.
Especially alarming, the finding of a Dirac Sea in the Nevada desert amounted to a crisis.
Gendo Ikari, Kouzou Fuyutsuki, and even Misato Katsuragi were among the first to receive the report.
Countless meetings were called. Teams dispatched to the former site of Carson City. Even Fuyutsuki made an emergency trip to Nevada.
Losing one Evangelion is a major matter—two units disappeared simultaneously? That meant political fallout, financial loss…it was incomparable.
Every branch of U.S. government mobilized to investigate the mystery behind the Dirac Sea explosion.
Two weeks later, the office of the Homeland Security Director was tapped with a knock.
The Director entered, face pale. Today was the final deadline. The President demanded answers—or trouble would follow.
"Come in." The President's cold voice greeted him.
"This is the final day—what have you found?"
"Mr. President—we believe this event was deliberate."
The Director wiped sweat from his brow.
"Explain."
The President leaned forward. This was the question he cared about most. Without an explanation, media pressure would devour the White House.
"We believe the Dirac Sea's eruption is tied to quantum physics—and we know EVA technology has direct ties to the Angels."
The Director spoke quickly. Both he and the President understood these hidden facts—not everyone did, but their level of clearance meant they had access.
As the President's expression softened slightly, the Director continued:
"The Angels are higher lifeforms. NERV has dedicated decades to their study. They invented the EVAs. No one—not even the government—knows EVA's true secrets the way NERV does."
"Which means… if this Dirac Sea event is linked to EVA… the only entity capable of causing such a drastic anomaly is NERV itself."
"What? NERV? That's… impossible."
But the President's tone shifted—eager curiosity replaced skepticism.
"And yet… NERV would have no clear motive. Still, if it is them…"
"Mr. President, consider this: The Vatican treaty was just signed. Nations are making moves. Japan, and even our own allies, may have such ambitions…"
The Director pressed on:
"The U.S. remains the most powerful nation. Japan has long deferred to our interests. If NERV Headquarters wanted to shift Japan's status—or worse, use EVAs to undermine regional balance—it's not outside the realm of possibility."
"Makes sense. That reasoning… that reasoning is solid."
The President banged his fist on the table, voice harsh:
"Despicable. To destabilize Japan's position using Eva… So, NERV is the prime suspect."
He paused, eyes dark with fury:
> "Mobilize the full powers of the presidency. I authorize an across-the-board investigation into any connection between NERV Headquarters and Carson City's disappearance. DHS will not rest until they uncover every detail. Understood?"
"Understood!"
The DHS Director snapped to attention and saluted.
Meanwhile, SEELE responded with equal urgency.
In a darkened chamber, Ryoji Kaji stood before eleven enormous holographic displays—technology allowing sight anywhere on Earth, now used within his own home.
Few know of SEELE—and even fewer understand its true global influence. Only an organization of such magnitude—covering finance, trade, and politics across nations—could ever attempt a project like the Human Instrumentality Project.
"Kaji Ryoji, you understand why we summoned you."
A masked member, designated No. 1, spoke:
"The Dirac Sea incident occurred in Nevada. We require a full explanation."
"I'm sorry,"
Kaji shook his head,
"But even I don't know the cause. The event was too sudden. We received no warning."
"We understand," replied No. 6.
"Which is why we came to you. You comprehend the gravity. This assault exposes potential vulnerabilities in our technology. It could imperil the success of the Human Instrumentality Project. We need a full investigation. Do you understand?"
"Yes."
Kaji nodded solemnly.
"But I'll need time. The implications are vast, and the phenomenon… unprecedented."
"Very well, Kaji Ryoji. We trust you. Don't disappoint us."
The holographic figures faded. Kaji remained alone before the screens.
Half a breath later, he exhaled deeply.
It seems I'm about to get busy.
