The weather was beautiful today. Mammon leisurely basked in the sun in the backyard, listening to music, and enjoying grapes that Caitlin had peeled and fed to him.
More than a week had passed since the great battle in Lumiose City. With the Kalos incident resolved, Rosa and the others had played in Kalos for a few days before returning to Unova.
As for Lysandre and the others, Mammon hadn't met them yet; he planned to let them stew for a few more days.
So Mammon hadn't had much to do recently. During the day, he occasionally played with Caitlin and the others, and at night, he played with Diantha or Alexa.
Then, a phone call came in.
"Baraz? What's wrong?"
Mammon answered the phone, smiling.
"Mammon, something happened." Baraz's tone was heavy.
"Don't rush, tell me." Mammon raised an eyebrow.
"It's not clear over the phone. Are you available? If so, please come to Genesis Valley."
"Alright, wait a moment."
Mammon licked his lips. He probably understood the situation. For Baraz to be so worried, it could only mean there was a problem with the prison bottle.
"The legend... is about to begin, huh?"
After hanging up the phone, Mammon's lips slowly curved into a smile.
"Did something unexpected happen in Genesis Valley?" Caitlin hadn't heard clearly.
"Yes, there seems to be a problem, but it's just as well."
Mammon stood up and stretched with a big yawn.
"Caitlin, I'm taking you to enjoy a carnival between legends."
"That's a grand scene that's hard to come by in a thousand years~"
...
Genesis Valley.
As the spatial golden ring opened, Mammon was the first to step out. What greeted his eyes were Baraz and Meray, the siblings, as well as a listless and dispirited Hoopa.
Following Mammon were Caitlin, Platinum, and Serena.
"Mammon, you're here."
"Mamon~"
Hoopa pouted its mouth and slowly flew towards Mammon, its two short arms open, in a posture begging for a hug.
Mammon, of course, caught this little demon god and patted Hoopa's back.
"I'm here, it's alright, it's alright." Mammon comforted him.
"Also, my name is Mammon, not Mamon."
Afterward, Mammon didn't forget to correct Hoopa.
"Mm-hmm~ I know, Mamon~ That thing is so scary, it scared Hoopa to death."
Hoopa nodded repeatedly.
Mammon: "..."
Seeing this, even Baraz and Meray, despite their heavy hearts, couldn't help but chuckle, and the atmosphere lightened considerably.
Serena, standing beside Platinum, looked at Hoopa with great curiosity.
She had originally been training and battling with Platinum when Mammon suddenly called them to a halt, saying he was taking them to see a grand spectacle rarely seen in a lifetime.
She hadn't seen the grand spectacle yet, but this Pokémon's ability was already enough to shock her.
Passing through a golden ring, and arriving in another place?
"Baraz, what exactly happened? Is someone trying to target Hoopa?"
Mammon didn't waste any words and asked Baraz.
"Not so, but..." Baraz shook his head, his brows tightly furrowed.
"Mammon, I mentioned to you before that I wanted to help Hoopa get its power back."
"Yes, I remember." Mammon nodded.
"So these past two days, I've been searching for the prison bottle that my great-grandfather used to seal Hoopa's power, and today I found it."
"But what's strange is that after Hoopa regained its power, it fell into a very peculiar state, and its mind seemed to be affected."
Baraz said in a deep voice.
"Really?" Mammon feigned a surprised expression and looked at Hoopa.
"Mm-hmm, after the power came back, all Hoopa saw was darkness, and it was so scary, like another Hoopa was watching Hoopa."
Hoopa pouted and shrunk its neck, saying.
"And most importantly, I actually have no memory of obtaining the prison bottle, but Meray and Hoopa said that I rode Braviary back at the time, and as soon as I returned, I opened the prison bottle!"
Baraz added another crucial piece of information, his tone very solemn.
"I suspect..."
"The thing inside the prison bottle, it has a self-awareness, and it can control anyone who comes into contact with the prison bottle."
Mammon said thoughtfully.
"Exactly."
Baraz nodded.
"But can a mere power also generate self-awareness?" Platinum was very shocked. Is there such a thing?
"In this world, nothing is impossible. Besides, the fact that Hoopa's power could be stripped and sealed separately is already very bizarre."
"Being sealed for a hundred years, and then a substantial resentful consciousness being generated due to the strong resentment from being sealed, is not entirely impossible."
Mammon looked at Hoopa. This little demon god was now wrinkling its small face, seemingly unable to comprehend.
How could its own power be so awesome?
"So the key question now is, what exactly does that resentful consciousness want to do?"
"Hoopa, what do you think?"
Mammon asked Hoopa, as Hoopa had already had 'personal' contact with it.
Although Baraz was also controlled by Evil Hoopa, he had no memory of it at all.
"I... I don't know, it seems to want Hoopa to disappear..."
Hoopa was very wronged, truly incomparably wronged.
Damn it, its own power wants it to disappear. Who can it complain to?
It's like the world has turned upside down.
But the problem is, Hoopa felt this was completely inexplicable. Had it done something wrong?
Okay, Evil Hoopa was sealed in the prison bottle for a hundred years, but the key is that Hoopa didn't not want to reclaim this power.
It simply didn't know where to find it. It's now powerless, besides the golden ring, it's uncertain if it can even defeat a Raticate.
"A classic plot of a clone wanting to replace the original body." Mammon concluded.
"Or perhaps, it needs Hoopa's original body, after all, it's just a power, and it needs a body to fully appear in this world."
Although in the movie, Evil Hoopa did indeed condense a materialized body purely by relying on energy.
But Mammon had reason to suspect that this materialization couldn't be maintained for long, otherwise, why would Evil Hoopa be so persistent in pursuing Hoopa?
"So what do we do now? Mammon, the prison bottle has already been taken out, and now anyone who touches it will have their mind affected."
Meray was anxious.
the prison bottle was still lying on the nearby grass, because Baraz and his sister didn't dare to touch it, fearing they would be controlled by the resentment within.
But they couldn't just leave it alone, because whether it was a human or a Pokémon, as long as they touched the prison bottle, they would be controlled by the Evil Hoopa inside the prison bottle.
At that time, it could still control other creatures to escape from the prison bottle.
"There are two plans."
Mammon thought for a moment.
"First, bury the prison bottle completely in a deserted place without physical contact, but there's a hidden danger."
"After all, we're not sure if this power might escape on its own in the future, or if Pokémon living underground might come into contact with the prison bottle."
Mammon continued.
Hearing this, Baraz frowned. This method, to be honest, wasn't very good. As Mammon said, the hidden danger was significant.
"Second, release this power, and I'll confront it to figure out what it wants. If defeating it can make this resentment disappear, that would be for the best."
"If that still doesn't work, then let Hoopa itself communicate with this power. The one who tied the knot must untie it. Hoopa, after all, that's your power. Whether you can reclaim it, I think that's the key point."
Mammon looked at Hoopa.
"What do you think?"
"Hoopa wants to choose the second one!" Hoopa didn't hesitate much at all.
Its eyes were incredibly resolute at this moment.
"That's Hoopa's power! That's Hoopa's stuff!! It actually wants to eliminate Hoopa? It's rebelling against the heavens!"
Hoopa waved its small fists indignantly, feeling that this power was truly perverse and audacious.
Seeing Hoopa like this, everyone present couldn't help but smile.
"And with Mammon helping me, Hoopa isn't afraid of that thing at all!"
This was Hoopa's most confident moment, because it felt that even its full-power self probably wouldn't be Mammon's opponent.
Let alone a mere resentment?
After all, Mammon had so many legends on him; they weren't just for show!
"This is the best method. Then I'll have to trouble you, Mammon."
Baraz also strongly agreed. If he had to choose between these two methods, he would definitely choose the second one.
Because the first plan might be peaceful for a short time, but the hidden dangers were simply too great.
"You're welcome. We're all friends, and besides, I really like this little guy Hoopa."
Mammon rubbed Hoopa's small head.
"Mammon~!" Hoopa was moved to tears.
"It's Mammon, not Mammon." Mammon habitually corrected him. Was this Hoopa's Lickitung really incurable?
Hoopa playfully stuck out its tongue.
"Then let's find a secluded place to start."
Mammon threw out Reshiram's Poké Ball.
The pure and flawless Dragon of Truth landed in front of everyone, its head held high with a noble air.
"Ah~ Reshiram, Reshiram, do you still remember me?"
Hoopa's eyes lit up, and it immediately flew in front of Reshiram, asking expectantly.
Reshiram's azure dragon eyes lowered, gazing at Hoopa.
"Hoopa?"
Reshiram's neutral, dignified telepathy sounded.
It seemed unsure, but the aura was indeed familiar. However, why had it become so small, and so... weak?
Reshiram's dragon eyes narrowed slightly. Hoopa had indeed become weaker.
"Yes, Reshiram~ It's been a hundred years! Have you missed me... Waaah! What are you doing, Reshiram!"
Hoopa hadn't even finished speaking when it quickly covered its backside and fled for its life.
Yes, because Reshiram had sprayed a burst of fire at it.
Hoopa was very displeased, hiding behind Mammon and glaring angrily at the Dragon of Truth.
Seeing Hoopa scatter in fear from its fire, Reshiram felt a sense of satisfaction throughout its entire body.
So you have your day too?!
"Uh..."
Seeing Reshiram breathe fire at Hoopa, Platinum and the others were somewhat surprised.
"Mammon! Your Reshiram is bullying me!" Hoopa was very wronged.
It had been so enthusiastic about catching up with Reshiram.
"Have you forgotten what you did back then?" Mammon couldn't help but laugh.
Hoopa gave an embarrassed smile. Damn it! If only my power hadn't betrayed me, how dare a mere White Dragon breathe fire on me?!
I'll endure this for now, but I've noted this grudge!
When Hoopa regains my power, White Dragon, you just wait!
