Bas drove carefully on the two-lane road cursing all the impatient idiots who passed him or honked their horns.
He breathed a sigh of relief when they hit the open highway. Now it was a straight shot to Ash City.
He'd taken a leave of absence from the bodyguard agency he and his brothers owned and operated. But he still had contacts and he'd turned on his cell phone to get the info he needed.
Also, he'd changed his mind about showing up at Amethyst's veterinary clinic. The minute she saw that baby and heard the story, she'd put out a family alert--and he'd find himself ass-deep in bossy bear shifters.
Did Kaylie's mom think she was dead? The thought of Kaylie coming to harm squeezed his insides so tight he couldn't breathe. He couldn't imagine the kind of agony her mother suffered as she wondered about the fate of her child.
