Chapter 21 - Investigation into the attack

As Emily and Adam stepped out of the cafe, they spotted Juro rushing through the forest at high speed. Feeling something amiss, Adam told Emily to grab onto him. He activated his black armor core to transform, with Emily hanging on, and dove into the shadow realm, appearing beside Juro, both moving at incredible speed.

"Juro, what is happening?" Adam asked.

"A creature attacked a human, killing the victim in the city. Brad and the others are on their way!" Juro explained.

"Creatures? You mean invaders from the portal?" Adam asked for specifics.

"We're unsure. Kwaru informed us about the imbalance in the human world causing widespread panic. He's unable to erase memories of the humans from sightings since many of them are gathering and surrounding the location," Juro explained.

"Point towards the direction, and I'll bring us faster," Adam said.

As Juro pointed, Adam grabbed him under his arm and dove into the shadow realm, appearing at the city center. Juro then directed Adam to the exact alleyway of the attack, and Adam teleported them there from the shadow realm.

As they all stood overlooking the incident, many humans were taking photos and videos of a woman bitten in half, her body parts lying on the floor. Adam, using his mana vision, noticed the mana residue, but it didn't match any of the creatures in the Spiritual Realm.

"What should we do?" Adam asked.

"Watch me!" Juro replied. He appeared among the crowds as a policeman, informing them that it was a crime scene.

Suddenly, the crowd became influenced, believing his lie. He told them that a stabbing murder had occurred and everyone needed to delete their photos and videos or face prosecution. As the humans, in a trance, took out their phones and deleted all the images and videos, Juro used his tengu powers to influence and create an illusion.

As people were dismissed, they were suddenly unaware of what had just happened. The illusions now covered the area of the body, making it look like a blocked pathway.

"Wow, his powers are useful in keeping the creatures hidden," Adam said.

"This is a norm. Most creatures are free to use their ability in human worlds because of creatures like him and our elders like Kwaru," Emily stated. "That is why the creatures are able to remain among humans without being detected much. However, there are still some who manage to wiggle through and post it online. Those are quickly taken down or labeled as conspiracy by our creatures working together to debunk or give fake explanations before they remove it from the person itself," Emily stated.

"So what happens now? The body?" Adam asked.

"Investigation. Who did this? If we capture the culprit, we send them to the elders, as there are rules not to interfere with the human world," Emily explained.

"So the aftermath for the person and the family?" Adam asked.

"We have creatures in all areas able to cover it up. They will tell the family of the deceased and make up stories of their death. Some of the humans have made contracts with the creatures, and all of these humans will follow orders from us," Emily delved deeper into her explanation.

"Isn't that interference in the human world?" Adam asked.

"Yes, it is. However, it's indirect interference. As contracts between humans and people are subject to the rules, the human acts upon it instead of us. A loophole in the rules," Emily replied.

"Rules? Set by whom?" Adam asked.

"Set by the Solomon King. The above imposed all creatures to obey the Solomon King, no matter who they are, good or bad. So creatures like us uphold the rules to this day. The bad ones find loopholes and control humans by contract. Those that appear in front of humans are trying to feed off their negative energy, which is one source of mana. People call them ghosts, but they are actually creatures appearing as ghosts," Emily continued.

"Why make contracts with humans? That is wrong and subjects humans to slavery," Adam retorted.

"Contracts are tools. It's the same as humans having good contracts and bad contracts. Humans in the past have made contracts with creatures for their own selfish greed. The evil ones take advantage and make them do despicable acts to feed off the human soul to become their slaves after they die," Emily explained.

"They teach and trick humans to make them as gods to receive mana and feed off their energy. However, most of the bad ones misled humans to gain an army of followers, hence they get stronger. As many humans sign contracts with these creatures, their souls are unable to move on and are trapped to follow the creature's orders, slowly becoming creatures and demons themselves. The more tainted their soul is during their living, the stronger they become under the one they make contracts with," Emily exposed everything.

"Those of us who are in need of mana will help the humans in return for receiving their energy when they pray to the creatures. Which is why mana points are available throughout the human world," Emily said.

"So the humans are taken care of?" Brad interrupted.

"Juro has covered up the incident; he is now investigating the body," Emily said.

"By the way, I have sent the list. I'll be busy from now on with this investigation," Brad said to Adam.

"Wait, I can trace the mana. I can help," Adam said.

"Alright, Emily, I will work with Adam. Can you help to buy the things for the list?" Brad said.

"No, Adam is coming with me. You have other creatures that can handle this," Emily said.

"That's true, however. It would be good for Adam to learn the process of it," Brad replied.

"I'm not doing the list. If Adam is going, I'm going with him," Emily insisted.

"We come as a unit, so yeah. Emily will be with me throughout. Don't worry about the list. I'll get it done with Emily before next week starts," Adam said.

They all went down to the body. "Juro, how was she killed and by which creature?" Brad asked.

"It's werewolves. However, it shows subtle differences in their bite marks. As you can see, the fangs bitten are of different species of wolves. So this could only mean two things: a lone wolf just awakened or one from the invaders hiding in this world. You know werewolves wouldn't leave its remains if in a pack. So this individual is working on their own," Juro explained.
