Alteng's face darkened instantly. His body seemed too tense, and in the blink of an eye, he couldn't take it anymore and released a torrent of magical energy that shook the air. It was like watching a predator wake up with a start.
—Get back! —he roared, and in a flash, he vanished from my side to materialize right in front of the chaos.
I couldn't even feel him the moment he appeared out of nowhere. He was strong, there was no doubt about that, but it wasn't as if I was completely defenceless. I glanced sideways at the energy that escaped behind him in a trail.
Just before moving, he had given me one last reminder with his gaze, and although it was intense due to the natural pressure he constantly exerted, it didn't last long, and he uttered a few last words before they destroyed his laboratory. His tone, which I could barely hear amid the din, said:
—Think about it carefully and give me your answer later, Daven…
And then he was gone, swallowed by the smoke and screams.
